Well we've had a Beovision in the bedroom for a few years, just for films so there's no ariel or anything plugged in. Anyway, now she who must be obeyed has been complaining that she'd like to be able to lie down and watch rubbish when I'm out, but this is an older analogue tv - it's an MX6000 which is a beautiful set but it's pre-digital.
I wasn't sure if they were made in the era when you could get a circuit board plug-in or some sort of internal upgrade? I absolutely hate hate hate those cruddy little plastic free-view boxes and I really don't want the horrid control spoiling what is an otherwise Beo4 only house. I also have the DVD player and VHS to run through if that makes any difference. I suppose alternatively, doesn't some company sell a converter so that I could use the satellite mode of the Beo4 to control a hidden free-view box?
Calvin:a beautiful set but it's pre-digital.
I rang my cable tv people and they told me that as long as i am on cable I would be ok. They said it would affect people using dishes.
Now from experience I know these help desk types primary mission is to keep you on their network but i have my doubts......

I am with you on that.
Are you on cable or dish ?
That's the thing, we don't really watch TV, we just keep adding to a huge library of films and box sets. I'd rather spend £50/month on an eBay habbit than a sky box (why rent when you can buy?) Currently working through the Sopranos which is awesome for anyone who didn't catch it the first time around.
Anyway, she was wanting to plug in a connection to the aerial on the roof to presumably channel surf free stuff like E4, BBC1 and the like. Except if you do that it won't recognise the digital signal, but my memory was that B&O had an upgrade thing for ages where you could fit a different decoder board into the set so that it still worked seamlessly like normal
on this site you can find a special scart cable that you use to connect the digital receiver.

The scart cable includes a ir-transmitter that you attach to the receiver, it extracts the data code from scart pin in the tv and transfers it to the hidden box, so you can use the beo4 to zapp with.
if you don't have the free-view box already they sell beo compatible boxes as well:

hope it helps a bit on the way
This is fairly cool
Essentially you have a plug-and-play €280 freeview box that works with a Beo4 or you can spend less for a cable that allows you to connect an existing box and have functionality, albeit another plug needed and not as elegant. The box looks the best option really. Expensive? Yes, though not in B&O terms.
Do correct me if I'm wrong on this; I must admit, the descriptions are a bit lacking, I think I just about get it, though I suspect my parents wouldn't know where to begin and I'm increasingly self doubting about this sort of stuff
I think you have got it right, I haven't tried any of their products, but I e-mailed them a question regarding control of the box that is in my rental apartment and they replied fast and with a straight forward response.
I do agree with you, the descriptions are not as extensive and you have to read on different pages of different products in same category and make up your own picture of how it should work
