Hi,
Ive recently gone over to Google Home and I have it set up to play music to all my speakers through the Chromecast feature. The issue im having is that at random periods of time, the music will just stop. According to the Google Home app, the music is still playing, but it is just not playing out of the speakers anymore. It happens when I cast from a mobile app too. I have to recast or ask Google to play my music again. It's very weird.
Does anyone know a solution to this please?
Thank you for any help offered.
Take care,
David
I am having difficulties with the Core's volume - I think it is related to Chromecast. When I adjust the volume under Dezzer, it flips to ChromsCast, the track goes silent, and I have to press Dezzer again, which takes me back to the default sound !Same behaviour when I try to use the App increase the volume of the Core when it is playing via the BLC the CD player on the BeoSound 4.I thought it might have been cased by the Google Home Mini having the Core as a default speaker - but it was not that.I have tried resetting the Core so I can redefine things without enabling ChromeCast - but using a toothpick in the reset hole under the core for 5 seconds does not seem to do it.What is the correct factory settings reset procedure ?It does not appear in FAQs, help centre, nor the online manual.

Hi, recently I was referring to this in the following Spotify thread: https://archivedforum2.beoworld.org/forums/p/29590/237525.aspx#237525
Ulrike: Hmmm, not quite sure about fancy volume. How fancy it is depends on the better or worse Chromecast implementation into an app's software, and it seems Spotify has to deal with various issues related to this: https://community.spotify.com/t5/forums/v3_1/forumtopicpage/board-id/spotifyandroid/thread-id/74980/page/5 I am a Qobuz subscriber for years, using GCC Lossless and Hi Res Multiroom every day and it works perfectly now. But I remember those earlier days with Qobuz when it was a real pain! Always disconnecting => no volume control and no ability to change tracks, no way to stop the stream going on and on ... so rebooting my phone, reconnecting GCC, playing for 10 minutes ... DISCONNECTING AGAIN! ... same procedure going on .. No fun! So in case you're getting issues with Spotify or others like Tidal and Deezer this workaround may help: In order to prevent disconnections you need to keep the CPU of your device running when the screen's turned off. If the device changes to "sleep mode" GCC disconnects. This feature should be implemented into the software of your streaming client. But if not done or not done correctly it can drive you crazy. Some phone's OS or IOS settings give permission to that, no "sleep mode", keep "CPU running". If there is no way to enable this in the phone's settings you will have to use an additional application like Backlight Manager, Screen On or others. And hope for your streaming service getting able soon to fix it. Good luck anyway!

elephant,
I neither have Deezer nor Spoitify but tried it with different Apps, Qobuz, two different radio players, Google music:
Works flawlessly.
???
Two possible reasons I can imagine:
1.
Don't know Deezer, is there a volume controll via Deezer app?
Never use the buttons on your phone, this works for Bluetooth.
You may as well use volume controls in Google home, I send you some screenshots of those various volume controls I am using.
2.
In case you have been doing it all in the right way, this must be an issue with Deezer software.
You may try another Chromecast app:
Does it work?
If it does, it's Deezer.
Like I said before, having no problems here with various apps?
I think "unreliable" is a feature of Chromecast. I've been using a Chromecast audio connected to my BS9000 for a couple years, and its always been "fiddly". Music stops for no reason and will not start until I reboot my phone. Spotify user interface drifts from actual music and loses connection so volume cannot be adjusted or cannot skip forward/back. I cannot Chromecast Deezer from my Android phone, only an iPhone shows the "Chromecast" icon (I've run through all the troubleshooting I can find on the web for this one - it appears to be a common problem - not just with Deezer, but with many Chromecast apps). Casting to "groups" is always "iffy". It usually eventually works, but how many devices do I need to reset or applications restarted?
For whatever reason, Google gets away with fiddly software. When I first moved to Android, I was amazed at how crappy it was at basic phone functions (email, texting, phone calls) relative to my blackberry and iphone. I asked my co-workers if they experienced similar problems, and they just shrugged "yeah, that's android".
It reminds me of the culture shock I experienced when starting to deal with Windows back in the 90s (coming from Unix). The solution to so many problems was to "reboot the computer". It even infected the application developers - I worked at a major windows software company where the pat response to any bad design/memory leak/resource contention was "reboot". Meanwhile, we had Unix machines running for years without rebooting, nor did I ever meet a Unix developer who thought "rebooting" was a valid problem fix.

