I am using Spotify connect BeoSound Essence with BeoLab 17.

Over the last month or so nearly every time I use the system it stopped playing and I have to re-connect the beosound in Spotify. Most of the time this occurred at the end of a song.
I have checked the connection status through the beosetup up to ensure that I have a good connection and everything else seems fine.
Occasionally I have to turn the beosound off and on to re-set it as it does not re-connect.

Over the last week Spotify stopped to connect completely and I had to use airplay

Is this a problem with the beosound 1st generation? The software has not updated for a couple of years and I wonder if it is a compatibility issue.

I would be grateful for your advice as it is annoying to have to re-connect every time I want to listen to some music

I doubt the BeoSetup measures the Spotify Bluetooth connectivity or the WiFi from the iDevice to the Essence.

I am not sure if Spotify pulls and broadcasts the track, or hands over a url ... or the url of the playlist.

All of which means it is a complex process fraught with potential dropouts.

I can inly suggest trying various combinations under control situations to try to isolate what’s failing where and when.

My Essence mk 2 has OTA updates ... isn’t that also true of the mk 1 ?

Thanks for your response

The last software update was in 2015 and there are no new software available.

My concern is that spotify updates the software regularly and at some point there will be compatibility issues.

I wonder if others have had the same problem with essence V1.

Also I believe that B&E discontinued making essence and now sales beo core. I don't really want to start thinking on buying a new device as it is not cheap

Hi Nwisni,

I have the same problem with my Essence MK1. Since 1 Week no Spotify connect. Not via IOS, MAcOS or android. I contacted Spotify, but they had no solution. We tried a new account, without success. I did a Reset of the essence, installed the newest apps and so on. I can see the Essence in the Spotify App as Speaker, but cannont switch to it. Spotify Hotline told me, their technicans are in directly contact to B&O. I asked B&O via Email and wait for their answer.

Internet Radio via Tunein is O.K.

Regards

Hello Nwisni

Seems Sarotti and Spotify are saying there is a bug which may be your issue. Di you think both symptoms sound similar ?

I upgraded to the Core and kept my Essence mk 2 for another room.

I risked up Spotify this morning and I had no issues running these combinations:

Spotify Connect - Essence mk 2 - BL6000s+BL11

Spotify Google Cast - Core - BL20s

Spotify AirPlay/ Bluetooth - Essence mk 2 - BL6000s+BL11

I did have issues with this combo when I changed the volume

Spotify AirPlay/ Bluetooth - Core - BL20s

Interestingly I have same issue when I use the new B&O App (across multiple drops)

I had thought the issue was in the App. Now that I have reproduced the same behaviour on Spotify I would say the dropouts may be a Core GoogleCast implementation issue.

More experiments needed !!!

Same problem here. Connecting through netradio works fine. Since about a week no connection through Spotify Connect. Tried disconnecting everything, restarting Essence, reconfiguring network, nothing worked.

Waiting for some developments from Spotify as I believe that is the cause.

Hi,

is there anything new with this issues?

In the meantime i tried several Network settings and so on. In the same Network is a Yamaha RX-V 777. The Connect function works fine there.

I have received an email from B&O support to let me know that they know about the issue and that they are working on a solution.

NO further news unfortunately. Essence connect still not working for me.

I have exactly the same problem for a few weeks now.

Really interested in the announced solution by B & O.

Please keep us informed.

Hello,

I have the same exact situation and I am pissed off both Spotify and Essence MK1 (that was product exchanged last summer). I have experienced so many problems with this setup. As I have Beolab 6's, 12-2's and BL19 and I can only listen radio or youtube, it seems unfair.

Does anyone know whether Essence MK2 is somewhat more stable or is the whole product unfinished and expensive piece of art?

Audiophiling with:

Beosound Core, Beolab 9s, Beolab 12-2s, Beolab 19, Beosound 1+2, Beoplay M3+M5+M5 David Lynch Ed. and Beosound 3000.

Since B&O has brought software development in-house the quality has improved immensely.  I find my Essence Mk II units all work nicely now, which is a very welcome change from a year ago when I was considering selling them all and replacing with cheaper devices.

Current offering is Beosound Core, which I understand to also work well at this point.  Perhaps you can buy one form your dealer with a right to return if it does not perform as expected.

I can't say enough good things about the Multiroom Audio that is available with the Essence Mk II, Core, and other devices.  I love walking room to room and having music wherever I go.  I used to crank up the volume in one room to hear it in the next, but that is no longer necessary.  The results are far more pleasing.

Sources: 2x Beosound Moment • 4x Beosound Essence Mk II
Speakers: 3x Beolab 8000 • 2x Beolab 6000 • 2x Beolab 3 • 3x Beolab 2
Integrated:  1x Beosound 2 • 1x Beosound Level • 4x BeoPlay M5 • 1x BeoPlay A6
Control:  16x* Essence Remote  • 1x Beoremote Halo

* Yes, really! 🤦‍♂️

Hi,

I have Beolab 1, Beolab 2 and Essence MK1... I can connect via Spotify on Iphone, but not via Spotify on my MacBook Pro... The connection does not show in Macbook... The "funny" is if I play Spotify via my iphone, then suddenly I can change numbers on my Macbook, but I can only change the volume on my iphone or Essence Remote.

Before I could play a playlist from my iphone and then leave the house, and my girlfriend could still listen to my playlist... Now this function is gone.

If I buy the new Core, what if it stops working in 2 years, am I supposted to buy another new product and so on ?

Come on guys (B&o/Spotify)

Let´s pray to god, that there will come a solution,

/Kenneth

I have a similar setup with Essence 1, but with MacBook Air (High Sierra). If your Essence, iPhone, and MacBook are on the same network and frequency, Essence should pop up on the MacBook Speakers drop-down menu.

Essence remote is bluetooth, so it will still function. If you are using the BeoApp for Essence 1 and Spotify, it does seem conflict with the MacBook connection in strange ways so I don't use it.

Spotify is gone from B&O since Moment and they went with Deezer so I question they will ever be together again. You can use Spotify Connect between the MacBook and iPhone, but not the Essence. Airplay only, and from only 1 device. I think I got that correct.

It may have to do with your local network setup. I have a similar problem with my Beolit 12 and airplay. It works fine from my iPhone, but not from my Macbook Air. However, when I use a cable connection for both Beolit 12 and Macbook Air it works fine.
