Finally, it all makes sense.
Raeuber:Another shocking design desaster after the Playmaker. I'm very disappointed. But my wife will be very happy, because I don't need money for B&O-equipment anymore, so she can buy hundreds pair of shoes in the near future (I hope better designed than Beoplay products)! /Räuber
Maybe it will look better in the official pics?
I agree with Moxxie, £1700 maybe not a huge BeoPlay market???
ɓʋɾɑɳɫɘɮ: Finally, it all makes sense.
I can definitely imagine coming home from work to find the bairns have drawn on it.
Ban boring signatures!
moxxey: I was told today that this A9 will be £1700, which is a little more than I expected. Does a £1700 product fit in the "BeoPlay" consumer range?

My thoughts, exactly. Not really sure where they are headed with the whole concept of PLAY.
I just don't see the A9 being a very big hit, except with my kids -or my hip, pipe smoking uncle who passed in 1976 at 66.
From a functional standpoint, if this thing is capable of such "big sound" -it seems it would be skating all over a hard floor with those spiny-tipped legs.
Judging from the photo's thus far I think its horrendous!!

That's a feature! It's called "Scuttle Shake". B&O decided it would be great if the speaker jumped around a little, like a hyperactive kid, when playing loud music.
mbee,
You're right, it's RETRO time.
B&O PLAY plays with retro style ?
The legs remind me of those of the Mini 514 RG MODERNE, made in 1958.
Well(huge long sigh)
Things change i guess and the B&O of 2022 will look as different as the 2002 range did compared to 2012. Ok that was a bad comparison, maybe 1992? Ok another bad comparison.
About 18 months ago i was in the local Apple store, where i met a smart young man who was a big fan of B&O and design. He was telling me about how the design was going to be contracted out, and that was going to be the policy from now on. No more internal design. I shrugged this off as aimless chit chat, as how could a company with such heritage desert one of its founding strengths to save a few pennies.
Now 18 months later the range of products from B&O(Beoplay), that i associate with the brand and find desirable,is getting smaller and smaller. Dear god let the Beovision 11 be as good as i have been told it is. My loyalty, and the associated pocket will only reach so far.
On a plus side i guess i was told it will sound as good as a Beolab 9, which lets face is great for £1700. The feet are cheap and nasty. They should have made them look like the feet of a moon lander or something crazy,if they are going down this bold design route.
Another big sighhhhhhhhhhhh
Beosound Stage, Beovision 8-40, Beolit 20, Beosound Explore.
Don't confound B&O Play and Bang & Olufsen. Ok, the Playmaker is labelled as Bang & Olufsen, but there were always design mistake (think of HDR2 / DVD2).
If you look at the latest releases on the Bang & Olufsen side, it's still iconic shiny aluminum products (BL12, BV12, BS5...). B&O play let the brand express a new territory, with retro designs that have proven to appeal the young trendy crowd, and that's good that B&O Play products doesn't appeal to "loyal Bang & Olufsen customers", otherwise you will be tempted by "downgrading" your B&O setup to a Play setup, which is not what B&O wants you to do with your money!!

I think I don't quite understand. The photo is of the A9 speaker and it is £1700. Correct? Do you buy 2 of them? Is there anymore information? I guess I need more coffee.
@linder : Stereo has been buried during the rise of the dock market, weren't you aware of that? Nobody listen to multiple speakers nowadays...

It is a shame, but probably a bit true as well. You'd think with all the technological progress made in the last 30 years, everybody would be enjoying great sound on great hifi... instead people are happy to listen to bad quality tiny sound systems...
Beoworld app with direct photo upload and emoticons.
Okay I get it. Does this speaker have Airplay?

They are sold as wireless speakers. my guess is they are based on the Playmaker, so they should have Airplay and UPNP/DLNA.

Well, my dealer said that the BV11-55 should come in at around £10,000 with the stand, so that's some "good" news. I do wonder about the differences between our solid/heavy BV10 and the forthcoming BV11. Will be interesting to hear more info from Russ, particular how the speakers perform, compared to our BV10.

Think of it as a BIG Beolit 12...
PhilLondon: Think of it as a BIG Beolit 12...
That should have been...."Think of it as a BIG expensive Beolit 12...". It's three times the price :)
I'm wondering if the new bv11 will have better speakers than the bv10 and just what the design will look in like general.
Beoplay A2

Well it looks very different to what I was perhaps expecting...
I don't mind the look, albeit I don't see it being a timeless classic perhaps, but then it's not mega expensive either in relative terms, and if it has a large bass driver, is likely to have some sonic clout. Being so close to the floor though, I would wonder about the midrange and treble quality.
I'll reserve judgement until I see specs and more photos.
On the face of it though, it doesn't seem as if it's intended as a stereo pair for a V1 unfortunately.
Still, if B&O can generate interest and sales, then it's all to the overall good IMHO.
Kind Regards
John...
To those who ripped the A9 apart, be patient.
You can't see much on the picture. I would think they offer alternatives to the wooden legs hust like they have alternate speaker colors.
Maybe there is a floorstand.
To me this makes sense, let's wait for the offical price announcement, 1700 pounds seems upper end but who knows, if it is DLNA and Airplay that might work ...

A9 is DKK 15000 confirmed by a dealer to me.
The same in Norway... Maybe it can be hanged on the wall too...
Will see

I assume you ment wall bracket???
But I agree with you. Given the price this could be the most powerful “Air”-speaker ever built. And if the sound is comparable with a BL9, this speaker will definatly will give you the WOW-factor, despite the design..
But with brushed aluminum legs, it would have more a B&O look, I guess.. Although, I’ll have to see it in flesh first.

You maybe right. What do you think though, an extra £100 for aluminium legs instead of wood?
I guess they need to keep materials as a differentiator between B&O play and Bang & Olufsen
Beo4 'til I die!
Just found the following article about the Beoplay A9 on engadget, with press release.

Looks interesting, I think its worth seeing in real life

I like it. I can imagine it hanging from the ceiling.
what the hell is that ?
That is the worst modern design I have seen in an awful long time.
A beautiful object.
Perfect to match with Vitra Eames DSW chairs and RAR rocking chair!
I like it !
Now that some of the blurbs seem to be confirming this contraption is mountable on a wall, well -I think I could see that!
The specs seem strong. I think it might be fun in a kinda' funky way.
But, at that price -funky alone doesn't cut it! It just looks too Walmarty discounty.
I just don't see many of these moving off the shelves and into PLAY customer's abodes.
The PLAY message seems blurrier than ever!
I have a bad feeling the A9 may ultimately become known as a platter for someone's head!
I bet it sounds amazing but the design is too be desired, i'm just looking forward to seeing what the bv11 looks like.