I have the samme issue(s) as elephant describes, and have narrowed it down to the following: whenever someone in the household chrome cast some thing to our BS1/2/Essence mk2 and I later activate the product either via the app (Deezer) or just tapping the product or Essence remote music will play, but once I touch the volume control the sound is muted/stopped. Very annoying, as the only way to solve it seems to be a factory reset - that only works till another teenager activates chrome cast.

Sadly another B&O software issue, know it. Never happens with Chromecast dongles, having a group of 6 speakers. Just B&O speakers are not playing. Others work well. That's a shame.
For me this helps:
Disconnect B&O devices from power supply, reconnect them and it works.
Good luck.
Thanks, Ulrike - but I left the Essence mk2 and the BS2 unplugged (the BS1 and its battery makes it difficult to remove power completely) all night, to little use: problem is still there: once you touch the volume control, the sound is muted - after I while I will get some random radio stuff playing.
@elephant: Do a factory reset via the app. It's sad, I guess, when I appreciate that they have improved the factory reset so that I do not need to enter Deezer and TuneIn log-in credentials every time...
B&O and Google have their software issues... Maybe Apple Music and a couple of HomePod's aren't so bad after all
I'm glad I don't work at B&O's customer support these days
Hi guys,
I assume my problems, as described above, are linked to this issue. I can also recreate the problem with turning the volume up and it switching over to Chromecast with no audio. I don't have a core and this issue happens. There is obviously a bug in the system, because I don't get any artwork either when using the B&O app. To get somewhere with my music, ive turned off all Chromecast and now I can control the volume using the onscreen controls from the app, but this doesnt resolve this original issues I was having as I want to play my music through Google Home.

Hi Guys
I tried on my side with a PC with Google Chrome (to be able to cast from Deezer website), an Essence remote, an iPhone with the last version of the B&O app and a BS35 (last firmware 1.16.20033.79151407).
I'm just unable to reproduce any single issue you described !
May it be related to the Google Home specificaly ?
No. Computer programming software is different. Seems to be the app.
Hiort: David: because I don't get any artwork either when using the B&O app That is a separate issue with the app. B&O have confirmed this as Deezer related but they are on the case.

Just took some time for looking at Deezer Community. There you can read about it, folks writing (from a month ago):
***I can cast to a chromecast audio no problem, however I get the same issue one either my phone or iPad.
Play 'flow', all good no issue with the music, but the deezer app looses sight of whats playing, can't skip tracks, then the app totally has no idea whats playing, so open deezer again, the original stream is still playing and the app now wants to start a second stream to the local speaker, totally different from what is still playing to the chromecast.***
***I have been using Tidal HiFi and Google Play Music and decided to try out Deezer to see how it compares. My main method of streaming is via Chromecast Audio, using toslink cables to connect to external DACs and various other HiFi gear around the house (over a dozen Chromecast devices on the same 2.4/5GHz networks). The reason i mention this is because both Tidal and Google Play Music have worked flawlessly when it comes to casting. However, the Deezer app has not even given me the option to cast since day one! (The cast icon won't even appear in the app). Deezer support was very unhelpful: their only suggestion was to make sure that my phone was connected to the same Wi-Fi network as the Chromecast devices and not to my mobile/GSM network. Really Deezer? You didn't think an experienced Chromecast user would know that already? Anyways, back to the original issue - I don't think Deezer supports Chromecast Audio at all from where I'm sitting and not sure I'm ever gong to try them out again based on their poor customer support. Sorry Deezer, you'll have to do a lot better than this to gain and keep paying customers that need Chromecast support.***

