I recently got my hands on a beautiful Beogram 1800 (type 5213) in great condition but it just doesn't sound right.

In general it makes a VERY muted low volume sounds (I can hear it if I almost max the volume) and then every once in a while it sounds clearly and loudly (but only for maximum one second at a time) and it keeps flickering like this.

Weirdly enough it always sounds clearly just as I turn it off. Like the last second before the arm is lifted...

My amp/speaker setup works perfectly (thanks to some great helpful people here in the forum) together with my Beogram 1000 so the problem has to be somewhere with the turntable. I've even tried with another SP10 pickup but without any result.

Any ideas what the problem could be? Could it be the Din output that's loose somehow?

I can try to film the process tomorrow if that could make things clearer too?

Thanks so much in advance

/Levi

Sounds like a cartridge problem.
Perhaps a coil housing//stylus mismatch.

Hi Martin and thanks for your quick reply!

How do I best investigate that? I've tried with 3 different cartridges and they all give the same result...

Perhaps your Beogram 1000 has a built-in RIAA preamplifier and your Beogram 1800 haven't.

I run them both with an external RIAA-amplifier so I don't think that's the problem either. Hard nut to crack this one...

A missing signal ground connection?
