Hi
I am having some trouble with a set of Penta MK2's but cannot remember if they are actually working as designed.
1: I have a set of Penta 3's connected to my Beosound Moment. They are connected via powerlink and set to L/R.
When Moment turns on, the Penta's power on. When muting the Moment, the sound disappears, but they stay green. The Moment outputs approx 3.8v on pin 4(speaker relay), and 0v on pin 1(power on). This makes me to believe that the MK3 detects line signal in Powerlink, instead of the control voltages from 1 and 4.
2: Then to the Penta 2's. They do NOT turn on(stays red, but the display actually turns on) when connected to the Moment, but they do turn on when connected to a Beomaster 4500. BM4500 outputs 8v on both pins when powered on, and 0v on pin4(speaker relay) when muted. However, the penta 2 stays green when the BM4500 is muted, where the MK3's actually powers down(red led and relay off) when the BM4500 mutes.
I actually thought that the MK2 and MK3 was the same input wise, but maybe I am wrong ? Cant see any difference in the service manuals that I notice at least.
Can anyone enlighten me on if the MK2 are doing what it is supposed to do ? And why does it not power on with the Moment as the MK3 ?
Thanks :)
/Jacob
This may be silly question, but are you using fully wired powerlink cables?
I think the thin powerlink cables only carry four wires.
Ask Steve at Sound's Heavenly,he's the oracle here for cabling issues.

All cables are fully connected :) In both scenarios..
Above experience is the same as here.
The mk2 behaves different from the mk3.
As I already mentioned somewhere else, the pin 1 is shortened to pin 4 internally at the mk3. This not the case with the mk2.
So, the mk2 needs a signal on both pin 1 and 4, otherwise it will not start.
The mk3 responds to the Moment when it starts. It starts up and the display will work.
But just pausing will not switch off the mk3. For that you need to touch the inner circle on the Moment for several seconds. The Moment mentions that it will go into standby. Then the mk3 switches off. But the display stays on. No data is send to the Penta to switch off the display.
I've made a photo from the modified traces in the mk3. Look at the cutted traces on the inputboard.

Thank you very much :) That explains it..
But are that modification a B&O mod, or something you have done ?
Will this modification also change the different behaviour regarding turning speaker off during MUTE on the Beomaster 4500 ?
This modification is officially done by B&O.
Muting will probably done by still powering the pin 1, but not on pin 4. That makes switching off the amps with still working displays.

Just did this modification on the MK2's and now they behave just like MK3 :)
Thank you very much, can't believe I missed this detail when restoring my MK3's..
Regarding "mute", it still works like it should, at least with my BM7000, when muting the amp turns off, but display stays on with "_ _" as volume.
All is good :)
You’re welcome.
