I  know that I will open a Pandora's box:))

My audio setup consist in :

1 Beosystem 3

1 ( soon to come) Beosound 9000

2 BL 8000 ( fronts)

2 BL 4000 ( centers)

2 BL 6000 ( rears)

My question is if a BL 11 will help this system or should I aim to BL 2?

I am not a fan of action movies so explosions, car chasings, etc doesn't interest me. I am asking only for music and not-so-loud movies ( Sundance, Cannes, Venice, Berlin festival type).

Also, should I conect the BL 2/11 to the subwoofer output of BS 3 and run the 8000's from BL2/11, or let the 8000's in their output socket?

Thank you!

Hi Liviu,

I bought a used Beolab11 in july and I LOVE IT!!! I was also looking for a sub, which would be good for music and I think the Beolab11 is amazing!

My audio/video setup:

BeoVision 8-40

Beolab 3's (Front)

Beolab 4's (Back)

The Beolab11 really gives the sound a boost, without being dominating at all. I tried a Beolab2 for a week together with my current setup, but I wasn't satisfied. The bass was extremely dominating, and even though I tried adjusting the settings, I never found a setting that I liked. I believe the Beolab2 is a good sub, but not together with the Beolab3 speakers.

In my opinion the Beolab11 is very precise in its delivery of the bass and I wouldn't trade it for anything else. It's fantastic for MUSIC, but it also 'packs a punch' for action movies with explosions and so on... I can't find anything bad to say about the sub... I LOVE IT!!!

(I would connect it directly to the BS3)

I agree - if using predominantly for music, the BL11 is the one to go for. I have a BL2 which I use with Pentas and it is too much for music - wonderful for films though!

If your BL8000 are the bass enhanced version accoding to this document (page 7) I would choose BL2. BL2 can be set up in different ways to adapt to the different speaker configurations. I use BL2 together with BL8000 (non bass enhanced) and I am very happy with it.

Hi Liviu,

I tested and ordered a Beolab 11 last week. I will use it in a surround sound setup with Beovision 10-46 as center, front Beolab 6000 and rear Beolab 4000.

Beforehand, I tried a Teufel sub which was between BL 11 and BL 2. It was very well performing, but it was simply too much bass for us (and I don´t need to mention the "different" design Sad). So I tried the BL 11 and it suits very well in the set-up, without dominating. Since our house is Master Linked all over, I run all speakers through the sound management of the BV 10-46 which would be the analog steering unit to your BS 3. I guess the advantage would be that you will be able to set-up and steer the relation of the speakers between each other using the BS 3 menu. I don´t know if this will be possible if connecting the BL 8000 with the BL 11 instead.

One last thing: My dealer told me to use the BL 2, because he perceives the BL 11 too weak for real bass effects. He offered at the same time to test the BL 11 in my home up front ordering it.

I guess that our ways of hearing music and watching TV are close together, not needing crashs too loud in a movie. So I think you probably will like the BL 11 more. But if you have the possibility to test it before buying, you should take the opportunity and test it.

Kind regards,

Rolf

Rolf,

that's what my dealer told me as well: that BL11 is not good for 8000's and that I should go for BL 2. Beside the price I think that I am not looking for "boom", but I "lower" sound.

I should ask for a test with a BL11, because I was told that a BL11 will not be noticed in my setup.

Hfat,

I have 8000's not 8002's and I don't know if it would work.

I loved the Beolab 2 for watching Transformers/Batman type of movies where it was a colossus of bass and destruction, but outside that arena it became a bit of a lumbering badly timed oaf. If you'd ever get to see me dancing.....well you get the messageErm..

The Beolab 11 i now have and use with a 10-46 is very good at complementing the sound, but not dominating it. I would almost suggest you shouldn't buy a 10/11 without one.

Beosound Stage, Beovision 8-40, Beolit 20, Beosound Explore.

I really confirm this.

The BL11 goes right up to 300Hz which is high for a sub-woofer. From experience, the BV10 lacks upper bass and the BL11 clearly helps. The BL2 only goes up to 120Hz so cannot help in this role. The new BV11 uses a three way speaker + bass rather than the two way in the BV10 so should be better in the important upper bass register.
