Just found a solution that bring Spotify back to our BS5, even if it´s not fully integrated but much better than a Crome Cast add on
A new app (AirSpot) have been released for Android that work as a bridge and make Spotify connect available to DLNA units.I´ve downloaded it and have it running on my phone and I can now stream Spotify to the BS5 from all Spotify clients as normal spotify connect (iOS, Computer and Android) at home.
- The stream automatically turn on the BS5 if it´s turned off and starts the stream (A.Aux), or switch to the A.AUX source if you listen to something else.
- It present cover arts and artis information exactly as before
- It´s possible to configure what streaming quality it should stream to the DLNA rendderer.
- Currently it´s only possible to paus/play via the remote or on the BS5 itself, this is probably a thing that easily can be fixed since it´s usually possible to switch track on DLNA sources.
Will try to install this software on one a Android TV and have it running in the background constantly so it just work...Would have been great if the BEO6 now could have presented DLNA cover arts then could we finally have had the Spotify information available on BEO6.A much more glad BS5 user :)Stefan

Just tested it and its working.
The app acts as a Spotify Connect receiver on your network (using librespot) and forwards audio + metadata via DLNA or AirPlay.
Works even for iOS users. Take an Android device, install the app and just forget about it. All DLNA devices on your network will be visible as a Spotify connect device directly from within the Spotify app.
BeoMotion: Works even for iOS users. Take an Android device, install the app and just forget about it. All DLNA devices on your network will be visible as a Spotify connect device directly from within the Spotify app.
Duels:So the app still needs to sit on an android device. There is no app for iOS devices.
Yes, thats correct but you don't have to touch that device as soon as the app is installed. You can use the official Spotify app on iOS for streaming then. There are also Android emulators for Windows. Could be possible to install that app directly on BM5 using such an emulator.
Interesting, yes!

There is a tv - and there is a BV
it is an interesting solution and certainly seems to give better/tighter integration between the BS5 and Spotify. Personally I will see how I get on with my new Chromecast first. This solution would mean I have to buy an android device specially.
Don't want to spoil your day, but don't think you're going to be impressed with Beringer 222 !
Wonder what kind of unit could run the Androin App, as a client ? Must be something cheaper the a phone.

To be honest I have been pleasantly surprised by this device so far once I discovered the HDR setting for the Chromecast. It sounds comparable to me to the sound I got from Spotify natively on the BS5. I have only had it for one evening's listening though.
This weekend I will compared ripped CDs with Spotify versions of the same and see how they stack up. When I did this previously with the integrated Spotify vs CDs, myself and friends could never really express a preference for one or the other overall. In many cases we would prefer one version to the other but sometimes that was Spotify, sometimes CDs.

I installed it on an old Android phone (running version 4.0.4) from I think 2011 or so that was laying around. Removed the battery and connected it to a free USB port of BM5. Does work like a charm currently.
I hope we not end up in the same situation that this service stops due to that it using librespot client - since this client relies on libspotify that is the SDK that BeoSound 5 was build up around. Anyway interesting to see that this client that relies on the same SDK still work while the BS5 have stopped working...Stefan

librespot is definitively not the same as the depreciated libspotify nor does it depend or rely on it. The developer of librespot reverse-engineered the current Spotify API including the Connect feature and implemented it in a program written in rust language. Spotify already blocked librespot on their server side several times. Recently a maintainer of librespot was in contact with Spotify about this and they found something like a compromise. They agreed about a special application identifier so that Spotify can better monitor the use of librespot. So for the moment they tolerate it. Let's see how long...
If that is using the DLNA protocol (renderer function), we might be able to use it respectively use a similar solution with a Playmaker or with the Essence/A9 first gen.
OK that is good if that is true. Are you facing any problem with AirSpot app since from yesterday it totally lock my spotify client when I connect connect to a receiver via the AirSpot app. It worked without a problem earlier but not since yesterday at least for me.
That would probably work as well since they are all DLNA renderer.
I assume you are not using any Apple product since AirPlay is already available on these B&O products and you can chose AirPlay units in the Spotify App on a Apple product.
Stefan
Ideally you would want some some kind of android emulator running in the background on BM5's Windows XP. That way you didn't need an external unit running the program.
AirSpot has been removed from Google-Play in February,
It's successor is called "HiFy" and available on Google-Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.hify.trial
HiFy makes all your AirPlay- or DLNA-enabled receivers compatible with Spotify Premium and would allow to enjoy Spotify on the BS5!
Thanks for the information.
