Hello,

Just picked up a Beogram 8002. Bought and installed the excellent cap kit from Dillen. Also purchased a correct belt to drive the tonearm from a fellow in Europe. Cleaned the drive assembly and put it all together. It came to life. However when I press the play button, the sensor only comes out to the edge of the record and the tonearm lowers onto the deck. When I press stop, the assembly returns to it's resting position. When I press play again, the sensor and tonearm cue to their proper position and the tonearm lowers onto the record like it should. If I press stop to cycle it back then press play again, it continues to operate as it should.

It's only the first time I press play that this strange behavior happens. Any ideas what the problem could be.

Looking forward to becoming a contributing member soon.

Thank you!

Sam

The electronics drive the servo motor until a certain amount of opto pulses is counted, then it checks for a record.
If a record is seen (actually if no radial platter streaks are seen), the the carriage is slowed down apporaching the record, then stopped and the tonearm is lovered.
Your deck produces too many opto pulses for the actual carriage position.

Check the solder joints at the edge connectors on the main board.
Check the CPU socket and its solder joints.
Check/clean the opto and the interrupter wings at the end of the threaded shaft.

The opto-coupler is missing some pulses ...replace it.     Google Atlantic Systems in  Mass...  see if they have one on hand...Dillen was on the right track.

OK, Thanks to both of you.

I'll try them in the next few days.
