Hi Everyone,

a quick question: does the beomaster 3400 have a built-in RIAA preamp for the turntable?

My understanding was that there is a preamp at the stereo phono input, but not at the 4-channel phono input (since the assumption was that the Beogram 3400 will amplify the signal through the CD4 demodulator). However it does not seem to work on my BM3400 — should I be looking into repairing a built in one or am I mistaken and should be looking into setting it up with an external phono preamp?

Thanks and Merry Christmas!

The Phono 2 input has RIAA
The Phono 4 input doesn't.

But your Beomaster could have been modified.

Thank you, Martin, it is great to hear from the expert.

The user manual I found online indeed states that there is a low impedance input with 3.2-2.6 mV/47kOhms, so that is what I assumed. However, I plugged in a turntable into Phono 2 and I get a typical no-preamp sound: tiny and squeaky. The turntable is not B&O, it is a vintage Pioneer with a modern, basic MM AudioTechnica AT95E cartridge, with an output of 3.5 mV, so something is indeed not working properly. I will take a look to see if any DIY modifications could have been made in mine.

Thanks again!
