Hi guys,
After restoring my first Beogram 4002 type 5511 I recently acquired a second one which needs quite a lot of cleaning and lubricating.
Apart from that it also appears to have a mechanical/electronic problem, when I push the start button both motors start spining for about a second and I hear the relais of the carriage click but then it immediately stops and it seems to bounce back just a little bit.
The drive shaft is not stuck and I can manually rotate the shaft and arm to the middle. When I power the turntable on the arm moves back to its starting point without any problems.
I made a video https://youtu.be/uuzc8wVYSWQ , the noise you hear on the background is from the platter motor, it doesn't make a sound when the belt is installed.
Did not take it apart yet but would like to know if this is a common issue, mechanical/components failure...
I also don't find the correct service manual for a Beogram 4002 type 5511 , does anyone have a copy?
Thanks for all your help.
Kristof
I haven't ever come across a Type 5511 but from the video it looks similar to a 5515. Can you post more detailed photos of various parts of the internals?
I wouldn't continue to try and operate it like that. At first it looked like something is physically restricting it. Are all of the transport locks loosened? Looking at the video again it looks like the tangential drive motor rotates one direction, then quickly rotates the other. Something to try is to remove the belt for the tangential arm and try the test again. With the belt removed the transport can't move. See if the motor comes on and off as it does with the belt attached.
To check for some physical restriction try manually turning the drive screw to see if the arm assembly moves. If you feel any sort of restriction then stop and don't force anything. You will likely need to take the tangential arm assembly apart to see underneath. I would remove the assembly with the linear position scale. That way you can see and manually operate the start and stop switches as well as check if the linear position sensor lamp is working.

Thanks Sonavor for your reply , I really appreciate it.
Type 5511 is an European version and are quite common in Belgium and the Netherlands.
I'm not able to upload photo's on the website so I've created a slideshow on youtube https://youtu.be/LYPW_MmwRWU
, it's a bit silly but it works Is the 5511 more or less the same type as the 5515?
It's not a mechanical obstruction and transport nuts are loosened.
I removed the main pcb and cleaned the wire connectors. But that even made things worse.
When I push start the tangential drive motor and platter motor now spin for less than a second in one direction without belt installed.
Voltage on the tangential motor is only 0.36v., the arm light does workl.
Same thing when you manually turn the arm with the drive screw to the middle, the motor turns but on very low voltage.
I don't think the linear position sensor led lamp works.
So quite a lot of faults on this deck. Any ideas where to start ?
Thanks
Nice seasonal slide show .It appears the problem is electrical then. On this type of problem I always start with the simple components first so replace the electrolytic and tantalum capacitors then re-evaluate the problem. At this point in time they are overdue for replacement anyway. Also carefully inspect the wiring between boards again to see if there are any that are loose or broken.
Fortunately the electrical components you need to measure and change are easy to access on the Beogram.
Yes indeed lack of time and tools.
I have a working unit type 5511 in good shape and today I switched the main pcb boards, I installed the faulty one in the working BG and noticed that the tangial arm motor didn't run as expected, so I definitly think a recap is in place.
But I also noticed that the tangial arrm bulb underneath the deck came on in the working unit, so this 25v bulb is also not working in the faulty one.
I've red several older threads about this bulb but is a spare part in 2017 still available ? Just the bulb, not a led replacement.
Hi Kristof,
Martin (Dillen here on the forum) should be able to provide you with the correct bulb. You can send him a Beoworld Personal Message and ask him.
