Dear forum

This is my setup. I want to play the sound from the Beosound Essence in my old masterlink setup. (please click the picture, to see it full screen)

Right now the Beovision 8 and the Beolink passive, only turns on for a couple of seconds (without sound) and then turns off again to standby. But when my masterlink are in standby, I can turn off the Essence with my beo4 in the link rooms, by holding the standby bottom down.

What can I do to make it work?

1) Can I buy a link eye to the Beolink Converter and the use it on the beolink passive with the powerlink? And can I from there use the masterlink to the other link rooms? Will that work?

2) Buy a ML power box, that is quite expensive, when I also need more cables.

And delay box, I hope I don't have to use such one? When are delay boxes used?

I like number one best, that is the cheapest one. :)

Some guesses:

1)  I don't think you need a ML power box because the BV8 is a "master" on your ML network.

2)  You can drive a passive from the Essence via PL (and the IR eye would help).  However, the passive either works via PL or ML, not both so I don't think this helps you.  You still need to get ML working from the BLC to listen in the rest of your rooms.

3)  You should be able to configure the BLC as either an "audio master" or "source center".  These settings allow the BLC to behave as a BS3000 (for example) or BS5 (if "source center").  This means it can respond to the ML commands (from your BV8 or Passive responding to Beo4) that would normally go to an audio master or bs5.  I had my BLC setup as "A.slave" because I already had an A.Master, V.Master and Source center in my ML network.  This allowed me to pass audio from the ML to my Essence.  I'm less sure about how things work in the other direction.  You need to map which audio functions (Radio, CD, N.Music, N.Radio, etc.) map to which Essence sources (note that you would not be able to distribute Spotify from the Essence to your ML network in this configuration because of licensing restrictions).

4)  The green light then off most likely means that the control signals are working correctly, but the audio is not getting to the ML.  That is, it gets a command to listen for audio so it turns on, but never receives audio so it turns off... so either the BLC is not pushing the audio into the ML network, or there is a cable problem.

5)  Can you listen to your TV in link rooms?  This would validate the integrity of your ML cables (except for the one that runs to the BLC).   Is your junction box the one where you plug in ML connectors, or where you splice the wires?  If it is the wire splice box, you could have a bad connection.

6)  It might be helpful to post the 2 configuration screens from the BLC setup screen - one where you map the ML to NL and the other that maps NL to ML (iirc - my BLC is broken at the moment).

Did you connect the Essence and the BLC to your Network (router)?

all should be working if the settings in the Essence and the BLC are correct

Thank you for your response

Maybe the problem here is the option my BV8 are on? I don't know what the setting are right now. What option schould it be to be a video master?

Please see my other comments below:

Stan:

Some guesses:

1)  I don't think you need a ML power box because the BV8 is a "master" on your ML network.

Great :)

2)  You can drive a passive from the Essence via PL (and the IR eye would help).  However, the passive either works via PL or ML, not both so I don't think this helps you.  You still need to get ML working from the BLC to listen in the rest of your rooms.

All right, that option will not make sense for me then.

Thank you for a good explanation. I am busy in the weekend, but monday or tuesday I will post pictures of my setup.
I take note on the spotify, let's see what happens when I can use tune in in multiroom. If I choose Deezer instead, will that be able in multiroom because it is integreted in the beosound essence?

4)  The green light then off most likely means that the control signals are working correctly, but the audio is not getting to the ML.  That is, it gets a command to listen for audio so it turns on, but never receives audio so it turns off... so either the BLC is not pushing the audio into the ML network, or there is a cable problem.

I have just bought beosound essence that replaced my old Beosound 5. With the BS5 all worked great, so no problem with the cables. But I never could listen to the tv-sound from my BV8. More in number 5 below.

5)  Can you listen to your TV in link rooms?  This would validate the integrity of your ML cables (except for the one that runs to the BLC).   Is your junction box the one where you plug in ML connectors, or where you splice the wires?  If it is the wire splice box, you could have a bad connection.

As mentioned under number 4, my BS5 worked just fine in all link rooms. But never the tv. Why?? Was it because of the V.opt? I have a digital box connected at the hdmi - is that why? Can I only play sound from the analogue tv-tuner? Does not make sense.
Will I be able to play the tv-sound right now only in link rooms? So I by my beolink passive on the beo4 pushes list > chooses AV > go > tv ?

6)  It might be helpful to post the 2 configuration screens from the BLC setup screen - one where you map the ML to NL and the other that maps NL to ML (iirc - my BLC is broken at the moment).

I will do that monday or tuesday - I am busy in the weekend.

1)  Tune-in is definitely multi-room capable.  I'd use Tune-In for testing, and once that is working try Deezer.  I believe Deezer is multi-room capable, but cannot test it at the moment because my BLC got taken out by lightening.

2) You should be able to listen to your TV in your link rooms right now.  You may have to turn on the TV first, but then simply selecting "TV" on your Beo4 should allow you to listen to the TV audio in your other rooms.   At least this is how it works for me.  Caution:  I have/had a US-spec BV8 which may be different than EUR models (IIRC, the US model included capabilities that were options in other markets, but I never much paid attention since I have no choice on the model).  I saw a recent thread about someone having problems with distributing digital vs. analog audio, but I don't understand because my BV8 only gets digital audio (from a HDMI), and there's no issue distributing it.  If you can't listen to the TV in your other rooms, then it is most likely an option setting, but could also be a difference the specifications of a US vs. EUR BV8.  I think the BV8 should be option 1 or 2.  If your BV8 is in option 6, this could explain why there is no "master" signal on the ML network (the reason for the master power box).  Here's link for instructions on how to option program https://www.beoworld.org/beotech/mlsetups.htm

3)  Have a good weekend.  Smile

Status right now.

1) I can still not listen to sound from my BV8 in the link rooms. First when I pushed tv on beo4 in the link room the beolink passive turned on and off again. Then I could not turn it on again. Then I went to my BV8 and changed the V.OPT to 2. Back in the linkroom when I now pushes tv - it turns on and stay on. The same for DTV button.

2) and after I chanced the V.OPT on the BV8, the sound for the Essence still don't get to the link rooms. I will post screen shots. I really hope you can help me. :)

My Beolink Converter ML/NL are bought second hand - are you sure I don't need to reset it? As you see on the last picture, there are many devices I don't know what is and that not are in my setup.

Do a factory reset and build up the settings again! Seems like your BLC is used in a store.

for 99% sure this will solve your problems

You didn't factory reset it if all the devices you do not own reappear!

Nothing works - here goes my screens right now. When I push radio in the link room on beo4 it turns on without sound. I can hold the standby botton at beo4 and all turns to standby, also the BS Essence.

What to do now??? I am very confused.

The 8th picture still shows a lot of devices! The picture you showed before you only had only some?

If these devices are not yours you must get rid of them.

A factory reset is required or delete all these devices.

The BLC won't work properly this way! Do the reset!

How do I do the factory reset? I have tried push the setup botton and let the red led flash 5-6 times without any luck.

only with luck it will not work!

See: http://archivedforum2.beoworld.org/forums/p/26625/213597.aspx#213597

Unplug the LAN and ML (just to be sure). Push the button in the small hole. Release the pin after 5 red flashes; push the button again within 3 s.

Now it works. YES YES YES!

I was becouse there was a Beosound Essence and a Beosound Essence MK2 in the setup. My idea was that I always should choose the MK2, but I have named my Beosound Essence as "friendly name" Beosound Essence. But I saw that the serial numbers was identical, and choosed the one only called Beosound Essence.

Hope it also makes sense for you!

Thank you very much for your help. :) :) :)
