First, one happy and healthy year 2018.
I am very glad that I have been a member of this wonderful community for quite some years now.

I would ask you for advice.
I want to connect  my beolink passive type 1657 directly to Samsung TV or another device to run non B & O passive speakers. Not conncted to IR eye !

Turn the amplifier ON and OFF automatically with TV set.

Does anyone have a DIY  plan to do this?

Thanks :)

You need two things:

- A variable volume output from the TV:  Modern TVs often have this via L/R phono sockets at the rear, but you might need to configure them in the TV menu to be variable rather than fixed output.  If no phono sockets, perhaps use the headphone output, if it has one.

- Something to trigger the Powerlink connection in the MCL2P/Passive: I think it is PIN 4 (yellow) that needs to receive >2.5V.  I can think of two options to supply this:

- If the TV has a USB socket, you could use take the USB power connection (5V) on PIN 1 and run that to the PL socket to trigger the amp.  It's discussed briefly here: http://archivedforum2.beoworld.org/forums/t/16629.aspx

- Or buy one of these from Sounds Heavenly! https://www.soundsheavenly.com/line-in-connection/101-singletwin-rca-to-beolab-2-7-10-2500-powered-trigger-kit.html  (He also does a minijack version).  As Steve mentions on his site, you'll need to use this together with some form of 'eco' remote sensing power switch (like this) in order to get the automatic on/off with the TV.

I hope this helps!

Did you manage to do this in the end? Some have warned of hum or noise. Did you experience any? Could you tell me how to wire up the DIN to phono/jack/USB cable please?

Hi,

Steve from Sounds Heavenly got a solution which will trigger a Beolink Passive or MCL2P. But as far as I know it includes a separate power supply and not any USB connector. But using a USB socket in the TV also creates a risk for 'humming'.

If you can do cables yourselves it ain't rocket science. And it won't cost much to test.

You can combine USB cable and RCA/Minijack cable with a 8 pin DIN.

USB +5V to pin 1 and 4

USB ground to pin 2 and 7

Audio ground to pin 2 and 7

Right channel to pin 5

Left channel to pin 3

Regards

R.

Thank you, this was precisely the sort of answer I was looking for.

I´ll be marrying the Beolink Passive amp to a Philips 762 preceiver (DIN) or to a digital radio (phono and jack outs) with a Genelec passive volume knob in between in the case of the latter. I´ve yet to decide which.

In either case, there won´t be a telly involved. The other end of the USB cable will be plugged in to an old Apple phone charger unless more englightened folk on here tell me no first.

Yes, I´ve mucked about with cables quite a bit in the past, so will give it a whirl. Thanks again.
