Hi Folks,

Brand new member with old 3400 turntable with questions on how to connect to Denon AVR S530 receiver with no phono inputs.

I have a Behringer microphono PP400 preamp connected to my turntable to boost the signal and the only available composite inputs are for Media Player and Cable. I have an Apple airplay on the Media inputs and it works fine but I get a "pairing" message when trying to play the turntable through the Cable inputs. I assume the AVR is trying to pair a (missing) video signal with the turntable signals. All I hear is loud humming noise. Turntable is grounded.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Hi, you need a preamp that is specifically designed for the phonograph RIAA equalization requirements. There are quite a few phono preamps on the market these days specifically for the application you are looking for (since modern amplifiers/receivers no longer have an RIAA preamp built in typically). Just Google phono preamp and you will find a bunch.

Thanks for the help. I do have a preamp installed. It is a Behringer microphono PP400 preamp to boost the signal. is there some other brand/configuration I should be looking at?

Sorry, I misread your post and thought it was a microphone amplifier but I see it is a phono amplifier. It will work fine. The Denon has two RCA analog audio input jacks doesn't it? You should be able to use that for your input.

I looked up your Denon connections and I think you have to use the Media Player inputs for the phono preamp. Since you already are using that input for your Apple Play then you might be able to use a bluetooth audio device like this.

I only have one true set of input jacks for the media player. The other set is part of the cable or satellite connection. Everything else is HDMI. It does seem that you could use these for sound only but the message I get is "pairing" and nothing but a loud hum.

I'll try this suggestion. Thanks!
