B&O recommend either the Beosound Moment+Deezer or Aries+Tidal into Beolabs. Has anyway tried either option or both options and have any advice or observations?

The Moment is £1795

The Auralic Aries if £1495

Of course the other option is a Beosound Core but you don't get the Moment's mood wheel...

That is true although there is plenty of opportunity within Spotify for example to pick music according to mood. I struggle to see the need for the Moment for streaming unless it is just the appeal of something physical from B&O.

I never thought of this point.

Are you saying the Moment is redundant because most streaming services offer mood based playlists?

From my perspective very much so, yes. There are loads of genres and moods available some even reflecting the day if the week (i.e. Lazy Sunday afternoon tunes). I'm using Spotify almost exclusively now.

Ive heard that the Moment isn't as yet equipped to handle high resolution files like 24bit 96kHz but the Core is?! How strange is that, so the Core which is quarter of the price can...

Hi

i have the auralic Aries with digital feed to my Beolab 5. This is the best product I ever own!!  The audio qualityis much much better than

Beosound 9000 and Beosound 5 with digital feed to labs 5. I highly recommend the Airies to everyone.

Best Regards

Martin

Heard others say that.

Why would an Aries be better than a Beosound as both output 1s and 0s and the digital conversion is done in the Beolab 5?

Been reading other forums and the consensus is that different digital machines shouldn't make a jot of difference. Someone gave the example of you accessing your accounting spreadsheet from your NAS on the other side of the world; the 1s and 0s pass through millions of switches, relays, microwave links, satellites, substations, underground cables and prone to solar flares, EM interference in switching substations etc. but your accounting spreadsheet always arrives in perfect form - you haven't dropped a 1 or 0 suddenly and sadly not gained any extra zeros. They say that digital streams are now so robust it's not worth worrying about. The only people that maintain some difference are the audiophile type. One person I read about, actually tested two different NAIM streamers (base model vs top-end) reading the same NAS and outputted them to the same DAC and couldn't tell the difference. Happy to stand corrected.