Just checked it again today:
Everything's playing flawlessly here with Chromecast:
Qobuz, Tunein, some other radio players, G music, no problem.
@Ulrike - are you using Google Home to access/distribute music?
Late last night I heard the familiar ding-dong-sound from all our wireless speakers, usually indicating that there was a software update - but didn't have the time to test it out as I couldn't be bothered with a new round of factory resetting every product. Anyone using Google Home in their setup that have tested it today?
XXxx
Roger,
yes, I need Chromecast for streaming Qobuz, which I appreciate a lot. And if I want to include B&O speakers into a multiroom group, GCC is the only way to do it.
Mostly I am using Qobuz controls for adjusting volume, because it's easier.
But Google Home also works perfectly.
Just tried it again, send you some screenshots.
Hi Ulrike,
How are you finding the Beosound 2?
I disabled all my Chromecast features on my speakers for now, because of the issues. I have been using Google Music and Deezer, but neither cast without them eventually stopping for some unknown reason. That also happens when using Google Home too. So the only reliable way I can play music at the moment is through the B&O app using Deezer.
If there has been an update overnight let me know and ill try out GCC again.
David,
that's strange since we both have the same speakers ...
I'm quite happy with the BS2, thanks again
Just thinking about those issues of yours I do not understand:
Could it be your router? Just a thought?
Having such! a small bandwith here I've changed my router and now all works perfectly, even streaming Hi Res.
Send you some pics, look at the small bandwith here!
But then look at the router's enormous wireless network throughput ...
This (gaming) router also has a fine app. So easy to make adjustments with just one tap.
Strange.
Have you tried another app with Chromecast? Just tested Tunein, works flawlessly here.
However, David, I do hope all those issues will be fixed soon
Z
Hey,
Thanks for the suggestion. It definitely isn't the router, because I have a brand new one and have all items on fixed IP addresses with highest priority on the network. Following your previous suggestion in another post of mine, I have all speakers connected to the network via ethernet too. So there is no reason that I cannot cast indefinitely from my Google Home. I have tried casting from other apps and after a period of time they all just stop. I just assume there is something wrong with the actual casting, because of this.
Ill probably stick with doing Deezer HiFi by the app for now until Deezer comes out on Google Home, because that's coming soon. Either that or go back to Google Music and casting from Google Home, just putting up with the music randomly stopping.
Thanks for your kind assistance anyway.
Well, what can I say
Always love a good riddle?
All that remains so far I can imagine, have you checked:
https://www.networkworld.com/article/2164359/mobile-apps/four-tools-for-checking-bandwidth.html
David, and others, something else to the riddle. Wondering about the fact that I am not affected by those issues, I recalled: There was a thing called KRACK vulnerability last year in October. This means: https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/security/list-of-firmware-and-driver-updates-for-krack-wpa2-vulnerability/ I always disable automatic firmware updates for whatever devices. Because I want to know first what it is I'm updating. In this case I decided not to update my router. I have been looking at Asus router forums and found so many issues related to this, that therefore I decided not to update my router. Because for me it's not necessary. To get access to my Wi-Fi, a person has to stand in front of my house, in my garden. I live in a large property. David, I don't know which router you're using. You can try to go back to your router's firmware before October last year. This may solve the riddle. I hope so. A new and expensive router is worth nothing if it's firmware doesn't correspond with its client's firmware. In this case B&O and Deezer's. Google Home? I don't know. My router's firmware is firmware before October. And I'm not going to update It unless I find no more issues, maybe related to this. Ulrike
I don't know an answer to the riddle yet, but I don't think it's the router, because this is my third router in 6 months. If you remember I changed them when trying to get my speakers to stay connected to the network (before ethernet). I have the latest firmware, because I didn't own this router until January. So, there is no way of having firmware before October 2017.
It is a frustrating set of issues this, but we will get there in solving it.
Thanks for the suggestion again.

so... :)
have you checked your router's Cast compatibility?
Here's a list (GCC support with workarounds. Btw, I called them once on the phone, not being able to solve my problem, and they helped me out):
https://support.google.com/chromecast/table/6207416?visit_id=1-636568861250302608-3074794631&hl=en&rd=1
You also may call the support, recommended:
https://support.google.com/chromecast/answer/6025971?hl=en-CA
Maybe...
Thank you for trying to help me resolve this. I looked at that list and my router doesn't appear on there. Though I have a Nighthawk my particular model doesn't appear. Besides the workaround isn't relevant, because the Chromecast I have is connected to the router and all the speakers are ethernet connected.
If it comes to it ill call support as you suggest. For now, ill see if things improve or if Google/B&O/Deezer release an update.
Thanks again buddy.
