Hi All
Ive recently purchased a beosound moment to replace my beosound 5 :(
I must say it has been plagued with software problems.
I'm presently re ripping all my CDS as the transfer from WMA to FLAC wasn't terribly successful! Im using dbpoweramp in FLAC Lossless. All files are transferred to a NAS drive and the moment reads from the NAS.
Even though I have correct artwork and tags going to the NAS, at times the album artwork changes on the moment.. e.g. Boney M Best of, sometimes displays the front album cover, some times the back cover! Ellie Goulding Delerium album displays artwork for 'Guns and Horses'.. Some albums have no artwork at all, even though I've put the artwork in the file. All the artwork shows correctly in the Bang and Olufsen App, but doesn't appear on the moment.
This is just one of many problems I'm having with this product, so much so I'm tempted to give it back and start using an i pad!
Can anyone provide any helpful advice re fixing the artwork issue please?
Best wishes
David

It seems awfully far along in the product life cycle to still be having these kinds of issues.

I'm afraid I'm recovering from the BeoVirus.
That is a 'common' DLNA issue.
The more you want to turn the BS Moment into a DLNA player, the worse it gets.
MM
There is a tv - and there is a BV
Millemissen:The more you want to turn the BS Moment into a DLNA player, the worse it gets.
I guess that's the rub isn't it. The Moment was supposed to consolidate everyone's music (streaming and local sources) into one unifying device. If you take DLNA out of the equation, then the Moment is a glorified subscription service streamer. That may fit some people's use cases, but what of those who actually want a B&O device to appropriately handle their local stored music? There's a gap here that B&O have created themselves upon discontinuation of the Beosound / Beomaster 5.
Cleaning up a music collection for the BeoSound 5 truly was a labor of love. The benefit of seeing your cover art on the large BeoSound 5 screen had the instant downside of showing the flaws in one's music collection housekeeping. I had never before realized how sloppy I had been over many years of not properly tagging my collection and not using decent resolution cover art. I'm hoping that the music collection that has been carefully cleaned up for the BeoMaster 5 will fair well on the Moment when using the BeoMaster 5 as the server.
beojeff:...I'm hoping that the music collection that has been carefully cleaned up for the BeoMaster 5 will fair well on the Moment when using the BeoMaster 5 as the server.
Carolpa:In my opinion it has also a lot to do with the infrastructure and the content of the different Moment users.
Beroli:.MM wrote years ago, that the device is not meant to be for DLNA-collections - streaming is the future. I was so angry about that statement. Nowadays I have to say, he was right, this device is not meant for customers like me. It is working flawless with tunein and deezer - but it is terrible when it comes to large DLNA-collections. Some owners are satisfied with the current DLNA capabilities. For some of them it seems ok to rearrange, retag, rename a previously perfect working collection again, and again , and again - and they still praise B&O.
I must admit, that I was quite reliveved when reading this comment from you.
I certainly remember the hard discussions we had at that time.
Thruth is, I never saw the BS Moment as anything but a 'music machine' based on Deezer and TuneIN.
A very good solution for those (and there are a lot of them), who just want to be entertained in an easy way.
This was the reason, why I personally never got into the Moment - I am like you someone, who wants to have control over my playback,
and I have a rather large collection of files on my NAS (which, by the way I don't use much these days).
At that time I wanted a solution for these files, a DLNA-based solution. I already used/had used different 3rd party apps,
and settled with the Essence (2nd gen) in my B&O setup to gain more control over the playback.
(i also used/use the renderer in my BV for playback from my NAS-based stuff, which works well imo.)
OK - I had/have to push a couple more buttons on the remote and the iPad, but that is something that I can live with.....
.....as long as I am the one in control and not the 'machine'.
Over time I watched your troubles trying to get the Moment right (for you) and saw, that you did not succeeed.
(I have always admired your skills and your persistence, but maybe you now should make piece with the device, and use it for what it is.)
Somehow funny is that the Moment team in Struer also seemed to try to get it to work - hoping to turn the device into a more
DLNA-friendly device than at the beginning.
IMO they should have let it the way it was - a jukebox, a machine with algorithm-based playback from a music streaming service and netradio.
A clever one...for those, who need that.
That leaves us, you and me and others wanting to benefit from a large offline collection standing in the rain.
Maybe the should have worked on a DLNA solution/device instead of wasting too much time on the BS Moment?
Hiort:I must say that Moment serve my collection on my NAS well. No empty artist tiles. Those not found on Gracenote, Moment use a cover from that artists collection. That is fine with me. Maybe it's because my collection is relatively small (3100 songs). I'm on the beta track.

Glad to hear that.
For what's worth.
I have a dedicated musicserver for my Moment.
I started to copy a part of my collection to this server, a QNAP TS209 Pro-II with 4TB (Gigabyte network with Twonky software). This copying went with a speed around the 4-10MB/s.
So, copying my complete (unsorted) collection with approximately 800GB of music (35.000 tracks), took almost 3 days.
The harvesting took days and worked just one day. After one working day, the only music remained was the first part with just a few hundred tracks. The Moment kept endlessly harvesting...without success.
I recently upgraded the server with a newer version, the QNAP TS251 with new drives (2x 2T, 4T total).
Copying the same music took only a few hours (3-3.5 hour) with a speed around the 70-80MB/s. The harvesting went a lot faster and still works.
The old server had some issues with playing hd-res music, whereas the new one works flawless. No drop-outs.
So, problems can also be hardware-related. In theory it shouldn't matter, but apparently it does.

