Guy:

Bathroom sockets were also present in my last three homes in Denmark, Germany and here in Romania.  You can actually have a mains socket in your bathroom in UK, as long as its 3 metres from your 'zone 1' shower or bath.  Get a bigger bathroom! Smile

Or a portable speaker you can take in when needed. Who on earth has a plugged in fixed speaker in their bathroom? Just seems odd to me.

Hello

Sorry for the delay cannot reply quickly without the app.

I always wanted music in the bathroom since I was an early teenager and my friends parents had their 9500 playing in the kitchen and bathroom.

This little speaker could be on a small corner shelf / wall bracket with the power cable coming out of the back and going up into the ceiling outside of the room.

The other option would be a small set of ceiling speakers controlled by an essence but feels like a large expense for background music.

Anyway I love the little speaker I think it covers a gap in the market by giving multiroom in an entry level device.

I do :-) a M5 to stream my favorite radio or to join a multiroom, It brings color into your morning start!

The M3 will not do the job unfortunately as it has no local sources.

Ditto.

Also, the M3 is front directional. I wonder if it would be possible for B&O to add stereo pairing later on?

This little ‘speaker’ could be very usefull with WiSA built-in.

Another product, yes - but just a speaker that could easily be used as back-/surround-/height speaker in a multichannel BV setup.

In its small thick full aluminum case, I see it more than a CX50 (CX100) successor than a BL4000 son...

My fault, stopped my reading too early .... so if it has the timer function too (I guess software will be the same than the Mx,Ax), then I could go for it in the Bathroom and move the M5 elsewhere as it is still too "bassy" for a small room.

I’ve just listened to it(Adele) and you could hear it struggling with some of the bass. It’s big brother had no such problems whatsoever.

Though a different product. - it would be interesting to compare this to a BeoPlay S3 soundwise.

By the way — it funny that there is no Spotify Connect support on the M3.

I wonder if it is even possible to join-in from a Spotify Connect experience started on another NL-device?

With regard to the discussion regarding having B&O speakers plugged in a bathroom: take a look at page 13 of the new Bang & Olufsen Magazine issue 6. It shows a woman luxuriating in a bubble bath with an M5 on a ledge right behind and above her head. OMG. This looks like the beginning of a "Six Feet Under" episode!

Yeah, but the M5 is wireless, so if it falls in the bath it will just stop working.

What are you talking about? The M5 is not battery powered. It's connected to an outlet.

Oh, I thought it was portable. I guess I misread the opening description on their homepage: "BEOPLAY M5 Wireless speaker that fills your home with music."

Wireless to me implies the device has no wires. And that includes power.

Neither the A9 or A6 are described as "wireless". Apologies for misunderstanding the term "wireless".

I would also like to know this...  Just at first glance I would think the S3 would be the better speaker, especially with the ability to link for stereo sound at less than half the price...

There is definitely no support for Spotify Connect on the M3 - not on mine at least and not with the recent firmware.

(This could change, I hope)

And you can not join into an ongoing Spoify Connect session playing somewhere else on the NL.

That leaves you with Chromecasting and airplaying, which isn’t bad either.

Awkward for Spotify users - for the Deezer users amongst us, it should not matter.

But still funny - now that the other NL devices have support for Spotify Connect.....and I’d like to know the reasons?

Comparing the M3 and the S3 is a bit like comparing apples and oranges.

However, if you are limited to use bluetooth, the S3 probably should be the first choise.

Hello MM

Congratulations with the M3!

Can you post some pictures of your new M3 in a ‘real life’ setting?

I am also interested in reading your opinion on the sound quality as I am thinking of buying one for my wife’s study. Her buying criteria are: Wink

- easy to use

- stable; no setup hassle

- decent sound quality in a 14 m2 room

We currently have a Sonos Play 3 in the study, so that’s the competition to beat!

I am also interested to understand how Deezer Hifi behaves in a multi room setup. Can you activate a Deezer stream on one device (eg. Essence in the kitchen ) and a different stream on another device ( eg the M3 in the study)? Or does Deezer Hifi only allow one stream?

Thank you for your feedback!

