Hello all,

After buying my first BV 8-32 and thinking it was going to have masterlink (it does not), I have been trying to figure out the best way to link the BV to my BS9000 MK1.  Is this possible to use a Beolink converter for this?

Thanks!

-Tucker

Unfortunately, you will need to add a Masterlink module to your BV 8-32 and you will also need to get the TV software updated by a dealer using the software "Service Tool" to allow it to function correctly.

The Masterlink module is called the "System Module" PCB51

Hi,

I'm sorry but that's not possible. You need to get a Systemmodule (4375) or a DVB-T Module (4470) which also contains a Masterlink connection. Both modules contain an additional SCART connector to be used with a B&O VCR or HDR and also a RF Link Out with a system modulator is on the modules.

EDIT: i shouldn't start a reply and complete it more than an hour later.

The module could be found sometimes on eBay. I once found one 4375. No software update was necessary in my case.

I regret to say that in my view it will be difficult to find. It seems to me that you only have three options:-

  1. Contact all the pre-owned B&O company's such as iconic AV, Timeless AV, Morethan AV etc.just in case they have one
  2. Buy a pre-owned Beovision 8-32 WITH a system module and sell the one you have currently.
  3. Search on Ebay as there have been a couple posted which have sold.

What are you trying to achieve with such a connection?  Are you trying to play the BS9000 through the BV8's speakers, or the BV sound through Beolabs connected to the BS?

EDIT:  And are they in the same room or different rooms?

My goal was to have the BS9000 and 2 BL4000s connected to the BV8, with the BV8 being a center channel and the BL4000s being left and right.

You could use the AUX socket on the BS9000 as an Audio out, and feed it into a spare SCART socket on the BV8-32. Pins 2 &6 of a standard SCART are audio inputs.

Thus to listen to the BS through the BV you'd have to switch on the BV8 and select the appropriate input, then control the BS separately.  Volume control would be on the BV.

EDIT: The BL4000s would be connected to the BV8, of course.  And you'd need a dummy PL plug in the BS9000 to prevent it from defaulting to A.Opt 0.

Jus to add that I have a BV8-32 and at one point used in the way you describe - BUT the sound module in my BV8-32 wasn't a dolby one and music sounded worst than when teh speakers were connected to the Beosystem. Sound from the TV sounded great though - especially films. When I had my old Avant 32RF the sound for both Audio and Video was great, but when I swapped it for an 8 it was markedly worst on music only.

Maybe something like this http://uk.bosscom.com/product.asp?id=1082&m1=2078&m2=2504&m3=&m4=

Forgive me for my lack of knowledge with all this...  This may be a silly question.  Would there be a way to plug the powerlink output from the back of the BV8 to the AUX input on the Beosound 9000 with some kind of adapter cable? This would be with the Beolabs connected to the BS9000.  So sound from the BV would go through the Beolabs when the BS 9000 is set to the A.Aux option?

You could do this but powerlink is a variable level hence you would have the problem of double volume control.

However, each of the SCARTs also provides a line level AUX out - from pins 1 & 3.  If you have a spare SCART socket on the TV you could use this as an AUX out, and feed it to the AUX input on the BeoSound.  Adaptors are available on eBay etc.

I might recommend that you wait to get the TV before you order these connectors.  I *think* there are US spec'd BV-8s that do not have SCART connectors since this connector is not widely used in the US.  I have a BV8-40 that doesn't have any as far as I know.

Thanks Stan,

I have the TV, however I have only used the HDMI input so far, so I will have to check which connections it has when I get home.  All I know is it does not have Masterlink even  though the seller assured me it did before I bought it...  Angry

Good point - but I am pretty sure that later US-models had SCART; the old forum had a couple of threads of US members wondering what to do with them!

One other concern that I have just thought of:  I am not sure if an hdmi source will transmit the audio over the BV's SCART audio out.

Welcome to B&O in the USA.  In my experience, most people in the 2nd hand market often don't know what they are selling.  You have to check and double-check...
