We're in a search for a preowned BV that can be an upgrade for our BV5, but still connect to and control the BS9000 so that we get the most out of our BL5s. The current wiring is ML between BV5 and BS9000, spdif/coax connected from BS9000 to BV5 and spdif/coax from there to the BL5s. PL of course as well. The BV5 is capable to send "CD-source-command" via PL to the BL5 when a CD command is selected and CD is is played on the BS9000. Ref: Martin's reply in this thread: http://archivedforum2.beoworld.org/forums/t/18234.aspx?PageIndex=1
The sound quality from the BL5 is significant better when playing CDs - digital - than playing music via PL. The "CD-source-command" makes the BL5 use the spdif source, allowing the BL5s to do the one and only D/A step.
We planned to buy the Eclipse, but since we then would not be able to get the most out of the BL5s, we are now looking for a preowned BV.
Therefore: Do anyone know if the BV 10-46 sends the CD-source-message to the BL5s when playing CD from a BS9k (or music from BS5) similar to the BV 7-55, BV 12, BV 9 which have the BeoSystem 3? Are there other fullHD BVs that also have this "CD-source-message" via PL feature?
BV Eclipse 65, BV5, BS Core, BL5, BL8000, BS9000, Beolit 12, A1, A2, P2, H8, H9i, H7, E8
Anyone knows if the BV 10-46 or BV 11-55 behaves like the Beosystem 3 versions of BV 7-55 / BV 9 / BV 12-65 wrt sending "CD source command" via PL?
Hi, I know for sure that it is ONLY Beosystem 3-based television that can send "data-information" with CD-command for the Beolab 5.
This means all plasmascreens with Beosystem 3 and Beovision 7-40 Mark 3-6 and Beovision 7-55 Mark 1-2).

Martin, this is very interesting, would this same solution work for BS9000 and Eclipse? I have the BS9000 in a different room from the Eclipse. So let's see if I understand you correctly...
The purpose of the PowerLink switch in this particular case is to send the "CD-source-command" from the BS9000 via PL to the BL5, nothing more. The PL is not used to send analogue sound to the BL5 from the BS9000. Setup: the connection might go like this: Eclipse (PowerLink speaker output) -> PowerLink switch input 1. BS9000 -> PowerLink input 2 -> PowerLink switch. PowerLink output -> BL5. If necessary, a BeoLink Passive Active also in the main room -> PowerLink . So the idea being that any equipment in the main room would pick up the CD command (either from the Eclipse, or from the speakers, or from the BeoLink Passive if that is necessary) and send this to the BS9000 in the other room. The BS9000 issues a "CD-source-command" via PL. This goes to the PowerLink switch (input PL2) and the default priority switching mode passes this command through to the BL5. The BL5 recognises the command and then listens to the digital input direct from the BS9000. In normal operation the BS9000 is silent. The logic of the PowerLink switch then takes the input from the Eclipse PL (PL1) and passes that through to the BL5. It means that for playing CDs only the BL5 would operate, not all the surround speakers nor the Eclipse sound bar.
Have I got that all right?
Question: Would the same occur if RADIO is selected, since the BS9000 is my radio source ie does the BS9000 issue the "CD-source-command" via PL when RADIO is selected? Would the same command be issued if the Aux input on the BS9000 is used?

If You buy a Beovision that not is capable of sending CD-command you can buy powerlink Switch (https://shop.oneremote.dk/en/product/oneremote-powerlink-switch/ ). If You have a Beosound 5 connected to the Beolab 5 you connect the both the powerlink from the TV and powerlink from the Beosound 5 to the Beolab 5. This switch will forward all data-information including the CD-command (You must use CD-command on the Beosound 5 for it to work!). You can also use a Beosound 9000 with the same purpose. This Powerlink Switch will solve this problem with not sending CD-command from TV to labs5. I have my self tried this and it works very well. Best RegardsMartin Ström
Thanks Martin, both for narrowing down our search for preowned BVs, and for the switch option that could/should work if we still decide to go for the Eclipse (or another BV), similar to Beer_Baron :-)
The insight and knowledge of Beoworld'ers are absolutely impressive!!
Hi, If you want another good tip to "use" this switch and you want an "extern" brand to feed the Labs5 with digital signal (Sonos or Auralic or other brand) You can do as follows:
1. You use the powerlink switch from Oneremote and connect powerlink cables both from your TV and Your Beosound 5 (you must use a Beosound 5 for this tip)
2. You connect a digital SPDIF coax-cable from the extern streamingproduct (other brand than B&O) to the labs 5.
3. To get the CD-command to work with Beolab 5 and activate the "digital IN" in the speakers use the Beo4-remote and press first "A.AUX" on the remote and after this you press "CD". Now the display in Beosound 5 shows A.AUX but the Beosound 5 sends the CD-command signal thru Powerlink cable from Beosound 5 thru the powerlinkswitch forward to the labs 5. You can not find this tip anywhere. It was just by trial and error from my self that I found this out. I have myself an Auralic Aries streamer with this connection and it works very well. You must press first A.AUX and then CD on Beo4-remote to get this to work.
You must put the Beosound 5 in option 1 also if you have a non ML Beovision (Eclipse, Avant or Beovision 14). The Beolab 5 must be in Option 0.