Jan

I bought a M3 on the launch date and i am pleased with it. I bought for my sons room, around 10 sqm but ended up putting it in the bathroom where we have a an M5. The M5 is now in my sons room instead.
The M5 has always been to "bassy" in the bathroom. This is cured with the M3. Being used to the M5 360 degreee sound the Me is more narrow in its sound. As it is placed in the far corner it is not really a problem. Its wide enought to cover the whole room from there. For its size it sounds good. At least as good as my freinds "soundsticks" from Bose, Sonos, Samsung etc.

I chose black with alu. Everything else i have from Beoplay is natural with cloth. The alu cover is nice and i find that it will be easy to keep it clean.

Beware that the M3 has the soft touch feeling on the plastic case. I think it is going too peel over time like a lot of things with this coating does over time.
I am thinking of VW/Audi that did this to the handles inside their cars in 2000-2010. I think the Beolab 3 has the same coating.

The button to turn it on and off is easier to use in daily life than the M5. Im not sure i really miss the "skip track" function of the M5. I didn't use it and lets be hones.. My phone is almost always in reach.

The M3 is exactly what i needed from Beoplay. It is low priced, it supports B&O Multiroom and it is what i need to fill music in to all those places that is nice to have.. The M5, A6, A9 and the Beolabs are for the "need to have music".

Mind that you can get a original wall bracket for the M3. I can see myself investing in a natural M3 for the wall in my hallway - welcoming people in to my home.

The price was 2300 Dkr. The M5 was 4500 if i remember correctly. So almost 50% off.

About Deezer:

I can choose my kitchen speaker, and then a track. Then i can choose the bathroom speaker and another track. I don't know if there is a upper limit i have not used more than two tracks at the same time given the size of our house. But if my phone is in the kitchen my wife kan start music in the bathroom, a playlist/album/artist from my phone while i use the phone to listen to what i want in the kitchen. I guess that is the answer you wanted?

One might think so - and I have never heard of that.

However, with the right firmware it should be possible - like with the other BT speakers.

But - if, then this will only be in BT mode, I suppose.

We’ll have to wait and see what comes.

Sure, there are those, who will  just use it as a BT device.

To me it is a NL device for a B&O multiroom setup....

.....and is also intended to be so from B&O.

Another thing mentioned there is not true - or only true, if you twist the thruth.

The M3 definitely (as of now) has no support for Spotify Connect.

Of cource you can cast from Spotify.

But that is different, although it could be more usefull, if you want to group more Cast devices (also non B&O devices) in your home.

Nice pictures there - much better than those, that I made and chose not to post.

It indeed is a very nice little speaker - the sound is for what it is absolutely ok!

The NL capacities makes it more than worth the money IMO.

One example - starting a Deezer stream there makes it possible to join-in on/expand to a NL tv like the V1/11/Avant MK1...without having to use the app on the tv.

It is the small NL music system/speaker, that I have been waiting for - in my user case even a M5 would be too ‘big’/too much in the room, where it is.

As with the other NL music systems/speakers you can configure the ‘start button’ e.g. to start Tunein. You can also use the usual timer functions with it.

Is the Essence Remote working with this speaker?

Thinking of buying one to get multiroom with an A6 (on the other end of the same room), but how does multiroom work? Can i preset a default group? So when I start a song by using the Essence Remote it will play over the A6 and the M3? And will the Essence Remote then also control the volume of the grouped players?

But it will only control one of these devices - the one, that it is paired with.

In order to have both playing and to control both, you will have to use the Bang & Olufsen app.

Or simply start playback on the one with the remote and join in per touching the other.

Hello Mogelmose

thank you very much for your feedback! That was indeed the information I was looking for. You gave a good feeling about many of the questions I had. However, from your respons - and also from reading some "first impression" reviews, I have the impression that the M3 would be somewhat too small for the 14 sq.meter room I would place it in. It seems the M3 is closer to a Sonos Play 1 than to a Sonos Play 3.

Anyhow, this Friday, I am invited to my dealer for a Beolab 50 + Eclipse evening. Maybe the M3 will be there as well, so that I can get a better look at it "in the flesh"

I'll keep you posted,

Jan

You cannot set preset groups.

From the B&O app you select a device to be master and you decide what music to play. You can then add one or more other devices to join that experience.
