I am looking for a standard FM antenna for either a Beomaster or BeoCenter. If it makes a difference: Beomaster 2400, 4400, 4500, and BeoCenter 9000.

To me they a look exactly the same, but….

Where would be the best place to look?

You mean rabbit ear T antenna?

those are universal (sometime they go for silly money though), but I've bought not long ago originally packed one on eBay quiet cheaply,

if you after proper FM external antenna - radio-shack or similar will do - I'm guilty of doing all that on line and not going out much.

all the best

As far as remember the plugs are different, there is also a problem with the antenna mount on the Beomasters, the newer ones are different to the older ones. I know Jeff want it to be original and there is one on the US bay selling these, never tried.

I use this one, as I have very good reception here, it not original, but easy to hideBig Smile, cable some 20 Cm. long

Hi Søren,

You have me pegged correctly; I like and respect originality, within reason.

Only my Beomaster 2400 has a FM antenna, all the rest operate without an antenna of any kind. As such the FM response is spotty.

Truth is I am (forgive me Canada) sick and tired of the Canadian broadcasting and manage to receive reasonably well the stations from Seattle and Tacoma, Washington. However the quality could be better, hence my new found interest in FM antennas.

I am even trying to make peace with this utter piece of crap Beomaster 4400 I have. It struggles, in particular in bringing in FM signals and top of all its other maladies and peculiarities.

Would you not consider setting up (ye old way) an fm ariel (antenna) on your roof and running co-ax to your equipment ?

It seem that Canada is similar to UK (after digital switch-over) the quality of Radio waves especially in the south isn't great, therefore I was left with no other choice than purchase and install dedicated FM antenna.

This ison top of UFH TV antenna and signal is split to all rooms/ B&O's - by far the best way, not like you want to sell any of yours and need original antennas for each, but that said I have at least 1 of each type. Wink

All the best

Hi Bob,

I purchased a Turk FM antenna from a guy I am well aware of on eBay, who has decent B&O products, but NEVER leaves feedback. Devil We'll see how it does with my Beomaster 2400.

I am also courious to try it with this Super Angry God forsaken Beomaster 4400 of mine. I understand that the 4400 has remarkable FM reception.

Hi Jeff good for you,

good for you - whom cares for feedback anyway - main thing is you can rely ....

b

P.S. cannot say anything about reception of bm 4400 - never heard one

here we don't get much without proper outdoor aerial outside, if you mess with sensitivity you get punished by enormous amount of "white noise"

Hi Bob,

A outside antenna would be a great idea, but I am certain my landlord would NOT be amused if I drilled holes in his walls. This is why I am buying seperate antennas for my Beomasters.

Now that I think about it I could take the antenna off my McIntosh Tuner as the damn thing crooked on me after this last transcontinental move. Everything lights up and looks real pretty, but it doesn't do a thing. I'll bet the folks here at BeoWorld will be delighted to hear that something McIntosh makes broke.

I have here my Beosound 3000, with alligator clip and 20 Cm wire, very good reception, BM 2400 30 Cm wire, good reception, BM 4000, 30 Cm wire, good reception, BM 4400, 20 Cm wire, very good reception.

I get a total of 20-25 senders, the BM 4400 and the Beosound 3000 with wire gives 1 or 2 senders with a background white noise, depending on the weather. With the rabbit ear I have no stations with white noise, rabbit ear not yet tested on BM 4400, but I am sure it is receiving as good as the Beosound 3000. I have an Onkyo receiver there I had extend the wire to 120 Cm and it is still not as good as the BM 4000, 5-6 senders with white noise. We have no none stereo senders here, and all of them triggers the stereo light.

Hello Søren,

The only FM antenna I have is a T-wire that works reasonably well, but I only have the one. I may have a second, but I have to take a look.

I purchased a small black box that reportedly is vastly better than rabbit ears, so we’ll see when it gets here.

The problem I am having is that Victoria lies in a mountainous region and that can play havoc with FM reception.

The other problem is I am frankly bored with Canadian broadcasting and I am receiving FM transmissions from Seattle, Tacoma, and Olympia almost as strong as the closer Canadian stations. However some of these stations are close together and they compete with one another.

OK, now I am REALLY confused!

I found I had an extra FM antenna with a converter for Bang & Olufsen and tried it on my BeoCenter 9000. WOW what a different an antenna makes vis-à-vis no antenna. Now I am bringing in all the Seattle stations clear as a bell.

Then I tried to use it on the Beomaster 4400 and no dice, neither male connector works as the 4400’s FM connection is similar, but too small.

I thought these Beomasters and BeoCenters had a universal connection. I mean the Beomaster 2400, Beomaster 4500, and BeoCenter 9000 are exactly alike. I know because I tried them all.

Am I missing something? Embarrassed

To get a good FM sender the sender antennas and/or their relay stations and the receiving antenna has to be insight of each other, the FM waves do not bounce to the sky like UKW and AM waves, so for you better will be a FM antenna on a high mast, remember to install a good earth connection to protect against thunder flashes (whats the name), do not install the earth wire into a flower potBig Smile

It does, have mine set up in a bay window(triple glaze) on the ground floor with no "antenna'  and have great reception with a tiny piece of white noise.

It is very good to hear that the reputation for excellent FM reception is true. My Beomaster 4400 is also functioning without an antenna, BUT not by choice.

The FM antenna receptor (maybe the wrong term, but where you plug it in) is slightly smaller than the receptor on my Beomaster 2400, 4500, and BeoCenter 9000.

I don’t know if the receptor is supposed to be smaller, or just another malady with this truly unfortunate beast.

The mystery of the FM connection on my Beomaster 4400 is now resolved.

I sent for a kit which came with two B&O adaptors. One fits my Beomaster 2400 and BeoCenter 9000; the other, slightly different adaptor fits the Beomaster 4400 perfectly.

I specifically purchased this kit HOPING that with two adaptors that came with the kit, one of them would fit the Beomaster 4400. Unfortunately this Beomaster is currently retired.

I use the same style ribbon antenna with both my Beomaster 2400 and BeoCenter 9000. The difference is the Beomaster 2400 has mediocre reception WITH the antenna. The BeoCenter had very good reception with NO antenna, but when I plugged in the ribbon antenna to the BeoCenter 9000 the difference in quality was astonishing.

The obvious choice is to try it on the Beomaster 2400 and see if it improves the reception. Still I wonder what it might do with the BeoCenter 9000. Either way I am sure this will be positive.

The Terk FM antenna is described as being clearly superior to the rabbit ear antenna provided by Bang & Olufsen or other “outdated” antennas. IT ISN’T.

I tried the new Terk antenna on my BeoCenter 9000 and Beomaster 2400 with identical results, as compared to the old fashioned T-type ribbon antenna.

In both cases the T-type antenna had better reception, not a great deal better, but beyond question.

If a supplier is going to advertise a superior product, it should be, and the Terk antenna isn’t. No - thumbs down