Anyone on these forums using a Mac and an iTunes library to serve up music for the Moment? If so, can you share your experiences?

BS Moment, BS Core, BG 4002, BC 4500, BS1, BL18, BL19, BL8000 + RCV1, A6, M5, M3, A1, P6 (tks Botty), H5, TR1
Yup that'll be me. I'm using itunes running on my iMac and Twonky with the moment. I tried with and without Deezer, but the annoying lack of features made me plug deezer back in after a week. The thing that annoys me is I'm subscribing to Apple Music and Deezer.
At the moment the Moment seems to spend most of it's life in harvesting DNLA music mode. I tried at the weekend a few times to update it, after it said new software was available, however it keeps failing. Its network is via a cable as it just didn't want to play content over WIFI for some reason, well it did but spent most of its time buffering.
I might reset it and just let it go again if that a) helps its constant harvesting and b) lets me update the software

mbolo01:You need a DLNA server to serve up music for the Moment and iTunes on a Mac isn't a DLNA server as you know
Yep, thanks for the reminder, that's what I meant. I wanted to know experiences from those who are using iTunes to manage their music (with Twonky to serve it up to the Moment).
Thank you for your response. It seems as though some folks are having issues and others aren't. It is a tall order for B&O to get a device to work eprfectly with all sorts of hardware and software configurations, but I'm glad to hear it is going well for some folks.
I know QNAP has ended the "app" support for Twonky so one has to run it via a virtual server, or something like that since the new QNAP OS has removed Twonky from the app store. How are you running Twonky with iTunes, and does it "see" your created playlists? If so, what file(s) did you have to modify for it to see the playlists?

All in all, benjnz, how would you describe your journey with the Moment? Satisfied? Have you gotten more pleasure out of the Moment than the work and possible frustration it has caused?

QNAP has dropped the OEM version of Twonky, but you can still purchase a Twonky license, download and install the QNAP package on your NAS and enjoy its power. Much more convenient than virtual containers requiring more tech setup, upgrades to new versions are also really effortless, I'm currently running 8.4.1
My iTunes library is stored on the QNAP and Twonky is simply configured to point to it. Twonky is very very fast to integrate any changes in your library compared to QNAP native media manager.
With a special statement in the twonkyserver.ini file you can publish your regular iTunes playlists, not the smart ones, and the Moment can see and play them.
For now, the Moment is the issue for me (2.2 beta user), but once it is back on track, the combination iTunes + QNAP + Twonky + Moment is ideal for my 37k tracks library
Hope it helps
Thanks everyone for the replies.
in short the issue appears to be that the moment is only reading album artwork from grace notes. If artwork isn't in grace notes, which for my collection, probably about 20% of the time it isn't, no artwork is displayed. This is despite the artwork being in jpg format in the album file on the NAS. In other words the moment is not reading the NAS at all for artwork. I have an IT person looking at this but after many many hours.. still no resolution.
Interestingly, artwork also changes and sometimes is there and sometimes it isn't.
David Coyne:the moment is only reading album artwork from grace notes.
mbolo01: In 2.2 the intention is to be able to provide the ARTIST artwork leveraging your own DLNA Photo service
David Coyne:This is despite the artwork being in jpg format in the album file on the NAS.
Hiort:Only in expert mode or?

LOL to say its temperamental would be an understatement. I'd say the thing that gets me is the fact that it's a pain and a half to get the Apple Music integration working, what they could do is just do a hands up, say it's not their thing and create a migration app that matches your iTunes library to that in Deezer and just stick with that to be honest.
It truly is frustrating, from the early days of constant crashes and resets, although with that when it did work the PaternPlay was great. Ever since the last upgrade to the software 2.1 something or other, PatternPlay is about as useless as a Vicar in a Tarts Kitchen and I'll spend this evening removing the DNLA aspect of it and find an online iTunes to Deezer music match website, reset the whole thing and hope PatternPlay grows some balls and does what it says it's supposed to do.
Apart from that everything is more than fine Sal
Yes... the cover art is embedded correctly in the track tag. It really seems there is something wrong re the Moment not reading any cover art from the NAS, only going to the internet for album cover art.
I see mbolo has posted something that may give some clues to where to next
Carolpa:embed the Album cover in the Track tag. This cover will be shown by the Moment
I received my Moment yesterday. After the first harvesting, all 18K songs from my BeoMaster 5 appeared perfectly. With the second harvesting, much of my music just vanished. I left it alone for a few hours, came back, and everything was restored with nothing missing.
I refuse to accept that the Moment is just for streaming. It's been advertised as a way to access both streaming and local content, and we should expect it to serve that purpose. B&O needs to keep working to polish this and work out the bugs. Something that seems obvious is that the harvesting should be limited to late night when we would be asleep and would be unlikely to use it -- such as how the Moment performs automatic software updates.

I'm surprised that there isn't a way to add songs to a play queue from the Moment's interface.
I'm also surprised that B&O didn't use the Beo4/BeoRemote One color buttons to make a random music selection from the general categories of Happy (yellow), Energetic (red), Melancholic (blue), or Relaxed (green). That would have been a nice touch.
