I have just bought a pair of Bang & Olufsen P30 Speakers and I have no idea what amp to buy that will work with it. Ideally, it will have an audio jack socket.

The person I bought it from has described the wire connection as follows: "A female din connector is at the end of each speaker wire & they just plug into both speakers, there is no din at the other end of the speaker wire just the standard bare 2-wire so you can connect them to most amps."

Having no experience in buying amps in the past any help would be very useful, also bare in mind I am on a tight budget!

Thanks in advance!

I had P30s with a Beomaster 2400 but why not look for a 901 - otherwise, any 30 W amplifier that takes your fancy. P30s must be wall mounted or they are not that great - on the DIN plug point of view, you can buy 2 pin DIN plugs with screw terminals at Maplins if in the UK.

I had the bigger brother P45s for some time and they are quite frankly brilliant!

Thanks very much for the help Peter. I am on the lookout for a 901!

Is there anything I need to look out for in a 30W amplifier, not sure about the Impedance and a search for a 30w amp doesn't pull up too many results!

thanks,

Hi,

as Peter suggested Beomaster 901 would be one of the matching amplifier for your Beovox P-30, visually very effective one.

You could also look for one of the Beomasters from the long 1900 Series (Beomaster 1900 / 2000 / 2200 / 2400 / 3000 / 3300, eventually 3500 and 4500 but the last 2 don't have wooden applications on the side). They all match visually P30 very well too. The bigger the model number, the better (newer) the amplifier section is.

But you could also try to find any of the Beomaster of the 70's period such a Beomaster 1100, 1200, 1400, 1500 ... or even the compact devices integrating record player (and/or cassette player) too, for example Beocenter 1400, 1500, 1800, 2600, 2800, 3600, 4600 ...

The range is very wide, you can't make big mistake. Simply look to the web for all those models and take the one your most like ...

...

and that's what the B&O product catalog for 1977/78 recommends (look to the second picture, few of Beosystem configurations include P30)...

This is all so helpful, thank you so much.

So am I right in thinking that any of these amps would be compatible but they just recommend the pairing the speakers to these amps? I have found a Beosystem 1900-2 on ebay for a good price and just want to be 100% sure that it will work.

Thank you, thank you!

Exactly. Those are only few possible configuration recommend by B&O.

Yes, Beomaster 1900-2 will work with Beovox P30 fine as its power output is stated as 2 x 30 watts.

Actually you should only avoid the "strong machines" (e.g. Beomaster 4400, 6000 or 8000) which could have to much load for your P30 if you drive the amp high.

If you are not sure if the amp has to much power output, you can ask here or look to the product pages,  section of the beoworld and look for the specifications of the wanted amp...

Wish you lot of pleasant hours with your new B&O vintage gear Yes - thumbs up

I have the big brother P45 and use a Beomaster 3000-2 rated at 2 x 30 watt. Sounds awsome together.

And as stated earlier you need to hang the P30 on the wall for them to sound good. Preferably at a level where the tweters are at ear level.

It is also a good idea to re-glue the magnets on these speakers as the old glue crumbles. This was at least the case for the P45. Not sure about the P30. Try to google it. If they are not glued correctly the magnets may displace/damage itselv. It is quite hard to get new woofers.

Office: Beomaster 3000-2 with Beovox P45 (all in white)

Living room: Beomaster 7000 and Beogram 7000 with Beovox RL 7000 (all in white)

Kitchen: Beocenter 2300 with Beovox 4500 (not available in white :-(

The 1900-2 is the same amplifier as the 2400-2 but without remote control. It is one of the iconic B&O products and was the first of the touch sensitive devices .

B&O speakers do work fine with any make of amplifier - and B&O amplifiers are fine with most makes of speakers! Your combination will be fine - the 1900 is relatively complicated to fix as a lot in the case so make sure it is working before you buy!!
