Hi everyone! Apple recently released the new EarPods alongside the iPhone 5. Apple claim they sound on par with headphones that cost hundreds of pounds more.
Im frightened to get a pair as i may find them better than my beloved EarSet 3i's
has anyone on Beoworld done a comparison?

Hi CJM1, I really think it's marketing speak!!! I'm not holding my breath as the original ones were pretty terrible weren't they!
A friend of mine has been promised an iPhone 5 the day it ships, so I will try them and report back but I wouldn't expect a great deal from them.
Now check out Atomic Floyd earphones - they are truly incredible!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Possibly ... but Apple showed an earpod video during the keynote that went into the research etc behind the changes,
I tried to find that video on the internet: http://www.idownloadblog.com/2012/09/13/earpods-video/
I also found this interesting back story: http://www.iclarified.com/24395/watch-the-new-apple-earpods-video
There are also some audio listening tests by people contrasting the old and the new - IMHO the ones I saw were trivial tests and analyses, but one person did say that they could hear no difference between the old ear pieces and the new Apple earpods . . . . . .
I guess time will tell, but at US$29 one could do the test and eBay the result - or simply try in-store if they have then out (and you take an alcohol wipe )

All reviews on the internet are saying the same : they are far better than the original ones, and now can be qualified as "good value for money" ($29), but are still FAR away from a high end pair of earphones (muddy mids, agressive highs, low comfort...)
I use Atomic Floyd everyday, their HiDef Drums were really good value for money, and they insulate far more than Earset 3i in the metro, but for precision and natural sound, I still prefer the Earset 3.
