Hi,

I have a BS5 linked to a BV10-46, all the speakers are connected to my BV.

In my last setup, with a BC2 I could control the soundlevel on my BC2. On the BS5 I dont have this possibility.

Another thing, the A.aux - I have been told using the usb inlet with a external sound card. I have tried this, but it does not work either.. Any clue?

I do not know - I can't comment - perhaps a BS 5/encore owner can

The USB port would be fore attaching additional "memory" sources - a USB stick, a hard drive.

I think you after the line-in.

Here is B&O's website list for Beosound 5 Encore's connections with the USB and line-in highlighted.

Easy access sockets: 1 x Mini jack (for Headphone), 1 x Line-in (for iPod/iPhone or MP3 players), 1 x USB connection (for temporary USB storage), Permanent access:1 x Power Link, 1 x Ethernet 10/100Mb, Wireless (for music server and netradio), 1 x USB connection (for e.g. permanent USB hard disk)

and the Beosound 5's (not as good) connections list:

BeoSound 5: DVI-D, USB and HDMI (for BeoMaster 5 only) BeoMaster 5: Master Link Power Link Ethernet 10/100Mb USB for wireless transmitter receiver Line-out - analogue stereo L/R DVI-I, S-Video, YPbPr, SPDIF, Composite Video

Do you have speakers directly connected to your bm5?

Is your bs5 setup as audiomaster?

My bs5 is in another room than my tv to which the bm5 is connected.

And i can stream directly to bm5 from ie twonky App. I also have a soundcard connected via USB and to the soundcard i have an aiport Express connected, so I can use AirPlay if I want.

The soundlevel can definitely be controlled by the BS5 itself. I have had a similar setup before. Cannot say for sure what I have changed since then since I do not have that functionality today but a good start would probably be to see if your BS5 is set as audio master (I have a BS9000 as AM nowadays and the BS5 as slave).

There shall be some usb interface/soundcard since the usb act as the aux/line in. But I cant find it to work.

All the speakers are connected to the TV.

The BS5 is connected to the tv with the LM cable.

I have set my BS5 as an audiomaster.

Hi Rikard.

Do you have set the option to "0" on BeoSound/ BeoMaster 5?

That`s exactly the most important question....

Doesn`t matter, if your BS5 is audiomaster or not - if audiomaster and your BLs are connected to a videomaster, set it to A.OPT 0.

If no audiomaster you have no option setting choice on BS5. In both cases it should be possible to control the volume via the wheel.

The Bs5 is set as an audio master and a.opt is 0. (the same setting as on the old BC2).

Perhaps the BS5 is broken somehow..

I also connected the video out - Svideo to my tv. The tv is set to PC, and the bv asked if it was a BS5 - it is set ok. When I press PC the audio stops and the tv goes on, but no picture.. It is all black. I have also connected a usb mouse and keyboard - press these, still black..

Yesterday evening I got some answers from my dealer.

According to him there is no possibility to change volume on the BS5 if the speakers are connected to the tv - as in my setup. My old BC2 had that ability.

In my opinion the BS5 falls, when you have to use both the remote and stand beside the machine to change songs.. Then Im back where I began - with the Ipad and B&O remote.. If you have the speakers connected directly to the BS5 then you can change the volume on the BS5.. Then I need to have double speaker setup - in that case one of the ideas of B&O falls.. It is not my intention to sound negative, it is the way Im thinking and talking to my wife about this.

Another thing that irritates me is that there is no possibility to do anything else than just skip to the next song on the beo4. You have to stand beside the machine.. My dealers idea was to buy the app for the BS5. But then Im back were I started - using the iPad and the remote. In that case I can go back to my old setup - BC2, Mac and iTunse. Shure I loos MOTS witch is a cool feature, but in my opinion it is not so great that its worth it when the system is controlled like the old system - only much more expensive.. Shure BS5 is a cool machine and all, but I dont need to show off..

Perhaps there is better controlability if you use the Beo6 - if that is the case the dealers should tell that to the customers..

Regarding the a.aux input - usb, you need to have the thing that B&O recommend to get it to work. - Actually no biggie..

And since we now end up at the same place as before we bought the BS5, I will try to trade it back to my old BC2 - a masterpiece on the wall :) and having my iPad controlling my mac..

Unfortunately as often (!) the dealer is wrong.....

Ofcourse it is possible to control volume via the BS5 wheel when connected to a Beovision in "2/0" setup - V.OPT 2 - A.OPT 0.

Beo 6 gives you wifi 2way communication . So you can browse your music library. This works from everywhere in the house in all linkrooms.

This setup (BS5 - no audiomaster, BS9000 audiomaster A.OPT 0) works in my house since years.

