I have a 3.5m x 7m living room that I am remodeling and kitting out. I don't have loads of money to throw at it but I would like to have a fairly decent sound.
I have a Beosystem 3 and Beosound 9000 that was connected to a pair of Penta mk2's. One of the Pentas has stopped working and both may need re-foaming and we have decided they are too big and have to go.
So will 4 Beolab 3's and a sub be enough to fill the room wit decent sound for TV (I'm not bothered about full balanced surround sound etc.) and more importantly, for music. I have linked speakers in all rooms downstairs so do not need to "fill the house" with sound, just the living room. I will need to buy the Beolab 3's.
Or would 4 Beolab 12's and a sub be better. I already have 2 Beolab 12's in another room that I can move and replace. They sound amazing in the 3.5m x 3.5m room. I know other speakers may be better but the size of the Beolab 3's would blend in or the Beolab 12's (on floor stands) fade into the background.
Any thoughts?

2 x pair of Lab 3 plus sub is a great set up - ran it at home for quite some time and was very impressed. All subjective of course, but worked well for me....

I have a friend who use a set up I advised to him in a bigger room than yours.
With a beosound 9000, a pair of beolab 8000 and a beoplay s8 without satellites. I was really impressed by the results.
of course 4 bl3 or a bl14 will be far enough.

Thanks for the suggestions. I think I'll go with the Beolab 3's as it seems they will be up to the job and fit in more easily than my Beolab 12's which are great in my sun room.
I found BL12s on floor stands not as good as on wall. I do have a pair with a BL2 and I like the sound for music and TV.
So I have taken the plunge and bought a pair of Beolab 3's (on floor stands) which arrived today. To say I'm impressed is an understatement! I think my plan for two pairs will be more than adequate for my needs (and the living room). I was worried about the bass levels but they sound really good and to my ears, I don't think I need a subwoofer.
At the moment they are plugged into my old Beocenter 1 to test and I can see that another pair will be perfect for me.
Thanks for your suggestions and Happy Christmas. I know mine will be
I think my Beolab 12's look better in my sun room than they would in my living room, so I'm not tempted to swap them with my Beolab 3's that arrived today. The 12's fade into the background but sound fantastic. They are running off a Wireless 1 as I didn't think of connections when planning the room so there was nowhere to run cables. It works fine so long as we're not using the microwave.
elephant: Congratulations on the BL3s ... looking forward to some pictures of them in due course

Well, it is just over a year on and we're still not done with the room re-model. We have bought a second pair of Beolab 3's for the room. It really sounds great in here now. Next is to have the carpet on the floor up and lay engineered oak, hiding all the cables running to each end if the room.
We have a Beosystem 3, 65" LG OLED, DVD 2, FireTV, Wireless 1, and Beosound 9000 all in an adapted teak sideboard. Who would have thought there were so many cables. Hopefully we can hide most of these with the unit and underfloor cabling.
We are hoping to panel out the wall with the TV on so that the cables are hidden better. Photos to follow.......eventually
