V1 is sold as an entry level TV without Beosystem 3 and all it's possibilities. But how well would a V1 function in a cinema setup with a projector?

I consider buying a BluRay player with dual HDMI out. If I connect one HDMI to the V1 and one HDMI to the projector my first thought is that I could make something very close to a Beosystem 3 powered cinema setup?

I do not own a V1 but I may get one to replace my 7-40 mk.3 if I can make it work in a cinema setup. The audio setup options seem much more advanced in the V1?

I am considering doing exactly this - I have a V1 and would like to split the source and just use the V1 for the sound (with P.MUTE) enabled. My only concern would be the audio latency of the V1, so it would only work with sources that had some type of offsetting capability. I think it could work very well if so!

Is it possible to configure the HDMI ports so that they transmit the video signal?

Sadly not.

Some blu-ray players have dual HDMI out, so you can route audio through the tv and video directly to the projector. However this will not allow you to watch a TV signal on your projector. Then you would need an external tuner too.

I may live with that, since it typically is Blu Ray movies I am watching in cinema mode.

Hi, that may be considered as "the poor man's B&O-home cinema-solution".

In fact not a bad solution - by far not as comfortable as "the one and only original B&O-solution", but could very well be used.

You need a bluray-player with dual HDMI-out (one for the V1 and one for the projector).

Take a look at the new OPPO (http://www.oppodigital.com/blu-ray-bdp-103/), if you would like watch content from an external tuner. The HDMI-in makes it possible to route an external source to the tv.

Make sure that the OPPO is PUC-controlled!

On the V1 you just have to mute the picture, and yiu will only get the sound from it and the BeoLabs.

Enjoy!

@millemissen actually oppo was exactly what i had in mind. i am very excited to see the new version offers two hdmi in.

can anyone tell me if i can set multiple audio "scenes" like beosystem 3's tv and cinema settings? i rotate 90 degrees to watch the projector. also is it possible to create a phantom center channel?

Take a look here:

http://www.beoplay.com/~/media/ManualsPDF/2012_05_01_V1/Technical%20Sound%20Guide.pdf?dmc=1&ts=20121002T2112234569

I am not sure if theV1 can handle all these advanced settings - we need a Beoworld-V1-expert or your dealer to answer that.

In your case you would need 4 identical BL's - the center could be a problem.

By the way, maybe you should wait for the soon coming BV11 - there might be more option there?

Millemissen:

I love documentation and this is particularly good. Gives a hint that B&O is actually ahead of most others this time. Thanks for the link.

i agree. this doc is really good. i am very impressed with the capabilities in the new engine. the mapping of input channels to speakers is very clever. i cant tell if it will create a phantom center by downmixing to the fronts. but it seems it has very advanced up- and downmix options.

what i like the most is the bass management. its really great that your most capable speakers in the room can act as subwoofers. brilliant b&o!

Interesting documentation indeed, which, I think, will cause even more confusion & setup issues because of the complexity of the new setup menus!

I preferred the older systems where you only had to setup your speaker type, number, and distance, with the processor doing the math..If I read all the possibilities of this new processor, it will take me a month to find the right setting to watch a movie..and this is not what I expect from B&O. Honestly, I hate having to tweak those settings, I'd have preferred a simple microphone being delivered with the TV, and it would have done the rest of the settings itself (like a BeoLab 5, for instance).

On another note, there's a few interesting info in this guide: on page 19, you can read that:

for example, a BeoLab 5 has much more potential to deliver low frequency content than a BeoLab 2 subwoofer

The V1 can, but a lot of users won't be willing to read a lot tech descriptions just to set up a TV.
Unfortunately you need to understand all that stuff to handle all this advanced settings properly.

For good reasons this manual and the corresponding settings are a bit concealed ...

Great manual!

My understanding of the different sound systems and speaker positioning has just increased 100%, (although I'm still a 30 degree stereo speaker user)

You don't have to read this documentation to use the V1.- just read the Usermanual (page 24)  http://beoplay.com/~/media/ManualsPDF/2012_05_01_V1/Beoplay_V1_guide/beoplay_V1_guide_EN.pdf?dmc=1&ts=20121003T0935313778#page24

But if you want to discover and use these advanced possibilities, the documentation is very helpfull.

Alternatively you could let your dealer do the job - which probably will cost you some money :-(

You can use the V1 out of the box - most people will use it that way.. But if you desire to have a surround-setup (5.1/7.1) combined with a seperate group for music listening....and you want to use your BL in differnt ways depending on the source (for tv-listening or music-listening....), you will have to do some "tweeking".

my idea is to not have 4 speakers of the same type, eventhough i will be rotating 90 degrees. i will setup 2 bl5s and 3 bl3. in tv mode two bl3 are fronts in cinema mode the bl5s are fronts and one bl3 will idle whle the other two work as surround speakers.

with the new av platform introduced in v1 it seems i can even use the bl5s as subwoofers together with my bl3 tv fronts. that is a lovely thought, i think.

To kimchr:

That would be rotating 180 degrees.

How/which way round  would  you listen to music?

No not 180 degrees, only 90. Please see my sketch below. Dotted circles are speakers playing in cinema mode. Full circles are playing in tv mode. Notice how there is no center in cinema mode.
