The presently introduced Playmaker (PM) has DLNA support in terms of that it is a (audio) Digital Media Renderer - DMR. One of the known limitations for DLNA is that there is no procedure in the standard for syncing multiple DMRs to play the same source. Only proprietary sync solutions to DLNA like Sonos exist.

Bang & Olufsen advertisement for the DLNA support but does not tell (as usual) much technical, and the user manual does not give me much either. But reading the press release ( http://www.bang-olufsen.com/~/media/Files/PDF/Newsroom/Corporate/09072012%20pdf.pdf ) may give a hit:

"And by adding more Playmakers to more rooms with Bang & Olufsen speakers, you can sync sound throughout the house or listen to opera in one room and hip-hop in another – and create as many music zones as you like"

In my eyes it looks like several PMs will be able to be synced via DLNA, and that Bang & Olufsen has made a solution for the synchronisation. Bang & Olufsen's FAQ (http://bogo.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/7054/p/7%2C743) says that it is possible to play on several PMs via iTunes, but nothing about sync or DLNA is mentioned.

If multiple PMs can be synced, I'm looking much forward to a software update for the BS5e so it can act as a DLNA Digital Media Controller, and stream my music to a couple of PMs scattered around the house.

Has anyone any experience with playing the same music on several Playmakers in sync? or anything else to add to this potential hidden BeoNet feature?

Using iTunes you can very easily stream music to multiple PM's in sync, as well as any combinations of A8's, Blit12 or any other Airplay devices.

Kelwin:

When I was in the dealer's shop on Monday it was suggested I could but three PlayMakers (nice of them to take care of me that way Smile) and did I know "you can play them all simultaneously ?" they said excitedly, and then they asked me "Do you know how to do that ?"

I said "You mean iTunes multiple speaker support ?" and they said "Yes"

Now that was dumb of me Smile if only I had seen 48 hours into the future and seen your question I would have played dumb and said "No, how do you . . . ." and we might have gotten a DLNA answer instead Unsure

- DMR. One of the known limitations for DLNA is that their is no procedure in the standard for syncing multiple DMRs to play the same source.

And by "syncing" do you mean activating additional PlayMakers that "pull" from the source without disrupting the track that the current PlayMaker(s) are currently playing ?

The iTunes multiple speakers approach is a push model .... and I don't know anything about DLNA ... other than I have disliked the user interface of every DLNA iDevice App I have downloaded so far

What an extraordinary use of the King's English.

Are you a Cambridge graduate, or just attending ? I might suggest a less time on the PS3 and B&O, and a little more in the library.

As far as I know DLNA are using push like iTunes or AirPlay. Comparing DLNA with AirPlay, iTunes will be the Digital Media Controller - DMC and the Digital Media Server - DMS.at the same time. The DMC will tell what to be played, and the DMS will push the data to all the DMRs. The DMRs has to have a mean to communicate with each other, either via the DMS sending sync signals, or by communicating to each other.

Since this feature for AirPlay is only available in from iTunes and not from iDevices, I believe that the server sending sync signals model is used here. How it (will) works with DLNA and PM would be interesting to know.

Sorry SWISS_2 if my English was unclear to you. I have tried to tightened it up a bit, so hope it is more clear now. I make no illusion of that I master the Queen's English, as I'm dyslexic.

PS. and sorry if I have broke your illusion of the that city of Cambridge contained only a University and proper Englishmen. No English is not my native, no I do not have a Cambridge degree.

Thanks for that explanation -- and a very good one too !

I beleive DLNA is "pull", while AirPlay is Push, this is why DLNA can't be sync'ed.

I think before using WI-FI products with iPhone&Co everyone should read this:

Gas is very dangerous. Candles too, reason #1 for home fires during christmas.

Simply avoid any kind of energy.

I agree 150 %.

I have an Enercon Wobben Wind " Farm " in our neighbourhood, only a few Km away.

Quiet, non-obtrusive, productive, and my electrical rates remain stable and at low cost.
