New York tonight, rest of civilised planet tommorow. Device very large(30 inches diameter my medium forecasts) sounds as good as a Beolab 9 and can be wall mounted!!! Is it a disc?

Beosound Stage, Beovision 8-40, Beolit 20, Beosound Explore.

To be fair, most dealers say everything (that is on the way) is fantastic :)

Anyway, let us know how you find it and your opinions, photos etc!

Apologies my dealer told me next Wednesday last week but it's actually next Wednesday the 10th for the bv11. He also told me the new speaker will look like a single speaker off the beo sound 8.

Apologies again

Chris, do you mean tonight NY-time or tonight EU-time?

Well they planned that real well.  They should do these things in London or Paris but not today in New York.  The presidential debates are tonight and at least half the country will be watching.  Of course maybe the hardcore B&O fans will be there.  However Bang and Olufsen will not get the news coverage they expected.

But clearly a lot bigger at 30 inches. Sounds like to me that it's BS8-style device, without the need for a phone/iPad, wrapped up in a single large BL9 (without alts) speaker? One speaker, distributing sound, with AirPlay/DLNA, so you can stream audio wirelessly.

Could be very interesting for our office.

They should only release this stuff once its been well and truly tested and then approved, by the "Beoworld Massive"Cool

Hmm, no powerlink... - I think i might have to tone down the excitement a little - this is sounding more like an standalone airplay device, rather than a speaker that could be used with a V1 as a stereo pair.

Still, I'm hoping it'll be good for B&O - if it's available as a stereo pair though to couple with a V1, I'd be even more happy!

I guess we'll know in a few hours...

Best regards

John... Cool

Sounds very interesting, this new premium Beosound...Cool
Just hope that 'premium' doesn't mean it's priced above the BS 5.

Steffen, the OP tells it clearly, Bang & Olufsen did neither announce a new BeoSound audiosystem
nor did they announce a BLb 5 killer -  they simply announced the new top of the line product of the
B&O PLAY family.

I was referring to the posting by 'srm' who mentioned what his dealer told him:

New TV (not B&O play)

New B&O play moveable speaker (must be the A9?)

New sourround speaker set

AND - New premium Beosound... (Which should mean: not B&O play)

-but maybe this dealer was wrong...Huh?

I'm a bit confused. How is the UK launch tonight, but the Beoplay page says 1 days 19 hours to launch? Surely they do understand the use of the internets where users announce information themselves? These days it's impossible to launch in one country and keep it under wraps!

is it really??Confused no info has leaked on the web so far, was there really an event yesterday?

according http://www.bang-olufsen.com/~/media/Files/PDF/Newsroom/B_O%20Play/BeoPlay_pre_pressrelease.pdf there should have been somthing on the 3rd...

Clearly B&O's press office is highly professional :) No-one seems to know when/how/where exactly. I was also told the 4th by my dealer.

"Bang & Olufsen unveils the BeoPlay A9, a wireless audio system. I hope I get to review it. What are the chances there's one in the gift bag?"

The quote is a tweet from Gregory Schmidt, a New York Times Tech Editor who attended the event.  The pics are from 2 other attendees' tweets.

Seriously, WTF is that? Has someone mocked up the worst design they could, just to wind us up? :)

EDIT: that is nothing (I repeat, nothing) like I was expecting. I was expecting a cool, ultra-modern, smaller BL9 (without alt) single speaker that would receive AirPlay/DLNA signals and direct audio at a 360 radius, so, wherever you are located in the room, you get the same audio experience.

Oh... I think we're gonna have to get used to the fact that BeoPlay toys won't use the same design language as the main B&O range.

Thank said, it will work in a modern urban flat. I guess you can change the fabric to match your interior.

It won't work in my modern urban flat. I don't like it at all. And it's absolutely huge. You can see that in comparison to other stuff in the background. Surely it's not going to come cheap, either?

Seems to be a direct competitor for those who think of buying a Geneva Lab sound system. I don't like that, but a lot of people are buying that kind of stuff.

The neo-retro-50"s look of the wooden foot is totally in the current furniture trend. For non-fashionnable + high tech modern look, there is the Bang & Olufsen brand. Beoplay is highly fashionable.

Funny optics ... have to see it in real life to judge ... but how does it sound ... physically it should have some potential !?

The wooden stands look quite odd though ... certainly nothing i would buy because of its design.

Cheers

They've magnified and halved an A8 and set it on a quaint little wooden pedestal. I'm sure it fills its niche (whatever that is) well and I'll look forward to experiencing it in person, however I don't think I'll be placing an order!

Well they weren't kidding when they said it would be BIG! Laughing

I would be more interested if this was just a funky new BeoLab and I could use a pair for stereo use.

Very, very curious as to what is inside!!

The photo sort of looks like a kettle drum thats been fitted to its stand incorrectly.

If it really is as big as it appears I would imagine the number of modern households that could accomodate this in a normal sized living space would be quite low, even assuming the design appeals to you.

What a surprising old design ? I was waiting for a tall and slim modern speaker in aluminium.

Beoplay A9 is a large speaker, made in wood !!! Sad

At last B&O have made something more than a speaker, that just gives out loads of sound!!

A floor standing dart board..an outdoor archery target, even a canvas to paint on... So don't knock it's size lol...

On the other hand should sound great because of its size! And yep diffrent that's B&O. The only thing I not sure of is the stand?

Look a all modern furniture catalogs in 2012 : they are all full of products that looks 100% if they were made in the 50's. Even Ikea PS collection is totally retro-styled this year.

Hipster buy vinyls, wear big retro prescription glasses like the £2 models you would have thrown 2 years ago... Future isn't what it used to be!! Maybe in 2-6 years, the trend will move again to futurism, but now, it's RETRO time (maybe something link to the global crisis, return of old values, etc.)

I was told today that this A9 will be £1700, which is a little more than I expected. Does a £1700 product fit in the "BeoPlay" consumer range?

Another shocking design desaster after the Playmaker.

I'm very disappointed. But my wife will be very happy, because I don't need money for B&O-equipment anymore, so she can buy hundreds pair of shoes in the near future (I hope better designed than Beoplay products)!
