Hi everyone.
I was fortunate enough to get a pair of H9s for Christmas and the experience thus far has been great.
Yesterday, however, I was unable to turn on bluetooth mode. The headphones work perfectly when wired, but when they are not, I simply cannot make Bluetooth mode turn on. I have tried to make a factory reset which is also not possible, which makes me fear that the switch has somehow become defect. This is not a problem for turning them on, but when I push the switch all the way up to initiate Bluetooth nothing happens!
As said, Bluetooth has been working fine until now, and I have had the earphones connected to both my computer and my iPhone. I have tried to remove the H9 device from my Bluetooth devices on both mobile and Mac, but to no avail.
Has anyone else has this kind of issue with Bluetooth simply not wanting to turn on? And also with the issue of factory reset not being possible?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Lasse
Yes. I have tried to fully charge the battery and also to take it out and reinsert it. Actually I have done so several times. I have also tried to turen them on and off continuously to see if that could fix the issue, but it seems that no matter what I do, Bluetooth will not turn on. This is clear because the headphones say No Sound and also do not light the dark blue color it should when Bluetooth is activated.
Any other suggestions?
Hi Lasse
I think I have the same problem as you. When I'm trying to turn bluetooth on, it keeps showing me a pale blue light but not the dark blue I need to pair my headphone to my device. It's only after playing with the bluetooth button for minutes that the dark blue light appears. It's a real bummer. Like you, I can't do a factory reset. Each time I open my headphone, there's only the pale blue light that opens.
And I don't have the « proof of purchase or copy hereof consisting of original invoice or sales slip indicating the date of purchase » that bang and Olufsen ask to have the warranty applied to my headphones!!!!!!!!!! I don't what I have like options left to make them work normally again.
What do you suggest me to do?
Nicolas
Hi Henry438,
I have the same problem as you. Bought my H9 from ebay and do not have the original reciept.
Feels weird to have a bricked pair of high-end headphones just lying around. Any news how to fix them?
Or how to get them repaired?
Best Regards!
I have this issue also. Anyone with a fix for it?
I too have the exact same issue now with my H9s reset won’t work - Bluetooth not working. Sad sad ☹️
Ok - answer was (and is likely to be) simple and mechanical, not electronics. The sliding switch connection is wobbling inside and the slider isn’t going far enough up to initiate the pairing or reset.
The connection to the control switch through the headphone case is via a two pieces of plastic and a tiny rubber grommet which gives a spongy feel when you use the switch. These are REALLY delicate. It looks like they were initially glued with a tiny amount of glue during assembly.
if you unscrew the right casing and operate the switch with a toothpick, everything works fine. Reset and pairing mode etc all good .
This fragile under-built switch connection design is a failure waiting to happen. These are H9s maybe design fixed this in H9i, my old H7s haven’t got this
fault though. very hard indeed to believe that B&O are unaware of this simple mechanical design weakness as being a source of what we are all thinking is a Bluetooth software or electronic issue.
Actually undoing just 4 screws and using a toothpick on the slider will actually represent a semi permanent operational fix for most people so long as you don’t need to re-pair to any other devices afterwards.
I don’t think that it’s possible to repair the tiny delicate components once they are worn or broken. Now I know how delicate they are. I can see that pressing on the slider button when turning on rather than using your nail to slide it would easily break the mechanism.
I can post pics and video links on request if there’s anyone who I can’t get a warranty replacement and who wants to get their expensive phones back to wireless again.
Yes! Can we have the pics and the videos so that we can see how to fix this problem!
Also, do you think we should go to a bang and olufsen store if we don’t have a warranty? To fix it permanently?
thank you for the help!

Here’s a link to YouTube. Finding it extraordinarily difficult and time consuming to upload pics here.
I think a B&O service agent should be first course of action if you have one conveniently close. They may have a quick fix for this.
it would require watchmaker skills - tiny parts.
my point is that it’s not the complex software or electrical problem we’ve been chasing for weeks. It’s much more basic.

