Or in other way: I have the BM6500 setup and would like to connect the BL3500,  type 1601, item 1160112 s/n 235390** in a nearby room. My BL3500 have both MCL in common connection as well like PL (DIN ) connection.

My BM6500 have PL and speaker output with data / 4- points connection.

Can I buy or solve a adapter with speaker data and PL in one end and in the other end either a 1) fuld PL connector or a 2) MCL connector.

Addition a long, ten meters, 1)  PL cable or 2) a long MCL cable

Or do I need a MCL/PL converter? I have a ML /MCL type 1651, så 1.4 s/n 150915** on stock.

Also a MCL X-TRA speaker type 2047 sw 2.0 s/n 118910**   25.  56W.  2.0 with some transceivers.

Can I use anything of these?

Any working advices are appreciated.

/Leif

Hej Leif,

you’ll just need a BeoLink Converter 1611, a PL cable and the length of ML cable, that is necessary to reach the BL3500.

If you want to run it through walls, you’ll need to cut it and to join it again using a ML junctionbox.

In addition you can connect your X-tra speaker box/es using MCL cables connected to the speaker output of the BM6500.

These cables can be found for little money via e.g. den Blå Avis, if not enough at hand.

And...you can use the 1651 to drive passive speakers in yet another room, when you connect it to the ML string coming from the 1611 (an ir-eye is required, though).

A second MasterLink cable can be added using a ML junctionbox.

Have fun - there is still lots of potiental in this old gear....if you have some good passive speakers.

MM:

Thanks, as I was afraid of I have to buy one of these units.

And yes - I have the necassary speakers, if the 1651 come in use - you proberly know from some others sites I have (nearly) almost in B&O audio between 1960 and 1980 + more up in the eighties.

A little OT: Can I use the 1651 in a way with a BT something to stream without connection to the ML?
The growing up kids can use it then - maybe.......
(Just to use the amp. in it to something else than laying at a shelve).
But when it comes to use BT myself I think I connect to the old 5000 system.

Hi Leif,

You can use your mk.2 Beolab 3500 speaker directly with a Powerlink output of the Beomaster 6500 using a Powerlink mk.2 cable, this way no converter is needed:-

https://www.soundsheavenly.com/powerlink-8-pin-din-connection/23-powerlink-mk-2-compatible-black-8-pin-din-cable-with-fully-wired-8-cores.html

As your speaker is the newer mk.2 version, it does not have an MCL input, only Powerlink and Masterlink.  Or you can use a Masterlink cable via an ML/MCL Converter if you prefer, as Millemissen suggested.

Please ask if you need any help with cabling for your system!

Kind regards, Steve.

Hi Steve

Thanks for your reply.

Just tried with 4 different PL full wired cable - but without any luck. No sound / display funktion at all.

My BL3500 in for test located beneath the BM 6500, I tried set it up in the Beo4 List option to both 4 or 6 (the the Beo 4 displayed Radio).....

The BL 3500 just write    : .  in the display. I can change the clock setup from No Clock to Clock 1 and Clock 2 vis Mute & Timer touch. That's all.

My BM6500 have correct clock set.

Even tried both PL in BM6500....

Can the BL 3500 be defect - missing some setup? Haven't been connected for around 1 year until now.

In the BL3500 manual is written that even the BL has a PL connector is NOT a PL connector - page 5 in my Danish version.

And in the English:
Connections as follows:

In the local room: Connect the MCL cable (8-pin plug) to the MCL socket on the BeoLab 3500

in the central room: Connect the MCL cable (two 3-pin plug) to the Speakers 2 (MCL) socket on your Beomaster

What can I do?

A used converter 1611 can be bought for very little money nowadays.

The reason why I suggested using this with the BL3500 is, that you then can use the 1651 as well - they are both ML-based. That is, if you want to have access to the sources of the BM in every room.

You can use a 1651 as an amp, as you know. To use it as a standalone setup, however you would have to use it in a combination with the 1611 (with the ir-eye connected). The 1611 has an input port called ‘PC’. By using the right cable (Steve will tell you which one), you can connect a BT receiver there. You must activate that input with the command ‘PC’ on a Beo4 and control the volume with that as well.

Again, lot of possibilities....you just have to decide, what you need/want and - of course - you must know howto do it ;-)

Hi Leif,

Beolab 3500 mk.1 (up to serial no. 1934xxxx) have an MCL socket and they can connect to the Speaker 2 outputs of the Beomaster as you described.

Beolab 3500 mk.2 (above serial no. 1934xxxx) have a PL socket instead and they can connect to the Powerlink socket of the Beomaster with a fully wired mk.2 Powerlink cable.

For Beolab 3500 mk.2 please press MENU MENU 0 4 GO on a Beo4 or MENU MENU 0 4 PLAY on a Beolink 1000 (please ensure that the "GO" or "PLAY" button is only pressed briefly) to set the speaker into Powerlink mode.

Or you can use the 1611 Converter as Millemissen explained.

Kind regards, Steve.

Hi again

This stuff drives me crazy.

I use Beo4.

Done this:

1) Power off  BM6500 - on Red Dots at beo4.
2) Power on BL3500
3) Beo 4 key sequences as from Steve: Menu Menu 0 4 go
4) BL3500 respons with a little blink in display for clock. The dots : seems to glitter briefly. I think from a side view in my eyes....
5) Power on BM6500
6) No connection to BL whatsoever BL in Option 4 or 6
7) But BM speaker output decreased a lot  ~ 10 numbers in volume display.

Question 1:Had I by using this code changed something in BM instead of in BL - they are placed nearby each other for this test.

Question 2: Has the BM6500 an option for PL on / off?
In diagram it looks like so - could also be the Mute function - I didn't go deep into it.

Question 3: Where do I find all those key sequences for Beo4 ?

Question 4: If I do a BL 3500 PL setup with a Beosound Overture Type 2636 S/n  134938xx  SW 2.1 are there any codes to invoke?

Remark: I don't succeded getting into BL Service Test Mode via Beo4 Menu 0 0 Go
Is there anything else I can do to check that my BL is alive?

I know I heavy - also about this -  but I hate to let it down because I like the BL 3500 design and the possibilities of the BL & Beo4 in my kitchen

When I read this thread, you are right, it`s bit confusing. I`d just get a BL converter 1611 (as already suggested), a Masterlink cable and an Audio Aux Link cable (7pin DIN). Connect the TV/AUX socket of your BM6500 to AUDIO AUX LINK socket on the BL converter via the 7pin DIN cable and connect the ML socket of the BL converter to your BL3500. Set your BM6500 to A.OPT 1(audio option) and your BL3500 to L.OPT (link option) 5. Now you have a Beolink system with a mainroom and link room - you can listen to and control all audio sources in the main room and in the link room. I`m not quite sure, if the BL3500 will display the time, as usually time information will come from the Beovision (videomaster). In addition you can use an MCL systen with your extra speakers kit(s) connected to SPEAKERS2 socktes on the BM6500. this is a passive system for passive Beovox speakers (CX, Redline...) and it will use the BM6500 amp.

Hope this helps

Stefan

Hi Stefan

Is this a solution approved by you or a theoritical prposal?

I can get a 1611 fairly cheap, but prefer the cable solution if this could work

I am quite sure, that this is ‘approved’ by Stefan.

It is also approved (I did suggest it above) and currently also used by myself at home.

And it is a classic ‘old-school-multiroom’ solution - or rather a combination of two solutions from B&O.

This way a lot of B&O owners have used their gear for a long time...and some still do.

So don’t worry!

Should you run into problems setting this up (option settings etc) you can be sure to get help on the forum.
