These fantastic speakers (I think they're my favourite) are so cheap it's almost unbelievable.I've just bought a pair, serial number confirming they are the later "white foam" type for £190 - just over 10% what they would have cost new. If you're patient you can get them for this price (or even less!) from ebay. If you haven't heard a pair, and need some speakers for your kitchen / office / garage / shed, then give them a try - you won't be disappointed. I actually prefer their sound to my 8000s....

Cheers

Nigel, you're not going to find many people on these forums who'd disagree. When the BL4000s were being sold, they were regarded as the best B&O value for money speakers. They've been supplanted with the BL17's but now on the second hand market, they're a downright steal! The only issue is if you want to mount them - the brackets are hard to find, and they're super heavy so one would have to find the right placement if they're not just sitting on a shelf. Glad you're happy with them. What color did you purchase?

Black. They're for my son, so had to be black! Personally I'm waiting for a blue pair to turn up on ebay for my office at home. I currently have a gold pair in the bedroom and my other son has a silver pair. I wonder when I'll stop buying them...Big Smile

Cheers

sincerely, I can't understand how you can find them better than a pair of 8000.

I had several pair and never wanted to keep them as their sound is so common.

I will try them soon as surround speakers next time above the couch just because I don't want to put them into the bin. I actually use a pair of bl8000 at 6 meter of my couch and I am surprised by their sound at this place.

To be honest for less than 200 euros, they are still a good purchase.

4 beolab 5,  beolab 9, beolab 10, beolab 5000, beolab 8000 mk2, beolab 6002, beolab 3500, beovision 7 55 mk2,  2 beovision 11 46 mk4, beotime, beosound ouverture, beosound essence, beoplay A8, beomaster 900 RG de luxe and the collection continues...

Nigel,

I totally agree!!!  I just got my first pair of BL4000s for my bedroom.  They are fantastic!  Way above my expectations.  I think they come close to sounding as good as my BL8000s but I still like the 8000s, best out of what I have in my current collection...

Beosound 9000 MK III, Beosound Century, Beogram 5005, Beolab 8000, Beolab 5000,  Beolab 4000, Beolab 5, Beovision 8, Beovision 10, Beovision 5, Beoplay A2, Beoplay E8, Beoplay H6.

As of my point of wiew...they are TOP PICK for the money..every day!

And BL600 to!

Why ...exta cheap...beautiful sound....RCA + PWL ....NO ICE power inside MK1...easy to install in all rooms..timeless design...will work for many many years to come!

Can we delete this thread and keep quiet?  We wouldn't want the prices to rise! Wink

Are you talking about the BL 6000?

Because after some reading here, i was led to believe that 6000's are the dirty bad duck from the Beolab Family.

Unfortunately (or not) they're the only ones in (close-to) my budget for now. Because for what i see in our local french second hand* market 6000 are around 500€ and 4000 around the same but more hard to find. Last month they were three pairs (4000) to sell around 200€ but all faulty. And when i managed to find a working pair under 200€ it was… A mistake from the seller!

Anyway, even if i dream of a beautiful BL8000 to replace my BL2500, i think i will eventually go for 6000 because even knowing 4000's should sound better, i find them hard to place.

Sorry for the story of my life, but in a nutshell, my reaction to your post is:

How about the "hierarchy" of the bola when second hand prices going down?

And what about ICE power? Is it better without it?

* Average prices here in Paris:
- BL6000: around 400-500 €.
- BL4000: around 500-900 €.
- BL8000: around 1000 €.

I would respectfully add that i'm not a big supporter of the "go to a shop and listen by yourself" practice. First because i havent that finest ear and second because i believe that when you bring back the speakers into your home, with your walls and your placement, it sounds different.

I appear to have developed a specific strain of the Beovirus, namely Beolab4000itus....

Have just aquired another pair, mint, for £160...

4 pairs and counting...I'm running out of places to put them.. Laughing

Cheers

BL4000s are a great small speaker, refined and delightful, and one of the most beautiful speakers I've seen. Far better looking than yet another pair of monkey coffins. They and the BL8000 still stand tall as design icons to me. Over here in the US they're harder to find, if/when I do find some at a good price, they will be mine!

Jeff

I'm afraid I'm recovering from the BeoVirus. Sad
