Hi folks,
I spent a lot of time out of B&O world since i sold all my vintage gears 4 years ago. I own a Loewe Individual Compose system 52' bought in spring 2010. I plan to upgrade it to something bigger and I was thinking either the Avant 75 or Eclipse 65 could be a nice replacement.
I have read a couple of thread before posting but I wanted to have some feedback from the community. I don't have any other audio compoment to add to the system, so all the great functions of integration does not ring a major bell for me. I have a setopbox from FREE (french ISP that delivers IP TV) that I want to integrate with the TV and a small PC to stream movies. Regarding this point, I bought the media center option from Loewe in 2010, but it was useless as the codecs support was really poor and the update weren't helpfull, that is why I have a dedicated box for that.
Having a Netflix addon directly in the TV could also be great.
If I understand correctly, there was different OS version for the Avant, the latter one being buggy compare to the first one. I was not able to find more info about it, so anything could be helpfull. I notice that the Eclipse runs on WebOS, which is a good news on a reliability point of view, but what about support ?
Thanks in advance,
Cheers,
Serge

I went down this path. This is how I looked at it:
Avant 75
pros: bigger, more mature (LED vs OLED, most bugs fixed (supposedly)), curtains, better integration
cons: heavy (harder to hang on wall), only pivots 15 degrees out from wall, OLED looks better than LED, Android TV, not B&O's strategic direction
Eclipse 65
pros: OLED looks better than LED, sounds better to my ears, lighter (easier to wall mount), pivots way out from wall, WebOS
cons: cutting edge technology (will OLED still look good in 10 years?), no curtains, limited integration
We chose the Eclipse - you buy a TV for picture and sound and we judged the Eclipse to be better than the Avant. Unless you really need a 75 in TV, I'd go with the Eclipse. The LED may be more mature than OLED, but how long before Android TV is annoyingly laggy and in need of an upgrade that will never come (if it works anything like Android on a phone)? I guess a future that relies on 3rd party software (and 3rd party streaming services) will always be a bit of a crap shoot...

Eclipse 65 for me. Avant 75 only if it’s a MK1 (non Android=simple monitor without bugs, linked to a 4K Apple TV for “smart” things) at a very good price.

I would consider the Mk 1 AVANT 75. No buggy android software to be seen in this unit, and in my opinion the picture and sound is still great compared to the NG AVANT and Eclipse. Mk 1 AVANT won't have integrated Netflix but thats easily fixed at low cost with Apple TV or similar device. It also doesn't feature the latest 4K UHD video processing but if that doesn't bother you then not an issue. The Mk 1 software is not the latest and greatest in features and capability but it is very stable and solid.
You will certainly save some $$$ going with a Mk 1 AVANT (good pre-owned units are out there). It's a beast of a TV and I love mine. I would stay well clear of the Android AVANT - Nothing but bad news according to everyone I've spoken to. Eclipse looks very impressive but is still new, unsure of the software status but at least they got rid of Android!
My two cents.
I support the comments made by David.
The Avant-75 (not the 55) mk1 is rock solid with great backlight-tech, and the speaker with its 61 moving parts may not be as punchy as the Eclipse Sound Center - but there is something serene about it when turned off and hidden. The way the speaker drops and unfold synchronized with the curtains offer a very elegant movement. I agree with the picture gurus at Struer: the color reproduction is more accurate compared to the Eclipse, but the Eclipse has flashy colors and a true black that will seduce your eyes.
The Avant-75 mk2 was a cut-cost version that is still troubled by sw bugs - and I'm afraid that the sw task force has moved on to the Eclipse. So, compared to the Avant-75 mk2 I would recommend the Eclipse as the latter will have most, if not all, bugs sorted out this spring.
If you're into big screen sizes you may want to hold your horses till the 77" comes out, but I fear that the pricing will be putting most customers off. Around here, the big electronic shops dropped the price of the Sony, Philips and LG OLEDs with 50% after the holiday season - I guess this will be the case for the 77" OLED, too - but B&O may have their timing wrong and launch their 77" OLED at top $ when the market price for the 77" OLED is cut in half.

I've an Avant mk1 85 which I absolutely adore, but assume the soundbar isn't hideously large on the 'mythical' eclipse 77, that is probably what I'll be 'upgrading' to.