Brilliant, Martin! I have an Arcam DAC (optical input) currently connected to the BV via aux (and further via PL to the BL5s), and currently I activate the DAC by A.MEM or List+AV + A.MEM.
I tried now to activate the "CD" without actually starting CD playing on the BS9000, but it didn't work. So I think you are correct in that this workaround only works for Beosound 5.
I will definitely buy the PL switch if I end up with an Eclipse - in that case I should be able to have two setups; one CD stereo listening mode: Use spdif + PL connection from the BS9000 via the PL-switch to the BL5s, and one multiroom setup: Use aux-connection from the BS9000 to the Elipse (line in), and PL from Eclipse via PL-switch to the BL5 as well. That should work, hopefully ;-)
Great idea to use the Aux output like that for non-CD output. Question: does the BS9000 need to be set up to the in the same "room" (Option 1) as the BL5s (even if it is in a different room) so that when CD is played the data comes out the PL instead of the ML? Or is the PL always "on" no matter Option number?
Hi,
the Beosound 9000 sets the option automatically when powered! NO speakers or dummy plug connected => A.OPT 0.
Only if speakers connected (or dummy plug inserted) A.OPT 1.
The dummy plug is from a 5, 7 or 8 pin DIN Plug with PIN 2 and pin 4 shorted or better a small resistor of about 1K Ohms (1/4 W).
I don't know whether the powerlink switch supports this feature.

BeoET: I should be able to have two setups; one CD stereo listening mode: Use spdif + PL connection from the BS9000 via the PL-switch to the BL5s, and one multiroom setup: Use aux-connection from the BS9000 to the Elipse (line in), and PL from Eclipse via PL-switch to the BL5 as well.
Why are you using the aux-connection in this way? Why not use the second PL connection to the Eclipse, or the ML?
I found the following information in the BL90 manual:
Bang & Olufsen audio products that are able to send the audio signal on an S/P-DIF output additionally send the volume setting on the data connection included in the Power Link cable. This is used for various reasons. One primary example of this is current customers who connect a BeoSound 9000 to a pair of loudspeakers such as BeoLab 5’s or BeoLab 90’s via a S/P-DIF digital connection. Since the BeoSound 9000 does not apply volume regulation to the S/P-DIF output, the volume setting must be sent separately on the Power Link cable and applied to the audio signal inside the loudspeaker instead.
RaMaBo: Hi, the Beosound 9000 sets the option automatically when powered! NO speakers or dummy plug connected => A.OPT 0. Only if speakers connected (or dummy plug inserted) A.OPT 1. Are we talking about two different things? The Beosound manual talks about several options for integrating in a multi room setup:
BeoSound 9000 has five different option settings:
Option 0. Used in a one-room AV setup. This Option is selected automatically if no speakers (or headphones) are connected directly to theBeoSound 9000.
Option 1 (factory setting). Used when the BeoSound 9000 is used on its own, or when it is connected to active speakers in an AV integrated setup.
Option 2. Used when the BeoSound 9000 is set up in one room and connected to a video system set up in another room.
Option 5. Used when the BeoSound 9000 is set up in a link room which also comprises a Bang & Olufsen television.
Option 6. Used when the BeoSound 9000 is set up in a link room without a Bang & Olufsen television.
Beer_Baron: BeoET: I should be able to have two setups; one CD stereo listening mode: Use spdif + PL connection from the BS9000 via the PL-switch to the BL5s, and one multiroom setup: Use aux-connection from the BS9000 to the Elipse (line in), and PL from Eclipse via PL-switch to the BL5 as well. Why are you using the aux-connection in this way? Why not use the second PL connection to the Eclipse, or the ML?
I thought that one had to use a "PL DIN to Aux" adapter to connect the BS9000 to the "L/R in" / Aux on the Eclipse? But I'm not sure, since we haven't decided yet if we should go for a new Eclipse or for a preowned BV 12-65 / 7-55 / 9 (Beosystem 3 variant). BS900 cannot be connected and controlled by the Eclipse via ML, AFAIK. If it could, the decision to buy the Eclipse would have been much much easier !
Great thread; I am also thinking about replacing my current tv with an Eclipse and would like to keep my BS9000 feed the BL5 digitally.
I understand the proposed setup using the switch, but have one question regarding the speaker modes triggered.:
- Currently I often have my tv on for picture only and listen to a CD at the same time (great to watch sports without comment and enjoy a good CD at the same time). I do this by: Select TV first and next select link-CD. When doing this; the speaker mode automatically changes from 5 channels to 2 channel stereo.
Is this still possible with the proposed switch solution? If so: how would I need to achieve this (mode settings, operation)?
Regards,
Dennis
Hi, If You have an Eclipse and the switch with Beosound 9000 You can have the Eclipse ON and also listen to music. If you start the tv, you will start it with Beoremote one which is not in IR- mode. It is paired with the Eclipse. This means that if you have both the Beoremote ONE for the eclipse and a Beo4 for the Berosound 9000 and put the BS9000 on/off with the Beo4-remote. In this way you can steer both the tv and and besound 9000 at the same time but with different remotes. Of course You can put the Beoremote in "IR-mode" but it is more convinient to use two remotes, Beoremote one for the TV and Beo4 for the 9000. The 9000 is IR-controlled and the Eclipse is not IR controlled.
So when You combine an Eclipse with older B&O-gear which IR controlled the older B&O gear live in their "own" world remote-wise. You must put the BS 9000 in Option 1 to achieve this to work.

Thx Martin for the quick an clear reply. One question for clarification: Why is it more convenient to use 2 remotes? I would prefer a 1 remote solution. Is it possible to program the remote to select 2 speaker mode and turn on the bs9000 with 1 or 2 button touches?