What makes me wonder is, that you connected the BV10 via Svideo to your BS5. Usually you use the DVI out to HDMI in of your BV....(???)

What are the connections between your BM5 and BV10 and what are the settings ?

I have now tested to set the tv to V.opt 2 and the BS5 to A.opt0. I still can´t change the volume on the BS5.. The BS5 is connected to the tv with the ML cable, everything else works..

I use the Svideo-scart between the BS5 and BV because the 3 hdmi (?) inlets are busy, one set top box, one PS3 and one Mac..

The settings in the tv for the BS5 are configured AV2 - PC - Beomaster5..

I taked to my dealer today, he told med that I was one of very few customers that makes the setup completely by myself.. So in a cuple of weeks one of their best technicians are coming over to me, looking trough my setup, connections and the configurations, he will bring a Beo6.

Friend of mine had a problem with his BV10 and BS3000, speakers connected at the TV. Everything worked, speakers green, but no sound from CD/Radio. Long story short, after disconnecting TV from the mains and reconnecting it all worked.

I know long shot, but worth trying..

Ah, too bad that didn't work. Smile

Other than switching "power savings" to OFF for both products, there is not much you can do I can think of.

Good luck!

How long is your usb cable between the BM5 and the BS5?

Which USB connection did you use for connecting the BS5?

Surely the poster is talking about using the volume wheel on the BS5 to control volume.  If he has no speakers connected to the powerlink outs on the BM5 this wont work.

The only way to control volume is via remote, through the TV.

Are you Rikards dealer ?

Sorry, just kidding, but it doesn`t matter, because you are wrong anyway...

As said before, direct volume control works in an AV setup with all Beolabs connected to the videomaster -

NO Beolabs connected to the BM5 PL-outputs. My setup is BV7-40 with BS9000 and BS5 in the mainroom, all connected via Masterlink.

BV7-40 - videomaster - V.OPT 2

BS9000 - audiomaster - A.OPT 0

BS5 . no audiomaster - no OPT

I can activate the BS5 by turning the upper wheel and pressing GO.

I can use the lever for choosing artists, album, cover...settings...

I can use the Standby button on the BS5 to shut down the whole system, and

I can use the lower wheel on the BS5 to control the volume.

When I select N.MUSIC, BS5, BS9000 and BV7 will start up (BS9000 and BV7 displaying N.MUSIC),

when I turn the volume wheel, BV7 will display the changing volume level.

If you want to see the setup working, you ( and Rikard and his dealer) are welcome in my house.

Tell me when. I`ll make the coffee. Maybe you can bring some cake with you...?

Hope this helps

i am no ones dealer, I have the dullest job on earth, and you wouldn't want any cakes I'd baked.

anyway, after a bit of a play, the key is the option setting.  My BeoSound 5 was in option 1 and the volume wheel did nothing.  Put it into option0 and the volume wheel now turns on and controls the master video product, which is at the other end of the house, where the wife had some friends and their kids round.

so, in summary, yes the wheel will control the volume of speakers attached to a TV, but only the video master, so that's will be why mine had been set into option 1

Yes.  The main tv is in the TV room, with a surround sound setup.  The sky box is connected to it and we distribute sky round the house from there.  I rarely l listen to music in there, it's where we watch TV.

The BS5 is in my lounge, with a smaller TV with my own sky box connected.  It's not linked to the rest of the house for TV, but is where I listen to most of my music.  Certainly the times I want to interact with the BS5 are in this room.  In the kitchen, bedroom etc, is use the Beo6 and typically just start a playlist or select a radio station.  In the evening, when I am relaxing I have the BeoSound 5 hands on.

so yes, my video and audio masters are at opposite ends of the house.

If I select audiomaster - no the speakers and the tv shuts down. I cant start them. So Audiomaster needs to be YES if the setup shall work..

Stefan - I will take you up on the offer with coffee some day! I will have my wife baking the cace so it is eatable :)

It is still pretty enoying that this does not work out as I want it to..

I think that the setup needs the Beo6 remote to fully be usable.

My system works similarly, except for me, it is a bug, not a feature.  My bv8 is in a different room than my Bs5 and bs9000...  So when I accidentally touch my Bs5 and it starts, the tv (in the other room) switches to music.

So volume control should work in A.OPT 1...

I`d try AUDIOMASTER YES and A.OPT 0 on BS5. BV10 V.OPT 2 and shut down the whole system.

Disconnect from mains, wait a few minutes start up BV10, wait a minute, start up BS5 (now BS5 can detect the videomaster connected via ML while it`s starting up). Hope this works!

