I've just bought a pair of lab 9s and was told by the seller that they bought them new from B&O Wimbledon Village (now permanently closed, I see..) in 2012. Porkies, thought I, as the serial number began with 22 indicating a manufacture date of 2010...
However, I've been informed from a very reliable source that the speakers were actually sold from B&O to the dealer on the 30/04/2012.....
Were / are B&O in the habit of sitting on stock for 2 years before shipping? Or did they allow dealers to sit on stock and only be paid by the dealer when they were actually sold?
Cheers
Nigel

I know…B&O virus has grown on me !
Esax:Probebly demo ex. They can have them for years and sell them whit full warrenty.
Not quite right as I understand, the date the dealer gets the product the clock starts ticking, B&O used to (don't know about now) allow max of 4 years of warranty from that date, with a maximum of 3 years to the customer.
So if a dealer sold a pair after having them in stock for 2 years then the customer would only receive an official 2 year warranty. The dealer would then be responsible for paying for repairs beyond the 4 year cut off point.
With the models before staying a long time in the range this led to situation whereby it was possible, in theory, for unscrupulous dealers to honour warranties out of time by claiming for repairs from B&O under "newer serial numbers".
This situation would of course be beneficial to customers but not to B&Os bottom line, now with the frequent turnover of products this is no longer the case.
Maybe this could be clarified?

Maybe they were sold to the dealer after B&O had had them on demo, maybe at a reduced price on the understanding that the dealer would sell them ex-demo?
AFAIK no dealers had an arrangement whereby they would pay B&O when the goods were sold to the end user. It was strick 90 days credit for showroom demo stock and 30 days for new stock.
Whether the dealer paid their bill to B&O credit control on time, well that was an entirely different matter back then.......
BTW hope you enjoy the BeoLab 9s they are lovely speakers.
