A recent arrival in absolutely beautiful condition but.....
...the platter doesn’t spin so I opened it up and can see that the belt has come off the rim of the platter and the drive wheel. Even with the help of the service manual I cannot remove the platter in order to reattach the belt.
Am I going about this the wrong way – I can see about 30° of the platter looking from the underside but fail to imagine a trick that would allow me to get the belt back on.
Any suggestions?

Hi,
last time I've done this, I used a paper clip to hold the belt in the groove on the platter.
A piece of stiff wire formed as a hook is also a good tool.

Forgive the very basic question but the job is to get the belt around the platter and onto the pulley marked with the yellow arrow – correct?The problem is that the belt has come off the platter and is simply hanging loose. Without being able to hold the belt against the edge of the platter and turn the platter at the same time, I can't see how to get the belt back onto the platter. This is because only a small portion of the groove is exposed - as in your picture.<EDIT> Light-bulb Moment?Are you able to rotate the platter manually with the paperclip attached - Is that the very obvious point I am missing? ;-)Thanks – Alan

That's it.
While the belt is hold in place by the clamp (and by one finger on the smaller pulley) you can rotate the platter in the normal direction and it's done.
