I have what I think is an interesting question….. well interesting to me in any case.
Anyone who has followed any of the threads I have contributed to knows that my BeoCenter 9000 has a capacitor issue with the CD drive.
This is a given, however I tried to get this BeoCenter of mine to play several CD-R discs I just received from the UK with absolutely no success.
So I put a standard CD in the CD player and it then refused to play that as well recognizing only the 1 track which had been available with the CD-R discs. Several different standard CD’s were refused until I decided to trick the CD player by choosing track 7.
It was like I surprised the CD player and it figured what the heck, looked for track 7 and then played it. After this maneuver on my part the BeoCenter 9000 again will play any standard CD offered.
Merely out of curiosity, any ideas what happened here?

sometime I think you make those things up for our amusement and to test if we know anything at all (just joking ;)
I'd suggest that your BC 9000 has been taking Mickey
it would have to do with "buffer memory" where the unit remembers what has been presented to it and positions of tracks, once cleared it becomes like me - don't remember s..t and happy to oblige....

Thanks for the humorous answer. Truth is, I didn’t pose it as a serious question, as the problem will remain a failing capacitor, but I DID find it intriguing that the CD-R set it off to where it wouldn’t play any CD’s at all.
Only when I asked it to play track 7, when it only “believed” there was 1 track, and it searched and found track 7 did everything clear up.
Be assured, weird as this sounds, I didn’t make it up.

In fairness I haven't tried on any of my B&O's CD-R's assuming they won't work :)

You know I always have fun with the BeoWorld forums and my question about the BeoCenter 9000 was more out of morbid curiosity that anything else.
I have a technical problem; a capacitor that needs replacement and this is a given.
What intrigued me was this BeoCenter is that it has what I find interesting quirks in that it does not tolerate not being used daily. If I use it a bit every day the CD player works fine. If I leave it sitting for a couple of days, it rebels with repeated refusals to play a disc.
I am forced to keep trying different tracks until I find the one it likes and problem solved. One it plays one track it will play them all, but ONLY if I use it regularly.
Now on top of the above quirk, which I find more amusing than annoying is what happened with the CD-R disc. I tried half a dozen discs and the 9000 stubbornly refused to play them.
OK, I had had enough of that, so I put in a standard CD and I was floored that the 9000 now refused to play it either. I tried several different CD’s, but nothing was going to get this beast to budge.
I then turned the 9000 off and let it sit a bit, but that had no affect either.
At this point I felt “challenged” so before the 9000 could reject the CD I selected track 7. Well the 9000 was stuck on showing only one track and it hesitated….. next thing I know all numbered tracks appeared, 7 was blinking, and MUSIC!
I then removed the CD, replaced it and hit track 4 and no problem. I selected several different tracks, but the problem was solved.
My interest was/is if anyone has any idea of WHY this occurred. There maybe no answer to this other than I have a bad capacitor, but I feel there maybe more of an explanation than that.
If not, I tried. This is a lighthearted query and it doesn’t hurt to ask a question, so I have.

I find that some of CD players have good taste in music, some don't...
beside some players skip on absolutely clean and even new (be honest don't remember buying 1 of those in ages - usually charity shops) ones and than happily plays CD which is scratched beyond recognition - plain mystery.....
my DVD 1 is the most persistent and don't make fuss about anything I present (but even had said that it's not always) ;)
Just make me laugh when I remember adds promoting CD's as indestructible (breakfast CD and others) at their start.
Nevertheless, as I've said earlier the answer will be somewhere within the logical circuit and buffer (when CD is inserted, the internal "master record" containing its type, content, number and lengths of track is read and stored), shall there be (as you know there is in your case) issue with power supplied, it can easily become quiet unpredictable.
The issue with daily portion of love or no play is more puzzling to be honest and I'm sure it'll turn out to be something so simple, that it would make all of us laugh.
Here's an example: year before last I was diagnosing and repairing BMW K75 with electrical problem, everything was fine and all measurements up to scratch, but no spark, ignition system taken of the bike and modelled on table - working perfectly, no issues with ground on bike with or without...
After about 3 days (needless say almost without sleep) and changing all parts 1by1 again and again, referring to manuals and advice on forums it did looked pretty dim.
After that I've had revelation in sleep and dismantled connector from Hall effect sensor from ICU unit and tried bridge it wire by wire, and there it was shy spark appeared at last (nowhere, not the most experienced guys on BMW forums anyone ever stressed that cable shield - which isn't even noted in manual can earth the signal and hence hall effect won't occur) .
To finish the story on even more negative note.... he he I've restored the bike and everything was working, but sprung clutch decided not to co-operate, hence starting it became extremely tricky and unreliable, despite there wasn't anything mechanically wrong with it all) and I've to sell it.
In my health condition I cannot push bike around especially not such a mid weight beast.... I was lucky though and sold just to cover my cost.
Hope this will cheer you up a bit, even if it doesn't explain in anyway the issues you're having (it seem there isn't any technophobic expert around)
