Thanks for the add to the forum here! I am trying to help my dad get his Beogram 5000 back in working order. I have done some looking here, but have not seen where the issues we are having are described exactly the same, please point me in that direction if it exists.
There appears to be an issue with the tonearm function in the unit. Problems being it will play the first thirty seconds or minute of a record but it will then begin to skip. Auto return seems to function properly however, it does not go all the way back to a rest position, landing an eighth of an inch or so past the disc. Finally, and perhaps this is the design, but there seems to be a certain amount of outboard pressure from the arm. That is, the arm does not seem to be laterally balanced.
We have gone through the steps described in the manual and elsewhere to balance the tonearm and then reset the proper tracking pressure.
Thank you in advance for any help you are able to offer!

Will it lift and lower properly?
Martin
Yes, the arm lifts and lowers without trouble. The "Cue" Function is in working order.
Check the needle - is it clean and not completely worn down?Check the tracking force - use a guage. If the cartridge has been retip'ed, it will typically need an additional 0.2-0.3g
