Dear friends!

My saturday question is about remotes. I am thinking about buying either a beo5 or beo6 but I am not completely sure about the differences.

I know the Beo 6 has a screen with the same kind of touch as an iPhone whereas the Beo 5 requires a bit of push. Is this noticable in the exterior? They both have a glass/hard plastic front right?

Is the Beo 6 screen bigger/wider?

What do the wifi help with if I don't have a BeoSound 5 (encore)?

I am about to go for a beo5 but for 1500 sek more I can get a beo6 but if there is no difference to me so why bother pay more?

Can not help with the difference between them but I have a beo5 and it must be my most abused piece of B&O !Fell off the couch (on its own of course) landing in my favorite whiskey glass and smashing it with a good shot of 12 year old Jameson one night :-(  Beyond that It regularly gets sat on and again has a habit of falling. It looks like it has done the wars ! I think I have only dropped one of my beo4's once.

Stay with the Beo4 !

Hello

I beleive the 5 and 6 are very similar with one key exception.... The beo6 has capability of being two way... i.e it will give you information on the screen re sources etc. However, I believe this may only be the case if you have a beosound/master 5.  In other ways I beleive they are the same. If you buy a 5 you can later have it 'upgraded' to a 6 if you have the need to do so.

I also have a beo4... I like them both. the beo 4 doesn't tend to get dropped, that is true.  My cats quite like playing hockey with the beo 5 but its intact and it is lovely to use and hold. Everyone comments on what a cool remote it is.... Those more suspicious ask if its also a webcab.......

Hope thats helpful

David

Sounds like you are living dangerously - or the cats are !

Try posting a picture of them in the act in the Beocat life style thread Smile

You have already stated the differences. Beo6 has a wider screen, iphone like touch and wifi. Beo5 has a smaller screen, squishy touch and no wifi. Right now, if you don't have a Beosound5, then wifi is of no use. I prefer the beo6, but whether it is worth the added cost is only up to you. If you break a beo5, it will turn into a beo6 because they no longer make the beo5 screens - this repair will cost almost as much as a new beo6 so it didn't make sense for me.

Thanks for all the interesting responses! I have no pets (yet) and I think it should be quite safe. The reason for buying it is well - I need a new project to put my spare time into :). And my main TV is a samsung, with a yamaha receiver that has beolabs connected, and my hdmi sources.

I am not sure if it is possible to get everything working nicely with a Beo 5. Perhaps? I would need it to turn on both the TV and the receiver, select correct source on both tv and receiver, and to control different sources.

Perhaps it is just a waste of money? I am about to go and buy one in an hour otherwise. Anyone with experience that can tell me how to do? =)

By the way, I rather have the beo 6 but I think there is a limit to how much I should pay for a remote I dont even know if it will work

I gave up :) The seller didnt include a charger, he wanted 900 SEK for a charger(!) About 60 dollars.

I tried the config tool, which was quite interesting but I found it hard to understand how to program it for other equipment and I will not buy one at this time. I hope they make a new beo 7 that is a bit more logical and that can learn IR codes from the usb-connected remote as the logitech harmonys does it.
