Dear Beo Specialists,
Unless I am mistaken, I did not find a thread concerning the following problem:
Beomaster 5500: while playing the left or right channel can go soft at once (not both at once). This usually goes away by either moving swinging the volume down and up or by muting and un-muting or by turning unit off and on.
Sometimes the unit will be with one channel soft once turned on and some cycling with the volume will fix the issue. Sometimes one channel goes soft and comes back again by itself. This can typically happen a few times in an hour. Otherwise all works fine and sounds fine.
What are the best first steps to fix this problem? As far as I know (I do not own it from the beginning), it is all in stock condition.

Common fault, the mute relay needs to be replaced. Your symptoms are typical.
Easy job if you have desolder/solder skills.

EDIT: Alternatively you can move your speakers to the Speaker 2 sockets which are not connected via the mute relay - and the problem should go away. (That's assumes that you are not using speaker 2 for anything else!)

I have placed my speakers on the second sockets and that solved my issue. So indeed it is that relay.
Many thanks for the thread of the person who fully recapped his beomaster. Not sure I will one day go that far. I tend to let things be as long as they work.