Here are some pics to accompany the video https://youtu.be/gjdqEcNNBzA shown elsewhere as I can’t get pics to show in this forum
Thank you! This saved me a lot of $$$.
Incredible by B&O to have such a weak design for such a premium product.

Here are some pics on how I repaired (maybe only temporarily) the faulty switch on the B&O h9.
If you want to make sure to not destroy anything like me, don't use any sort of glue in the system because you'll maybe damage the board if it spills. That's why I used this sort of thick tape do secure the switch in its position. Now I can use those headphones without any problems (yet, you never really know for sure).
Thanks a lot Samir for your help
I was able to to fix the switch malfunctioning in my H7’s today. It required to disassemble tiny switch housing but fix seems to be permanent. I needed to clean all connectors with connectors cleaner, after that I have bend a bit connector arms and metal plate that keeps plastic switch during the move to eliminate wobbling and loose between connectors and at the end I put microscopic amount of glue to secure fragile connector element that moves inside the switch. This proves that this issue can be fixed properly and permanently but required some skills and tools as every of mentioned parts as super small and repair should be made with use of magnifying glass and surgical clamp with battery removed.

I had the exact same problem with a pair of 3 month old H9i. I didn't care to dive into diagnostics apart from trying to recharge and establishing that they did in fact work when wired. Mine were fairly new. I returned them and have yet to hear from the vendor.
Could be interesting to find out how common this issue is.
I'd say problems with that switch are fairly common, it seems to be of so poor quality. I had that switch broken off from my H8, now I have H9i and the switch really seems wobbly and weak. Thinking of calling the B&O in Finland to ask if they can do something about my H8 even though there's no warranty anymore, I think it's really bad for the brand to have such a weak part in your products.
Hello,
I have the same problem, but I don't think it's a switch problem like you suggest. When I push the switch to the uppermost position, it changes from ligth blue to dark blue and vice versa. But I can't do the reset. When I hold the switch up for 10 seconds, no red light blinks like it says in the manual.
When dark blue light is lit, I can see H9 on the list of available bluetooth devices on my phone, but can't initiate pairing. It says, "an app is needed to use this device". Also, I can connect H9 to Beoplay app, check battery status, read serial number and software info, but can't stream music.
On my older tablet, which still has pairing info, I still can use the headphoes via bluetooth.
So it seems like the switch is working, but I cant initiate pairing (LED won't start flashing) and I can't do factory reset. I wasn't using the headphones for longer period, several months. Last time I used them, everything was fine.
To me, i looks more like firmware problem.
I decided to check the switch, although I believed that wasn't the problem in my case. But, it was! You were right, thank you!
They work perfectly now!
Hello!
how did you fix the switch?
thanks in advance!
I fully agree with you but... Of course I have the same issue as everybody here... my waranty period was over by 1 little month... I contacted national after sales service (in France) and claimed for an extension. And guess what.... they refused... No chance to get it repaired either. Only proposal is access to refurbished and guartanteed products.... pretty useless... And I can tell you that I tried hard....
Thank you to those who have posted repair solutions, I will try it...
But I am a bit fead up with this brand... you have the feeling that you are going for premium and you end-up with a Chinese nmade product and a company not recognizing its faults.... Also had some issues in the past with my Beoplay A6....
Hi all,
Interresting update on my side : just one or two days after the previous post, I was contacted by the customer service and they were anouncing that they granted me with an excpetional waranty period extension untill en of February 2021. Is this due to my extreme discontent?...
I did return my H9 to them and after inspection it was declared faulty. They anounced they would send me a new one with a 2 year waranty period going with it.
I did receive the new one. I must temper my previous comment though the switch on the new one remains the same...
At least it is now under waranty for the next two years and after that if it fails I know what I can try to fix it.
Thank you all for sharing your experience.
