BG4002 type 5513 is stuck ... tonearm at end of record position and turning.
Will lower and/or raise . Press STOP , I hear a whirring hi frequency sound and that is all.
Will not retreat or advance.
What is 1st step to troubleshoot ?
Remove the right rear cover and check the tone arm drive motor and belt.

I agree. If the controls can operate the tonearm lowering and raising then it sounds like something happened with the belt that runs the arm assembly. If it broke or came off then the motor will just spin endlessly. For now just unplug the Beogram and remove the cover plates. I recommend removing the cartridge first so you don't accidentally damage it when opening the Beogram up. Once you can see the insides you can observe what is going on with the arm drive motor.

Your suggestions were valid and I did manage to take off the plates and investigate.
The belt and/or motor that drive the slide carriage are AOK.
The culprit is the switch relay that contacts the ruler assy and this was askew. I managed to hand turn the threaded rod to free up the blockage and the contact spring lever was bent. This was not straightforward however, I carefully cleared the ruler assy and now have easy access and sight of the relay and the path..
From what I see, I have to remove the plexi ruler and bend back the contact and this might be dangerous as I do not want to break the metal tab. Part(s) unobtanium ?
Please see the 2 pics/jpeg files and tell me if I am on the right course. Right now , I am faint of heart and I am reluctant to go further as in my neck of the woods , the chance of finding a knowledgeable BG 4002 repair tech are virtually nil.

It appears to me that someone has worked on that Beogram in the past and replaced some of the original parts. There should be a black plastic sensor housing in the picture. Who knows why one of those position sensor switches is so badly bent out of position. Replacements can probably be found for the repair but I am wondering what else on that Beogram has been altered. When I run into a Beogram in that condition I always do a restoration of the whole thing.

Something Missing ?
I removed (temporary) the black plastic housing that covers the phototransistor so I can get a good look at the e.g. lamp that triggers this sensor.
The BG4002 service manual PDF version that I have does not cover type 5513 and thru this BEOGRAM forum, it was mentioned that type 5513 encompassed a LED while the older S.M. version indicates a bulb. It turns out this forum and members are right and it is LED.
By taking off the platter and the respective plates, I learned a whole lot about the workings of this marvelous machine and since I have a good operational BG3404 (THX Martin for belts and dustcover clips), I will refurbish the BG4002. Very carefully !
Question to Martins et al .. What is missing from the center microswitch ? Should I attempt to bend back the contact lever ?

If I remember correctly, thw switches should be identical.So the left switch in the photo is missing its small square plate spring and its black plastic "head".Will the carriage ever hit the switch as is?

In an American 70s TV show MASH, one of the lead characters was referred to as HawkEye and I have to acknowledge kudos to your perceptive eye as I did not spot the discrepancy between the 2 (identical switches).

Looking closer, it actually seems to have its plastic head - just bent over backwards.And the spring is definitely missing.
And I do remember M*A*S*H
