Hope you experts can help!

I have purchased a new LG TV and I would like to connect my Beolab 4000’s to it.

Unfortunately, the only sound out on the TV is a coaxial output (no RCA and no 3.5mm jack)! As such, I have purchased a coaxial to analog converter. I have connected this to the RCA and set the speaker to Link.

Good news is that this setup is giving me sound, but bad news is that I can’t control the volume......and the volume is very loud. Even when I turn volume on TV off, the sound is unchanged. I have tried different settings on the TV, but I can’t seem to find a way to turn the volume down. I assume this issue has to do with the amplifier in the speaker, but how do I control the speaker? I have a Beo4 remote, but can’t figure out how to connect it to the Beolab 4000? Hope someone has some ideas or a solution.

Thanks a bunch!

Did you check if you can adjust volume control for the digital out in the TV setup? I suppose it is not possible, but have a look.

Another approach can be using the headphone socket and a cable like this one:

Hi Ralf,

Thanks for your response.

Unfortunately the TV does not have an option of adjusting the coax volume.

Also, unfortunately the TV does not have a headphone socket.

Best regards,

Karsten

Maybe beoplay hub is good for this?

Hi VanQ,

Welcome to Beoworld!  Inferno82 is correct, the Beoplay S8 Connection Hub (£149 GBP from your local B&O store) is ideal in this situation, as it converts the TV optical output to analogue audio and gives you volume control of the speakers via the TV remote.  Please click on my sponsor link below if you would like any help with cabling to get the Hub working with your TV and speakers.

Hi Ralf,

Thanks for your suggestion regarding using Beolab 4000 speakers with TVs that have a headphone socket fitted.  To expand on this option, please note that there are two versions of Beolab 4000 speaker, each version needs a different cable:-

If your Beolab 4000 speakers are the mk.1 versions (up to 2007, Serial no. 1xxxx), you need this cable to connect two speakers to the headphone socket of your TV:-

https://soundsheavenly.com/line-in-connection/minijack-to-beolab-line-in-using-phono-rca-sockets-one-cable-for-two-speakers

If your Beolab 4000 speakers are the mk.2 versions (Serial no. 2xxxx onwards, from late 2007), you need this cable instead to connect two speakers to the headphone socket of your TV:-

https://soundsheavenly.com/line-in-connection/minijack-to-beolab-line-in-using-powerlink-sockets-one-cable-for-two-speakers

For either version of speakers, you will need to set both speakers to "Line" mode using the small switch on the back panel.

Kind regards, Steve.

Steve.

Hi Inferno82,

You just need a shielded RJ45 Powerlink cable for a Beoplay S8 with two satellite speakers to be used with an Avant NG TV:-

Thanks Inferno82,

Didn’t know about the Beoplay Hub - looks pretty cool.

I managed to find a different solution that seems to work as well for me. I had an old Airport Express that I could connect the Beolab 4000 to through the Airport’s 3.5mm jack (sound output). In my settings for my AppleTV I have set sound to come from the Airport Express. This works since I only watch TV through my Apple TV. If this changes, I will probably get a Beoplay hub.

Thanks again for your help.
