I just bought UNSEEN a Beosystem 5500 with various Celestion, Mission and Teac Speakers
I do NOT know if ANYTHING works, I'm not going to lie, I did buy it to flip, however I saw a random youtube video of a Beocord 5500 and it looked so overly complicated that I think I've fallen in love with this thing.
This is the only picture I saw and I have yet to pick it up, I was going to go today, but can't collect it until tomorrow.
From the picture I can see it comes with the Master Control Panel, the other remote. 6? MCL2's and it looks to be complete?
At the minute I own no physical music, everything is done through Spotify and my Ipad/headphones. But if i'm going to buy a stereo, it might aswell be one that will probably break every few days, but looks fabulous?
The price IMO was ridiculously cheap.
IF everything works, how much is it worth?
If everything is broken, how much is it all worth?
Thanks Adam
Here is the status of your system without having seen it ;)
1. Beomaster will probably work, there will be a worn out mute relay for the speaker 1 sockets. These are the speakers connected to the stereo in the same room.
2. The cd may have problems reading cd's, but that is a quick fix, search for C2103 threads here, it is the number of the capacitor that mostly is dead, I suggest changing the other caps on the servo board as well. It is easy.
3. The beocord will probably have worn/broken belts, that causes it to not wind/play tape, and there might even be a tape stuck :)
4. The record player can also suffer a worn platter belt that causes the arm to move slowly, and other things. There is also possibility for a broken plastic tap where the wire is connected to the tonearm assembly. Easy fix with a bolt and washer through the hole. If totally broken, the wire can be tangled in the gear wheels and need looping correct again. The MMC pickup probably is worn down to, it need restauration by a qualified guy.
5. The small CX50 speakers is in need of new suspension for the woofers. maybe also the RL speakers, but that depend on which version they are.
6. The MCL's will 99% work without problems, they hardly fail.
7. And then the rest "non standard" issues ;) Which there might be none, but expect all the above.
The parts are not that expensive, but you need to know what you are doing. Please do searches on the forum before just asking, all of the above have been discussed many many times in threads here.

Thanks Jacob, I'm saving up for a house deposit so im not supposed to be buying anything, which means this will have to go straight into storage so I don't get shouted at. :DWhen I collect it tomorrow ill try and get some pictures and if I have time ill try and plug it all in.
I collected today, but I haven't plugged anything in.
Now take this with a pinch of salt, this is what I was told and it sounds plausible. It all came out of a millionaires home, he mainly used the Beogram with the RL60 2's... he ran a link to the kitchen with the cx50's and the other speakers ran elsewhere.
It appears to be in a great condition, but it could do with a clean. I took the covers off the cx50's and one has a slight hole in the foam.
The RL60's are a hell of a lot bigger than I thought and as the beosystem was all wired together, it weighed about 4000000 kgs. :D
Sadly, I cannot even begin to use this as it's gone straight into storage, but in a few months I will be back with a hopefully 'perfectly working' Beosystem 5500.
Well I think you did very well - that's a great system and well worth time and effort to restore - plus what a fantastic system to put in a new house and have music everywhere - is all you would need is something to stream to A.Tape2 (airport express or similar) and you would have a system that can play anything. If it were me I would keep it and then get the bits fixed slowly, if they are broken, that way you could start collecting records, cd;s or tapes as each component is fixed.
Anyway, wish you well with it and I am sure you will get a lot of pleasure out of it.
