Hi there,

When I play a record on my Beocenter 7007 the needle of the MMC5 doesn't drop down fully:

The result is a very distorted signal. When I gently blow against the needle it drops down as per below and the sound is good:

Any idea what this could be? And how I can prevent this from happening?

Many thanks in advance,

Boj

Bad cantilever suspension.
Known problem.
Have it re-tip'ed. It'll be like new again.

And you can upgrade it when you get it retipped. The innards of the MMC1-5 range are all the same so you can turn it into an MMC2 for much less than a new MMC2 would cost you.

Thanks for your answer Peter. Any idea where I can do this and how much this would cost?

Soundsmith in the US

Audio Origin in the UK

Pickupservice in Denmark

Franz-Joseph in Germany

Prices found on their respective websites.
You get what you pay for, and if you go for the best you should buy the best, but it's my experience that even the cheaper types are
quite good value for money.

I have long preferred Franz-Joseph, never had any problems and I have a bunch of cartridges by him at present,

but his turn around time seems to have grown to more than a year. At least that's as long as it has taken until now.

www.schallplattennadeln.de

or better

www.tonabnehmerservice.de

Is Franz-Joseph.

I send a MMC in the end of october/beginning of november, and it is ready for delivery.

So around 6 weeks, not a year ;-))

Good for you.
I sent nineteen cartridges in last august.
Got four back in late september this year.
Still fifteen remaining.
So a year - at least.

And I'm not the only one waiting.
