Hi all,
I just got a pre owned pair BL5. Apparently the BL5's had been stored for several years (not sure how many). When I hook up mains power, the leds shine red on both units stay and stay illuminated constantly.
With a Beo4, I set the BL5's to "Option 1" and the led does turn from red to green for a second and then goes back to red again. According to the manual, this is exactly what is supposed to happen. I press the "Radio" button to try to turn on, but the led will flash green and then go back to solid red again. (Doesn't turn on)
As I try to launch the calibration by touching the pad, the led will flash rapidly indicating that I'm touching it, but it would not start the calibration process when I let go.
I've done some searching on this forum and according to the serial number my BL5 doesn't have the PIN lock feature.
I've looked at the manual and it doesn't list a "Always on red led" fault code.
Can anyone help?
The red led just means it has power but is off. If you want to turn them on, you actually need to send them the command to turn on.
For my Beolab 5’s, that means hitting radio (option 4)
Once on, they will stay on until they are turned off.
I forget what option 1 means...if you are using a non-B&O preamp, then keep in mind that the speakers will need to be “set” at a certain volume, which you should store (using the store sound command) and then you can use your preamp to set volume. And don’t forget your sync cable.
Strange, on a beolab 5 the led is always red on stand by and green when used.
Last time the led was blinking red was when I launched a calibration and then stupidly I used my hoover. Of course the calibration process failed due to the noise and I have been surprised to see my beolab 5 with the led red blinking. It is written in the manual.
I hope you have tested them before buying. Otherwise it seems you bought a defect paar, the calibration doesn't work, that is surely a problem into the amp as it also doesnt stay on green led.
When the calibration is not possible, it is due to a serious issue which is logical.
Checked your cable first.

Correct me if I am wrong, the command radio is normally for the digital input. i use the powerlink input and I don't need to select any command, the tv manage them.
Test them with the powerlink input or your digital source, maybe the bl5 detects no coming sound and goes to stand by.
My serial numbers start with 175 and I've read somewhere that the PIN function started at 177. The manual I have is a print from the B&O support website and is for a later production BL5 as it mentions the PIN function.
It also says that on 'Standby' mode the red LED is supposed to only stay on for a while before shutting off. Do the old ones remain red lit even on standby?
Option 1 is for non B&O sources. I am going directly from SACD to BL5 via co-ax.
With or without a source hooked up the BL5's behave the same.
Pressing 'Radio' briefly turns the led green but it then defaults to red again.
I'm speculating here, but is it possible that the internal memory has been lost because the RAM battery died?
I've done more searching here and have come across posts where the OP mentioned that one of his pair had suddenly stopped working and the fix was to get a B&O service person download the software again.

I have no idea if that is true or not. I just followed the BL5 manual.
I can't use Powerlink for obvious reasons.
I did try playing a CD to see if the BL5's would "auto turn on" (it didn't) but I don't remember if I pressed 'Radio" when the music was playing. Will try that later.
Tried playing music and hitting the "radio" button did nothing.
Tried using co ax digital in and pressing the "radio" did nothing either.
I reconnected the power today just for fun and mysteriously the BL5's now work.
I have no idea what happened, but they work and I'm not complaining!
