Dion: I guess that posses another question (for here and the podcast perhaps) - Because of the the speaker positions that I have to work with, is it a waste to install all four Beolab14 satellites? Is installing two at position 5 OR 6 really all I need? I should also mention that I could install one satellite above the tv in the Centre Front Height position, but from everything I have heard/read it didn't seem that this would be a well utilised channel (just pulling the centre channel higher up) when the Harmony sound centre is so capable? Plus I only have four satellites in total to work with. Dion.

(Assuming that you want to keep the 18’s at the back as in the drawing) - If only two 14-satelites, I’d go for the number 5’s as Surround Heights.
However, if you can easily install all four, both sets assigned as Surround Heights surely would not be bad....maybe setting the output level of the 6’ a bit lower than the 5’s.
In that case there would be more to ‘play with’ :-)
P.S. Do remember that the bas management is extremely important for a setup like this - I am sure the guys can give you some hints in the podcast.

Hi Michael and Willie!
I have literally just finished watching the episode. Thanks for all the excellent discussion I really enjoyed it. You have given me plenty to think about!
A couple of comments –
- I won’t be able to move any of the 14s to floor stands or to the walls (my other half would never approve ).
- The floors are solid concrete and the ceilings aren’t changing so I’m a little restricted in where I can run cables.
- I am now looking at the technical sound guide to move the speakers slightly to better align with the “ideal” locations and the suggestions you guys have given me.
- Still not sure if I’ll stick with 2 or 4 on the ceiling. I may wait until the Harmony arrives and use temporary stands to test positions and roles.
- I’m very intrigued with the idea of putting the 4 14s in a line along the back so that 2 end up over the dining table…but I think Willie is right and the sub is too far away…
I will definitely report back over the next couple of months as the project progresses and on the final layout I pick (as long as I don't get killed by one of our deadly aussie animals in the meantime )
Let me know if you have any questions, and again, thanks for all the info,
BeoVision Harmony77 G1 with BeoLab18 x 4 & BeoLab14 4.1 (7.1.4); BeoPlayA9 Mk4; BeoSound2; BeoSound1 x 2; BeoPlayH95; BeoPlayE6; BeoPlayH3 ANC
..and it all started 20 years ago with a pair of B&O A8 Earphones...
Now that's an awesome idea. Cable runs may be the limiting factor, but I'm going to look into this!
By the way, I just finished watching the episode for a second time - so many ideas to think about. Thanks so much! I cant wait to send you the progress and final install shots.
Many thanks,

Morning Mikey
Listened to the podcast this morning on my Monday commute.
I have two questions one would be about how Willie overcome the ground loop issue on one of his clients houses as my new house it terrible and I cannot for the life of me work out what appliance might be causing it or if its just a general issue with wiring etc.
the second one is the thing Henrik said about using Bli without a pro license and having an intermediate app that can help intergrate everything.
I am going to look at Ikea curtain tracks today and wonder what the hack is that he said about to work with Bli and if they work with homecontrol.
Great podcast!

I guess you'll know for sure once Henrik posts the video with Rune, but IIRC the overall method was to use "hass.io" website (now renamed "www.home-assistant.io") for any complex logic/actions, plus control of a whole bunch of external device brands including IKEA Trådfri Gateway -- then use the BLI/Gateway *without* the Pro subscription, only to do simple triggers, to hass.io devices. (If you listen again, now knowing that's what it is called, you'll be able to parse what he is saying.) There may be some additional hacking needed to drive the IKEA shades, because the basic IKEA integration talks about lighting, no mention of the "covers." device type which controls blinds (& garage doors, etc.).
It’s time for you to learn..

Hello there
thanks for this, this is exactly what I mean, I am interested in the ikea blinds shame they don’t do a curtain track.I find it hard to work out on the ikea website if they are length and drop or drop then length on the site but these blinds if can be added to Bli would be great but actually just in apple home control would be great.
What do you mean you can use without Pro?
Really interested in all of this to be honest.
as for the grounding issue it’s driving me nuts as if I take my system to another house it stops, something weird with the earth connection.

Hi Sean,
Spoke to Willie on Twitch tonight, he asked if you nicked a power cable somewhere and or if your wall studs are metal or wood?
He sometimes fixes it by making a wood ''plate'' to go in to studs and then hang the speaker in the middle on the plate thingy. But he suspects you possibly nicked an electrical cable somewhere or the builders did that when building obviously.
Just in case you want to watch this nights talk: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/950625574
Mikipidia:Obviously you speak Danish
mr_anders_son:I pilot my ikea blinds with beoremote one and Halo via Google Home and my Beosound 1 GVA!
Maybe a silly question, but do you realy use BT with a BS1? or is it more being imposed on by google? You could also set it up as a AirPlay speaker if you wanted to and then you don't have to go trough google at all. it'll just be an airplay end point and all the ''smart'' stuff is gone.
Alas, the smart-stuff isn't all gone. Yes, I set it up as an AirPlay2 speaker, and can use its built-in web server for *some* configuratiion, but: (a) it still shouts that the microphone is muted every time it powers up; and (b) without the B&O App allowing access, you cannot just walk up and press the top to play anything. Why/how? In AirPlay2, once the speaker sleeps for <some time, 10? 30?sec> you cannot "continue from pause", it's just disconnected until the host tells it to play. And without the B&O App, you cannot get to the music on a server; DLNA is the only way to get press-the-top-button to play.
I get it, not optimal, can totally correlate as I have no units with gva in my home for a reason The NY edition is just so pretty...
[Edit: Nevermind. Not a topic worthy of wasting time on the podcast.]
Heh. I thought so too, which is why I ventured to place the order for the last of the NYed despite not knowing how/whether GVA could be avoided. But my wife called it "vulgar"! WAF was already low for a headless Dalek in the bathroom. (By the way, NYed and Piano Black are the colors with the highest contrast between the etched brand name logo and the finish; Natural & Anthracite are much nicer. But I had my ultra-thin Sharpie prepared to "fix" that.)
Something for your podcastian who has done installations: My last sentence above was conjecture based only upon personal experience... But... Maybe... Is DLNA sufficiently highly-specified that *control* of the "puller"-of-tracks from the server is standardized? IOW, is there some generic DLNA remote control app that will view the server's library and then *tell* the BS1 to fill its queue with DLNA requests? If I could run the BeoSound GVA entirely without the B&O App, that might be enough to keep it.