If you are near Goeteborg you can take the ferry Stenaline to Kiel. I can pick you up directly freom the habour...:)

Or if you want to come by car, just via Copenhagen..When you leave Store Belt Broen it`s about 200 km...

And we will have some danish cake too....

So you have Beolabs connected to BS9000? Your setup is like a "classical" two room av setup.

Did you try to set your BS9000 to A.OPT1 and your BV8 to V.OPT 1?

BTW: is the newest sw installed  on your BS5l? If I touch mine accidentally, BS5 BM5) will wake up and the BS5 display will show the sources and settings (N.RADIO -  N.MUSIC - SETTINGS), but it won`t start the whole system - BS9000 and BV7 will stay in standby mode...(?)

Interresting - stans setup..

When i touch the front wheel and press GO the BS5 starts, nothing else.. I have to press CD/Radio on the remote to wake the whole system up, speakers etc.

I have checked the latest sw, it states that it is updated. I am really starting to thinking of getting my old BC2 back..

Yes, that`s exactly how my BS5 is reacting....

The main difference between our setups is the BV, Maybe there are are some incompatibilities between BV10 and BS5?

If so, this should be sorted out by Beo...

Get a Beo6 with 2 way communication and the CD ripper for your BS5. I think, that`s a great improvement to the system.

Stefan,

My beolabs are connected to the BS9000.

BS5 software version is 6.05.02.3372.

I tried setting to V.OPT 1 and A.OPT 1, but still behaves the same... although maybe I need to unplug everything and restart the whole system for the settings to "take".

Thanks for your help,

Hmm...  after setting BV8 to V.OPT1 and BS9000 to A.OPT1, I cannot listen to N.Music or N.Radio on the BV8.  It seems to ignore N.radio/N.music commands from the Beo4.  Angry

Any ideas on what the default options are so I can set them back?  I listen to music via the TV far more often than I was bothered by the TV switching to music when I turned on the BS5 (which still happens, btw).

In your setup all normal audio commands are going to the audiomaster.

Did you try AV N.Music to start the music on the BV8

The a.opt, v.opt setting depends on how the speakers are connected to the tv and stereo. And also what you have connected trough the ML in the same and different rooms. So stating what a.opt/ v.opt without knowing how the setup is connected is not really possible.. :)

Look in the userguide for the tv/ stereos there you have the different .opt setting depending on how you have connected all your gear.

Sorry - forgot to mention that you must use the AV button when you control audio sources via your BV in V.OPT 1.

You also can use V.OPT 2 and A.OPT 2 in your two room setup. That`s what Beo recommends in the manual...

This is how options work:

- V.OPT1 videomaster responding only to videocommands (TV, DVD, DTV...) or audiocommands in videomode (AV-RADIO, AV-CD...)

-V.OPT2 videomaster responding to videocommands AND audiocommands (RADIO, CD...)

-V.OPT4 videomaster responding to video- AND audiocommands in LINK mode (LINK-TV, LINK-CD...)

Thank you so much.  I always wondered what the AV prefixed commands were for.  Anyway, set both to A.OPT2 and V.OPT2 and after a reset of the BS9000, we're back in business.

The TV (and not the speakers connected to the BS9000) still switches on (or to music if already on) when I turn on the BS5 locally (press N.Music or N.Radio via wheel), but oh well.  This is not a huge problem.  Perhaps it is the old-ish software in my BS9000 (early mkIII).

stefan:

you must use the AV button when you control audio sources via your BV in V.OPT 1.

-V.OPT5 videolink (slave) responding to videocommands and send them via Masterlink to videomaster

--V.OPT6 videolink (slave) responding to videocommands AND audiocommands and send them via Masterlink to video/audiomaster

- A.OPT1 audiomaster responding only to audioocommands (RADIO,CD...) or videocommands in audiomode (AV-TV, AV-DVD...)

-A.OPT2 videomaster responding to audiocommands AND  videocommands

-A.OPT4 audiomaster responding to audio- AND videocommands in LINK mode (LINK-TV, LINK-CD...)

-A.OPT5 audiolink (slave) responding to audiocommands and send them via Masterlink to audiomaster

--A.OPT6 audiolink (slave) responding to audiocommands AND videocommands and send them via Masterlink to audio/videomaster

-A.OPT 0 / V.OPT 0  no IR reception

-L.OPT5 link speaker (BL2000, BL3500, BL-active/passive..) responding to audiocommands and send them via Masterlink to audiomaster

-L.OPT6 link speaker responding to audiocommands AND videocommands and send them via Masterlink to audio/videomaster

--L.OPT4 link speaker responding to audio- AND videocommands in LINK mode (LINK-TV, LINK-CD...)

this answer deserves being enshrined in a FAQ - I will certainly print it out for future reference !
