Hi I've got the chance to acquire the above tv. It is quite far away so I just wanted to know what the picture quality is like?  What was the difference between a mk3-4?

Cheers

Moxxeys your man.

I Had a mk3 which was quite good with awesome sound. The 10-46 I recently got is has a better picture by a significant margin. I think Moxxey stated his 10 was comparable to his mk 4.

I think the mk3 is the minimum starting place, but if you can afford the extra for the mk 4, your buying into newer technology.

Beosound Stage, Beovision 8-40, Beolit 20, Beosound Explore.

Hey Chris thanks for the reply. I thought that I had read on here that someone had said that there mk4 was as good as theyre bv10. You dont see many mk 4 for sale I wonder why that is?

Cheers

Because they are still current I guess. I still covert the 7-40 and 55 every time I visit my local store. The complete B&O package and in my view the best picture and sound as well.

Beosound Stage, Beovision 8-40, Beolit 20, Beosound Explore.

Apologies, I've been drifting on and off the board for the last month. Lack of time, mostly. And Elephant answers every single forum post, I've noticed, making everyone else redundant :)

Yes, the MKIV offers a superb picture. Was my first BV7 with a picture I regard as all-round excellent. My previous MKIII was dark and gloomy for PS3 and certain movies and people used to remark on the black level (too black!). MKIV was a major improvement and it is still comparable to my 2011 BV10-46. How it compares to the forthcoming BV11 is another matter. I expect the BV11 to be a step up again and am seriously considering trading in the BV10-46 against the BV11-55. How "serious" is to be decided.

In many ways the MKII was better than the MKIII as the MKIII was the first to bring in the 1080p panel, so SD looks far better on the MKII than the MKIII, so if you do not have HD, the MKII might be a better short term solution.

And jolly useful the pair of you are! Big Smile When this forum first started many years ago, I felt I was the only person who ever answered anything! And to a degree, I was correct. What we did however was make sure everything got an answer in 24 hours - unlike the official website which died as no-one ever answered anything except to criticise B&O! Smile I am delighted that we now have a huge number of members willing to share their knowledge as my own knowledge of the new equipment is sadly lacking!!

2012martin:

Hi moxxey. You say a mk11 is better in sd than a mk111.

Yes, simply because SD is transmitted at 576 lines, meaning that little upscaling was required on the MK2 panel. With the introduction of the 1080p panel in the MKIII, the picture needs to be upscaled, pixels become larger, thus more obvious. So, at the time, if SD was your source, moving "up" to the MK3 from the MK2 resulted in a worse picture for many users as they had no access to a HD source at the time.

Not particularly. Put it this way, it's pretty much the same panel as in my BV10-46 and certain SD channels, such as fast-moving football, is almost unwatchable, compared to the same picture in HD. Basic static programmes such as a news channel is usually fine though.

But why by such a large screen to watch SD? Even (free) Freeview here in the UK now broadcasts primary channels in HD.

Peter you are the exemplar we all strive to emulate, but like you I am starting to feel the tide of technology is sweeping past me ... but let's see what tomorrow's morning brings us in the way of surprises !
