Just back from my dealer after demoing the BL12s. Interesting. Real mixed feelings about the speakers.
They look great on their own. Next to the BV10, on a wall, they make the BV10 look like it was designed in the 90s. Probably because they are very wide and the BV10-40 looks small next to them. Will be much better next to the BV12.
Sound-wise? We watched a couple of Blu-rays (live concert and a movie) and I was disappointed. The speakers in mode 2, on their own, sound very good. But you feel like you're missing sound when there's nothing coming out from the BV10 centre.
In mode 1, with just the BV10 speaker playing the same audio, you realise that the BV10 speakers are very average.
In mode 3, with the BV10 acting as a centre speaker, that doesn't work either. As the tweeters are so close to the BL12s on the wall, the sound appears all over the place.
Again, I think they are going to be more suited to the BV12 with smaller centre speaker. Don't work too well in association with the BV10.
I though they were ok, and definitely aimed at the Beovision 12. As a soon to be an owner of a 10-46 in black I was disappointed to find out they will come in silver(ok the 12 and 10 come in silver) and white!!! What about us black aluminium owners? Needs a sub.
Beosound Stage, Beovision 8-40, Beolit 20, Beosound Explore.
Yes, I agree they are certainly aimed at the BV12. I don't think they work with the BV10 - look odd next to it, plus the sound just isn't right, whatever mode the dealer selected (and he agreed!).
How is the sound in a 5.1 setup moxxey,do you think they can match well with the beovision 8-40
No idea. Didn't test in a 5.1 setup. To be honest, 5.1 doesn't excite me at all - just not that in to movies. Was only looking at the BL12s to see how they compliment the BV10 in terms of style and sound. They don't really meet either of those requirements (for me).
What a pity !
BeoLab 12 seems to be a very "cool" loudspeaker.
Great look, like the association with the BV10 and BV12.
But it's true that a loudspeaker design for the wall could beat a true floor standing one.
But, for a full movie system, with a BV12 and 4 BL12 + a BL2, it could be very sympatic !
Sorry, i would say :

I AM surprised of these early comments.
I have had some fun with them and noticed how fantastic they really sound ! Especially when they are played in a higher volume. Perhaps they need breaking in because the bass seemed a little low inflow volume. But other than that, fantastic!!

My comments were only in conjunction with the BV10, as I said above. Sounded odd, muffled etc. On their own, the sound is good. But why anyone would buy them (for audio) over the BL3s, is beyond me :)
maybe design i think
So I saw the lab 12's at the demo a few months ago and fell in love with them.
They would look perfect in my music room in the alcoves either side of the chimney ***, the bass looks better on the lab 12's than on the lab 3's.
I would love a set as I could mount them so the acoustic lens is right at my head height to get the best volume. My lab 9's sound so good when I sit on the sofa but when standing and dancing you loose some sound and have to turn them up higher.
I did thinka bout lab1's as the bass and tallness is excellent but not sure if they would fit in with my room layout.
Tough tough choices.
Overall lab 12 look and sound excellent int eh shop not sure about my house, I would be happier if I could buy one at a time and buy the other one in a year or so :)

And I wasn't sure about the look in my apartment, hence my BL3 comment. The BL3s to me are small and discreet, but offer superb sound (for their size). I fear I get the BL12 monsters back to my place and they dominate the room. They are big, heavy and wider than you'd expect. Perhaps the audio exceeds the BL3s - I can imagine they offer better bass - but they'd also dominate the room.
Once I get the spare room sorted as an "entertainment" room, perhaps they'll be good in that room. I'll think about that later.
I don't remember them being that big, there is a rumour that there will be 12-1, 12-2 and 12-3 all different sizes.
Wall mounted speakers I think are what I want but need power and volume :)
Maybe the 5000 range

They were heavier and larger than I had expected. Certainly wider. They arrived when I was over at my dealer the other day, so I had chance to lift them up, look around the back, feel the weight etc, before they were going to be wall mounted. They are rather heavy.
Nice speakers though, for sure. I also heard that there will be some kind of floor stand, eventually. I did note that the BL12s have a "free standing" audio switch (which B&O are saying isn't currently in use, but perhaps it could be for an eventual floor stand....).
Trust me they have enough power and volume, heard them today for the first time at my local b&o shop they are incredible, midrange as good as if not better than the 8000s bass around the same as 8000s, but the alt tweeters just sound incredible, much better than the older beolabs.
They are incredible for such thin slithers of aluminium!
Our first pair have just arrived. No impression of the sound yet. But after several weeks of looking at the pictures, I have to say that the un-boxing was jaw-dropping. The ship facing one another (albeit head-to-toe), and to first see them edge-on and realize just how thin they really are. Almost achingly delicate looking. Yes a bit broad but I suspect that properly placed on the wall the overall impression will much lighter. Here in the shop they'll be too close to any of the televisions. I can't wait to see them in a client's home!
We kid because we love.
I just received a mailing today from B&O Sweden. Buy 4 BL12's and get one BL11 free.
In Sweden a pair of BL12 will cost SEK 39 800,-
Offer is valid if you buy other 4 speakers (except BL4, BL4pc and BL4000)
In the folder it reads also that the way the BL12 is designed that they look smaller (in width) than they actually are.

Hey Seanie!
You can't beat the punchiness of the BL1's trust me on that one.
