Beosystem 1

i have noticed quite a few of these for sale on the popular auction site lately!   Are they still relevant?   I have a great masterlink system and would love to be able to have one of these if they were able to connect to just any old tv and if they actually could get me content.   So I am in North America and only have access to over the HD and an android box.   What do you think will this be a good purchase.   I mean they are super cheap.  Any thoughts?

I’ve got one that I’ve hooked up to an old AppleTv, DVD, plasma, and BL4000’s as a spare room setup and it still works well. It’s missing some of the newer bells and whistles, but for occasional use and ML capability linking for music, it does the job.

I think you'll find yourself very frustrated with the BeoSystem 1. It's difficult to find a tv that is compatible other than a BeoVision or a projector. Your tv/projector needs a VGA input.

It only supports 480p or 1080i analog. This rules out a later model Apple TV. Also, some blu-ray players (I've had trouble with some Samsungs) have trouble with it due to the resolution on the main menu of the player.

While not nearly as cheap as a BeoSystem 1, the BeoSystem 3 has been deeply discounted on the second hand market and gives you HDMI inputs and outputs.

After some years with my bs1 connected to a projector and a first gen appletv, I upgraded to a used BS3 bought from a dealer - mainly because I wanted a highend bluray player (Oppo 103). The key limitations are no HDMI connections and no digital tuner for over the air HDTV. You will need an external Digital tuner. You can get bluray by getting a Sony PS3 which has both component and s video out. The BS1 has gorgeous video processing, and can put up an amazing picture on an older TV. The guts of it are the heart of the classic Avant 32” TV. I have kept an avant running by doing a transplant from a BS1. The BS1 also integrates superbly with the DVD1. They are huge and heavy.
