For reasons passing understanding I found myself comparing the sound quality of my Beomaster 2400 and the BeoCenter 9000, which is based on the Beomaster 3300.

With a decade between the two I fully expected to be able to tell the difference between them, but the sound is virtually the same. That surprised me. Same record, different turntable (Beogram 4002 ‘vs. Beogram 4004) yet the sound quality was surprisingly similar.   Embarrassed

Now sure we are comparing apples and oranges as the Beomaster 2400 is mated with S-45 speakers and the BeoCenter 9000 has its S-75 speakers. As such the Beomaster 2400 and its S-45’s are a bit more bassy and the upper end is not as interesting as the BeoCenter 9000/S-75 combo, but essentially they sound remarkably alike. Is this what is to be expected?  Confused

Blindfolded I could absolutely tell the difference between the Beomaster 4500, even in its compromised condition and Beomaster 2400/BeoCenter 9000. Ditto the Beomaster 4400 (For different reasons).

Is this surprising or expected?

There is no way to compare the different models, BMs or Beovox, if not refurbished up to date, and as I understand it, yours are not. I have a pair of S45s 83 model, I have these connected to a BM 2400, but as the S45s lacks a little in the highs I connected to the 2nd output a pair of Beovox 1600, mounted on wall, and that does it, clearer highs, the bass is ok for me adjusted to neutral, if I connect the same speakers to my BM 4000, I find this combination more detailed to listen to, but not as pleasant, I can listen to the BM 2400 without getting tired of it for hours, with the 4000 its ok for detailed listening, clasical, or very loud rock, but not for background music, easy listening for hours. You cant compare, you just have to choose what you want to listen to, and make your pick.

Collecting Vintage B&O is not a hobby, its a lifestyle.

Hi Søren,

Only my McIntosh 2255 has been refurbished, all the rest are in various states of disrepair.

It is just that I was struck by the generous bass with both amplifiers and the general modest treble. They really do sound alike.

I also wasespecially  surprised by the huge amount of bass from the Beomaster 2400 and its puny S-45 speakers. Each time I turn it on, I am taken back.
