I follow B&O on LinkedIn and got the following in my inbox today:

Would you like to be part of a new audio platform team based in Lyngby, Denmark, responsible for building the Bang & Olufsen audio streaming platform.

https://www.linkedin.com/jobs/view/610131110/

I'm glad to see B&O building their internal development team and really taking responsibility over their software.  The B&O app is improving noticeably on each revision, and my Moment and Essences are finally behaving very nicely on the current Beta firmware.  Six months ago I would have honestly advised against friends buying into a B&O system, but I now think the product justifies the pretty steep price over competitors.

Sources: 2x Beosound Moment • 4x Beosound Essence Mk II
Speakers: 3x Beolab 8000 • 2x Beolab 6000 • 2x Beolab 3 • 3x Beolab 2
Integrated:  1x Beosound 2 • 1x Beosound Level • 4x BeoPlay M5 • 1x BeoPlay A6
Control:  16x* Essence Remote  • 1x Beoremote Halo

* Yes, really! 🤦‍♂️

The interesting thing for me is the fact that they recruitment ad describes the introduction of an impactful new streaming platform.

It is in the DNA of B&O to look for and/or create new solutions - always was.

Don’t expect them to give up!

Maybe they are looking for someone to solve the Spotify Connect issue with Essence and A9. Angry

I fear, that only a change of hardware can solve that problem (with the MK1 versions)....if at all.

This might be possible - although maybe too expensive.

But certainly not a job for the advertised developers!

I would not get too excited. Their current developers are probably quitting to move on to different jobs. Becoming software developer for B&O must be a dead end job. Nothing to be proud of or even mention on your CV. B&O of last few years have earned a reputation of playing catch-up but never actually catching up.

.

Present: BL90, Core, BL6000, CD7000, Beogram 7000, Essence Remote.

Past: BL1, BL2, BL8000, BS9000, BL5, BC2, BS5, BV5, BV4-50, Beosystem 3, BL3, DVD1, Beoremote 4, Moment.

So sour!

The software was admittedly terrible when being done out of house.  But the new work I have seen (which is now being done in-house instead of by contractors) appears to be very good.
