1st Prize - Bang & Olufsen BeoSound 5 Music System

A BeoWorld First this Christmas as we've never given one of these away before! All yours for the most agreeable price of absolutely nothing if you win First in the Christmas Draw!

….the Lucky, Lucky, LUCKY (and did I say Lucky) Fabulous Festive Winner is…

Mr Peter Sch_fr (iPoditiv) from Bielefeld, Germany (I'm sure his surname isn't 'Sch_fr' but that's what the Gentleman has put on his membership records?!!)

So... Germany with the 'One-Two' this Christmas, ONE PERSON with the 'Three-Four' and the rest scattered all over the globe in true BeoWorld Style.

Anyway - amazing.. and all for the price of a months Gold Membership - you  just can't get this anywhere else!! Enjoy your new Bang & Olufsen Sch_fr!

Within about 90 days Wink you will see the integration in my bike.

About my nick:

I started with iPoditiv, which is still my login name for BeoWorld. But as I joined the famous WedThread I had to change to a new nick, because iPoditiv would have caused a constant whooping offence against the Wedrools (tm) (no mentioning of any device by B&O or Apple etc.)

My dealer in Bielefeld offers me assistance if I have any problems installing my new BeoSound 5 ... Thumbs Up

Congrats mate, I still love my BS5. I think it is a fantastic product that could have had a lot more presence and usage than we see today. But it is a great B&O product and maybe the last B&O music system with amazing aluminium handcraft and mechanical engineering.

Exactly ! (Thanks Tim for the tip) Laughing

Funny (source Wikipedia) :

Official response

The City council of Bielefeld tries hard to generate publicity for Bielefeld and build a nationally known public image of the city. However, even 17 years (or more) after the conspiracy started, the mayor's office still received phone calls and e-mails which claimed to doubt the existence of the city.

In 1999, five years after the myth started to spread, the city council released a press statement titled Bielefeld gibt es doch!(Bielefeld does exist!) on April Fools' Day.

I can attest to its existence...

In 2012 after meeting Peter (in Struer) we drove past it’s sign posted turnoff on the autobahn....

So that means it exists...

Doesn’t it?

Yes... You've just won TWO IN A ROW !!  Unbelievable !!! The draw is completely random and you get a new chance for EVERY Prize. It doesn't happen often - but here's proof it can.

Random, but after years and years I stopped believing that I could ever be lucky enough to win anything in the price draw :(. I even stopped checking it. The changes are not even that slim with only 250 something gold members... right? Or do you have to be online during the draw to be able to win?

Congrats to the winners, especially the one with the Beosound 5.

Beosound 5 Encore + Beosystem 5500 + S45.2; BV7-40 MKV + BL7.1 + BL14.4+ AppleTV4; various link rooms with MCL2 A or MCL2 A/V + RL60.2 / CX100 / CX50 & Cona  / IWS2000; BG4000; Beosystem 1200 + BV1600.

I think the chances of being a winner are just under 15% over the course of a year if there are 250 gold members.

As follows:

40 individual prize draws each year (winning once does not preclude you from winning again)

Chance of winning each draw is 1/250.  Therefore chance of NOT winning an individual draw is 249/250.

Based on 40 draws the chance of not winning all of those is (249/250) to the power 40.  Or 0.852

Thus the chance of winning one (or more) draws is 1-0.852 = 0.148 Or 14.8%

I think this was one of most entertaining threads on the previous forum:

Needs updating for the current initial data, but the theory hasn't been changed since then. Smile

Ha.  Yes that thread is a good read (before my time on Beoworld).  There's nothing quite like a discussion on statistics or probability to generate 7 opinions from a randomly selected group of 6 people.

Reading the old thread I just got the answer to all questions via radio: The winner takes it all. Whistle

Clearly more beoworlders who would like to win but blame statistics for not getting any :)

Today I wanted to check the delivery status of my prize and was interrupted by an inhouse telephone call: "You got a parcel."

The BeoSound 5 and BeoMaster look brand new. To find out that it was used before, you have to look inside the wall mount to see the tiny traces of the fastening screws.

Now I have to install the system ...

The two guides on the B&O site are detailed enough to be helpful ...

Alive and playing ...

At first I opened the package, put everything on the floor carpet, read the fine manuals, took out the BeoSound Essence, cables the BeoMwdia 5 and Oops! The BeoMedia asked for a power link plug and the essence had a R45 plug. I checked the cable and I pulled off the power link adapter.

Next step: connecting to the BS 5. It works. The radio stations are up to date. Some 150GB of music stored by the previous owner with a good taste are stored on the 500GB hard disk.

Next step: attaching to the wall. I decided to buy a table stand (the last Mohican) at the latest official B&O price from my dealer (less than 200€).

Tools:

Now I do some listening.
