Hi
i want to get an S8 with connection hub for my Samsung tv but multiple audio would be nice to compliment other devices eg a6. Would it connect to the essence mk2 and what cable / setup would work? I’d like to connect the tv to optical on the hub.
has anyone done this before? I was thinking of the rj45 I put but not too sure this would work and if there’s a cable for the dual P1&P2 outputs on essence
thanks for your help
Hi Frosty05,
Yes, this can certainly be done, however if you add an Essence then the S8 Hub could potentially be replaced with a less costly optical to audio converter as the Essence will be able to manage the speaker volume when listening to the TV.
If you decide to stay with the S8 Hub and add the Essence, you just need one cable to connect the RJ45 output of the Hub into the Line In sockets of the Essence via this cable for stereo sound:-

By connecting in this way (TV -> Hub -> Essence -> Speakers) you are now able to control the volume of any music source via the B&O app and to send any music source (including the TV sound) to any B&O device that supports multi-room audio.
If you would like details of alternative optical to audio converters to reduce the cost of connecting to the Essence, please drop me a line via my sponsor link at the foot of the page and I will be happy to help.
Kind regards, Steve.

That’s a nice idea I like that. Will come direct for next steps

If I'm following this conversation correctly, there might problem with this approach. First, I assume you're going TV -> optical -> Hub -> PowerLink to AUX -> Essence -> PowerLink -> Speakers. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure the AUX input to the Essence can only be distributed via multi-room if there is a delay. Once you turn off the delay (to sync with the TV), the AUX input can no longer be distributed.
I truly hope I'm wrong because I'm looking for a similar solution - connect BeoLabs to non Beo TV and be able to distribute the TV sound via NL (and listen to other sources on the TV speakers).

Hi Stan,
Thanks for reminding me about the delay issue within the Essence. This can be resolved via one of the two methods below:-
1) If you don't need multi-room operation, please use the BeoSetup app to reduce the Network Delay setting of the Essence to zero. This will put the TV sound and picture exactly in sync.
2) For multi-room sound, please reduce the Network Delay setting to around 50-60mS (ie. 0.05-0.06 seconds). This gives a very small delay that shouldn't normally be audible, whilst giving a little bit of processing time for the network to distribute the sound between rooms. You may need to tweak this setting a little, depending on the layout and coverage of your B&O network. For best results, I always recommend a wired link between devices where possible (although I would say that, being a cable addict!)
I think the beosound core has just changed my idea on this
